Last time i was in ddo was in closed beta, i didnt like the game very much so that i would pay for it, so i dropped it since then..
Few days i ago i found out that they made it f2p. But seriously, whats going on? Either i m a complete idiot or something is wrong here. Or there is no communication between the companies that provide the game in US and EU.
on www.ddo.com says "free to play"
on www.ddo-europe.com says "10 days free trial" and "buy here!".
Whats the case here? Could anyone enlighten me please. I 'd like to play the game but i prefer the european servers cause of the time zone and latency

Well it is very easy the US version is free to play with cashshop and "vip-pass" instead of monthly fee... the EU version is not.
I have been playing the free version for some time and i can not say i had much lag but your milage may vary.
Try the free version.. it is after all free... Unless you want a drow/warforged monk/favourd soul right of the bat... that will cost you.
This have been a good conversation
To expand on that Europe is not run by Turbine, but Codemasters, there is also an issue with Atari over the distribution rights in Europe that prevent Codemasters going to F2P. Codemasters have hinted several times it is not their decision, so expect no F2P in Europe until Turbine and Atari have had their day in court.
However playing US version from Europe is not a problem, which I would guess is the answer for you.
EU version is run by code masters who have not gone for the free to play model
Just play NA version, I played that and had no lag at all.

Don´t go for the EU-servers they are more then dead.. on a good day they have 80ppl online, if you are from europe try Thelanis-server and go read the us-forums they are handy and have alot of info.
