What a joke. They are going to charge me $1 to TRY their game. No thank you. More then likely they will also sell my account information to everyone for money as well. Again, no thank you. There is just something about "scam" written all over the so-called "offer".
Well contrary to you I look forward to this opportunity.
My view is on the $1 thing is to limit the hackers/gold sellers accounts, sound fair enough.
Anyway some people will never be happy whatever you give to them.
When other niche, "impact pvp" MMOs are offering 14 days for free (EVE Online), I see no justification for Darkfall to charge any amount of money. It looks petty and cheap on their part, not mine. I'll pass, thanks.
Some of the biggest arguments from players defending the charge really has me perplexed. Especially the big ones below:
Well, they need to make sure players aren't abusing the game by spamming or trying to sell gold.
Right, because they can't simply add restrictions to your character's communication like the majority of trials?
People will use their accounts to create an army of newbies and just grief everyone.
Even if someone did that, I hardly think that they could do anything other than be cannon fodder. Also, Darkfall released a newbie protection plan that lets players become immune to attack a few hours with their first character. Not only is this idea just plain improbable, it's ignorant to assume a group of people would abuse the free trial to cause pandemonium.
It's just $1. Does nobody have a job or something?
If you're asking people to pay for something then it isn't a trial. It's a service. The difference between a trial and a service is a trial does not require you to make any commitment on your part to participate in it. I don't care if I can buy a soda from a soda machine for $1 and get less use out of it. I know when I go to a soda machine I'm paying for a service. When I sign up for a trial, not only do I have to give them my credit card info, but I have to pay them! That's like asking for your social security number for a free sample at a grocery store.
It's to prevent people from ruining the economy by creating many characters, selling the items, and pocketing the gold.
Because Darkfall is a skilled based game, I highly doubt anyone will be able to earn the skills necessary to actually influence the economy at such a grand scale.
This "Trial" has no restrictions. It makes sense for them to ask you to pay something.
So split it up into a restricted service and a paid service. One is free and one costs money. This current plan is just ridiculous. This current strategy just looks like a poor way to earn money from people on the fence. Generally, people who enter trials don't last the entire trial period. They eventually give up, but there's nothing lost because they didn't pay for it. Here, a character who pays for the trial feels obligated to play for 7-days to get his "Money's worth" even if he/she doesn't enjoy the game. Not only is that just really bad practice, it sets a bad example for players who *do* enjoy the game.
The point is. I feel I shouldn't have to pay for something that is supposed to be a trial. It doesn't make sense from any direction.
It's cool they finally added a trial for the game but its still kinda sketchy you still have to pay anything when pretty much every other subscription game as a free trial.
You do realize that Eve has been out for years. Yes?
Eve is also a much better game, but prolly too complicated for all the low life gankerz
Hmmmm, I played EVE for 5 years and I love Darkfall. I've been playing it since October.
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
No one is forcing anyone to try the game for $1.00 so move on please
Because if we all kept our mouths shut, nothing we ever get done. Because action can't influence this, maybe a voice can. Even if something doesn't effect them personally, people feel obligated to speak out about it. I know it's sorta early for this, but think of it like the Earthquake in Haiti. Sure, it didn't hit me at home, but that doesn't mean I don't care about what happens to the people over there, nor does it mean I can't discuss it's effects it's having on me in a public forum; which I remind you, is what this is.

Its AV's game you play by their rules and their defintion of a trial or you dont play, simple as that. You look silly telling someone how to run their business.

Perhaps, but it is my opinion, just like that is yours.
Good idea. That way those that genuinely want to try out the game and are actually interested in it will check it out. As opposed to people spamming trials etc. Especially when its an open world full loot no restrictions PvP game - people having the ability to spam characters and gank is lessened when theres a small cost.
Those who are complaining seriously look at it logically to the style of game and how it genuinely benefits the experience for current players. I mean come on, $1 is absolutely nothing.
I only have a small comment in regards to all the bickering amongst you all, it says "Trial". Nowhere does it say "free trial" so why assume "Trial" meant free, where did it mislead you?
I don't mind the dollar charge in order to try the game for 7 days... See you on the battlefield.
"The King and the Pawn return to the same box at the end of the game"
When you register for a game using a credit card it always charges you a ghost amount of money (to test if your credit card is valid or not). Obviously in Aventurine's case they don't have such a system set up so they use the $1 amount in the same way.
Anyway as another poster pointed out, $1 for a week of gameplay is as good as it gets.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds -Solid non level based game -Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
Does the $1 trial inclue a clause that after 7 days it will automatically charge you the $50 for the software unless you cancel? This is what I would expect from a subpar company.

No, that's not the case. You need to actually upgrade manually to a full client.

What, just because a company doesn't put billions of dollars into game development it's "subpar"??
I think a dollar for a 7 day trial is a tad bit anoying but I'll end up checking it out when I get a chance.
Oh no you won't,not unless they fix the registering lol.I sent them an email, probably no response for several days,i think it was directed to accounts lol,to witch i doubt anyone in accounts has any credentials to respond to their botched registering web page design.
I couldn't care less about a dollar , i already know DF is a weak PVE game with little content, but i just wanted to mess around for awhile lol.I wanted to see how frustrated i get when mobs are shooting me before i can even see them lol.I wanted to see if aggro was just distance or if it had any realistic mechanics like SIGHT/SOUND/smell ect ect.

Awesome deal! I always thought paying a dollar and downloading some gigs just to be ganked, farmed and then zerged ganked again is a great thing.
Made my day. A week of gaming for a buck? Fantastic!
Eve is also a much better game, but prolly too complicated for all the low life gankerz
Not bad at all!
Still I remember the 2.95 charge for digital DL fee for AoC. Got to cover costs somewhere (for options other than torrent)
I find it kinda sad if a game can't even offer free downloads o.O

I thought i commented on this botched trial already, seems my post magically disappeared lol.
The AV web master so brilliantly put the Next BACK buttons right on top of the birthdate button making it impossible to register lmao, nice move.
