A Little Welcome and Some Advice to All People About to Try Darkfall

KasmosKasmos Member UncommonPosts: 593

First of all, I welcome all of you about to take the plunge and enter the world of Agon, you're in for one HELL of a ride.

I recommend watching these four videos before entering Agon for your first time. It would be something good to watch as you pass the time while downloading the client and will get you prepared for what you need to do when you enter the game.

Darkfall Accelerated Character Development Guide: Part 1

Darkfall Accelerated Character Development Guide: Part 2

Darkfall Accelerated Character Development Guide: Part 3

Darkfall Accelerated Character Development Guide: Part 4

Also, there are a few written guides on the official Darkfall forums that would be worth reading as well.

Besides that, make sure that you do the following:

1) BANK OFTEN - If you think for a second, "Maybe I'll just kill ONE more goblin" or "Maybe I'll just harvest ONE more node", it's time for you to go bank. You WILL lose all the items on you and in your bag many times your first few days in Darkfall, but if you're smart, you'll be able to keep most of them and your losses won't be extremely detrimental.

2) BE CAUTIOUS OF EVERYONE - Just because someone is blue, doesn't mean they won't backstab you and take all of your items when you're not looking. Be careful of everyone, and use your wits about who you can trust and can't. It's best to find a good guild that you can work with, but if you want to go solo for a while before you do so, just be careful of who you group with or who you farm close to.

3) GET STARTER QUESTS / TITLE 1 QUESTS - Get your starter quests in your starter town and complete those to help get acclimated to the game and also to get a little bit of resources. Afterward, go to your capital city and get your title 1 quests to help you train up some skills and, get money and resources, and get your titles (which gives stat bonuses).

Anyway, I happily welcome all of you about to try the game for the first time to Darkfall and I hope you enjoy your stay. Trust me, I think MANY of you are going to be very pleasantly surprised at how much fun this game really is, and why so many of us, like myself, are die-hard supporters of this game.

    agreed with post above.

The only thing I disagreed with on that video is to focus on just one elemental magic school. I think it depends on what kind of mage focus you want to have. If you want to be a buffer one might want to look at all the schools. but granted, starting out one school will be cheaper

Those guides are invaluable IMHO. Darkfall is not a care bear game so make sure you read up (and watch) a little before you jump in so you're prepared.

For those taking advantage of this $1 offer, get ready to be surprised at how fun this game is.

    It is a carebear FPS.

Darkfall is a care bear FPS? Are you joking or trolling?

Actually it is. I have seen a established clan do nothing but exploit going grey and towers to grief new players in starter towns. Thats as care bear as it gets. Even Hello Kitty is more hardcore then that. There is two games in DFO, clans/alliances with holdings, and everyone else.

The one everyone keeps babbling about in respect to DFO's eliteness is the latter. Many new players do not make it to that stage becuase of rampant asshattery and carebearness of some of the vets/clans in this game. There is absolutely nothing hardcore, or elite about that. Its about as terrible as a game can be in that context.

As a example, a new player last night in alliance chat said he was quitting, when asked why, he stated one of his own clanmates knowing he was about to turn in the "Thoughtful" quest left clan, joined another with a war dec on the ex clan, and ambushed his ex clan mate to loot him of 1000 mats he toiled to get for this quest. This is what will keep DFO a niche asshattery game. Simple really.

As a aside to this, a number of people including myself offered to help him get back on his feet again, he politely refused, and stated that event was a revelation to him, and this he couldnt justify to himself a desire to continue playing the game. I am beginning to agree with his outlook, there is a good core game here, but war dec, alignment, grey provoking, tower exploiting, head jumping, and other insane behaviour like suicide attacking just to grief renders this game down to a smelly pile. IF AV fails to address these issues this game will frankly disappear.

Just one persons opinion, but I very much doubt I will ever pay to resub this game. DAOC did RVR right, AV fell on its posterior in respect to creating a enviorment that fosters pvp and sieges, frankly they should have called it Anarchy Online, wait..that name was already taken.

What does that have to do with DF being care bear or FPS? Nice story and all but Darkfall is neither.

That sounds pretty hardcore how much he went out of his way to ruin someones day. It doesn't take that long to get any of those mats.

Out of all that, the only thing i think they should address is the WarDec.  Other than that, play smart and you'll be fine.

Maybe this guy should be smart about his placement, banking times, and he should always have a friend near him.  Watch your back, stay near cities, bank often, grab a buddy, and stay aware.  Keep those rules close to you and you WILL survive and succeed at gathering or killing mobs.  This only happens if you are unaware and have your guard down.  Trust me you will die.  Do not be discouraged to ask people the trade channel or the race alliance channel for some help.  They will try their hardest to help you and get you on your feet.  Of course you have your occasional asshole who likes to put you down.  Yet, the nice players will get you strong, and one day you will see that ass again, and there are no rules, you can kill him.  Just some tips/things that can happen.

Have fun and do not be discouraged if you die! :)

So, some dude was stupid enough to announce the fact that he would be at a certain place, at a certain time, LOADED with mats.....got rolled for it, and /ragequit??

    LOL....what a dumbass.

By the way...how is this guy's stupidity AV's fault?? You want them to nerf the shit out of the game to protect morons??

Not gonna happen. Get hard, get mean, or get rolled.

I've been wanting to try this game for ages but have been reluctant to pony up the cash for the full game without having a chance to try it first.

Thanks for the guide and info. Looking forward to what looks like an EverQuest Sullon Zek style game again at last.

Any feedback on how helpful this information is?  Wish i had looked around before i started for this type of info!  Nice of the OP to put it all in one place for the new guys

    Exactly.

Announcing that you are loaded with stuff and then letting people know your location is the exact opposite of common sense in a game of this nature. If that player had bothered to be cautious he would more than likely have made it to a bank with his loot.

Stupidity is not something the developers have any control over and I have no sympathy for players who are not wise enough to realize that this game is dog eat dog. Watch your six at all times.

I've only been involved in two alliances since launch and my clanmates are like family. The fact that the player mentioned involved himself with some less than trustworthy individuals and then in turn ended up getting rolled and looted because of it is really no surprise at all.

There were options he could have utilized to prevent such a situation from occurring, he chose not to, and faced the consequences for his choice.

Yeah, prolly not the smartest move.  Gotta be careful who you tell what.  Generally, just remembering that its a dog eat dog world will keep you safe.

Yeah, prolly not the smartest move.  Gotta be careful who you tell what.  Generally, just remembering that its a dog eat dog world will keep you safe.

Y'know what's sad? This guy would probably tell his "buddy" in his corporate workplace that he was heading over to the bank to deposit 50 grand in cash and would be walking through a back alley on the way. I know what I'd do.
