Thats what happened to Allods online, and I dont see much of a difference here with this game myself! Could I be wrong, sure, but as it looks without the original coding team to further the game, they will bring in people to adjust existing code to revolve around a heavy CS and then slap it on the community to see who will bite. Buyer beware I say!

They're kinda doing similar with The Chronicles of Spellborn as well

But that game was already eligible for Cash Shop status given the fact the only way to pay the sub to it once upon a time was with Acclaim Coins.

Oh yeah true GamerAeon. I remember when that fell through. To bad for that game, it had potential as well!

It's still running F2P 100% until they install TCoS v2 into the works

I hope that they manage to pull this off and make G&H a great game.  It will take a hell of a lot of work and redesign though because the original version was crap beyond belief.  MMO's these days need a lot of money behind them to get even half decent and most independant developers don't have that type of clout.

    MMORPG.com:

How do you plan to bring the game “up to date” with the expectations of gamers in 2010 as opposed to 2007?

    Tim Schubert:

Gods & Heroes has aged surprisingly well and still feels and looks great. While there are some things we need to do to make sure it meets modern day expectations it is in really good shape. You’ll have to stay tuned to discover our specific plans, though!

I didnt think that the answers were as consistently solid as others, I supposed.  This is an example whereby the game, in it's current state, doesnt have any robust player-driven crafting, merchandising or economy staples.  The question posed was the right question, but the answer is hollow and allusive.  But then again, providing lofty positive generalizations around features that are non-existent are par for the course for developers, and certainly ring true by using the most recent mmorpg to hit the market as an example.

Those new fangled features you're looking for were introduced in 1997, the question was about graphics and combat gameplay, not about crafting and economy.

G&H had no PvP and no crafting systems at the point they were going to launch it. It was pure PvE questing, with the minions and gods being the most unique attributes. Grappling attacks were interesting, but they are still push button and watch the animation.

G&H was too small and would have faired about as well as Vanguard if it had actually come out in 2007 / 08.

Schubert answered about graphics because that's all he can talk positively about. If G&H is going to launch in any major way, it will need a lot of work and additions to the systems it currently contains. Perpetual promised a lot - separate starting areas for every class, more customisable character development - but ended up with a single starting area and a return to skill trees.

With all due resepect, anything Perpetual promised is out the window -- this is Heatwave's game now.

As they said, and, really, what every mmo player seems to want, is a developer to deliver a polished game rather than a protracted beta with multiple systems in some unfinished state.  Schubert stated that this was their objective -- finish up the mainline system so it is shippable at anytime and then focus on additional features so that they can meet their release deadline (tbd) without having a bunch of system in so-so shape. In his opinion, the graphics and combat seem to "have aged well" (this would be the mainline of the game, along with a quest path, would you not agree?).  Great, so they can polish that and then focus on any of a number of features that may be of interest to them (i.e. appealing to their target audience), whether it be crafting, pvp, community features, or additional leveling paths.  This is what they must determine.

It would probably be best that Gods and Heroes goes free to play.

I was looking forward to GnH, I was in the beta and I am excited that it is being resurrected but now people should look at this from a logical business point of view instead of a fanboy player.

When Perpetual shut it down GnH still had months of debugging quality control left, and that was just for the parts of the game that was atually finished. Which means that Heatwave probably wont have GnH ready for release until maybe 2011.

Do you really think a 2007 PvE MMO can survive in 2011 with a retail/monthly fee model? How about you ask Alganon how well its doing in the retail world.

Yes, you are excited that Gods and Heroes is back(so am I) but are you excited enough to pay $40 and a $15 monthly fee? Do you think GnH can hold retail space along side Cataclysm, Star Wars, Final Fantasy and Guild Wars?

In the free to play world GnH will have a chance to find an audience and live after being brought back from the dead.

Wow this is great news! I was in beta during the PE days and I loved GnH. I hope that Heatwave can retain what was and improve on the game. I will deffently be trying this game out!

LOL, me too!  First thing I look for, are they asking for Beta Testers, but all I get is a newsletter sign up *sigh*

The minion system was good, but I worry how well it worked out for STO and its redshirts.  I also fear Cash Shop Minions.

My main gripe was the no crafting, but I liked the rest.  Even the invisible lions, who were ultimately fixed.

Once again, reiterating the fact that this will not likely be the same game everyone "knew and loved" back in the day when it does finally release, have fun waiting to hear if they decide to make it F2P or P2P (as they mentioned they're considering all pricing options). From the tone, I have a feeling they're going with F2P and just don't want to say it yet because its too early and they know people will flip. Just giving you a heads up for that massive disappointment though.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

I hope Heatwave succeeds where Perpetual failed.  It would be a shame, and especially from those who beta tested and commented that it had good potential, to let it just disappear into obscurity.

I was one of the original 50 Alpha testers. I have to say I am thrilled GnH will live again. I loved this game. It did need more systems in places and other play issues needed to be ironed out, but for the most part, what was there was tons of fun.

I am very excited about this game. I have always been intrigued by mythology and the ancient world and welcome the opportunity to learn more about it.
