Ncsoft - Sort your Account systems out - Stop the Hacking

emotaemota Member UncommonPosts: 413

Title says it all,

I couldnt and would not promote this title to anybody, stay away from it. Irrespective of what you think of the game, if your tempted to try it, stay away.

Hackers paradise, friends, guildies, lots of folks have had the same issue. Accounts hacked, personal details taken. Fraud it its peak.

/Waves goodbye to Aion and all future Ncsoft products.

lol, the only people that have to worry about hackers are ones that do RMT, answer an email that looks like it is from NCSoft and enter accoutn info or visit a keylogger site.

Mind posting some proof since your claim is rather outrageous?

Personally, I don't care what you post.  However, to those who never played the game, you might need to offer a leat a bit more tangible evidence.  It doesn't have to be big, maybe a communication e-mail between you and NCsoft?  Since you seem to have you accounts hacked, are you telling me you never tried to get it back?

If you are one of those that fell for the phishing e-mail after repeated warning by NCsoft saying to be aware of it, then I got nothing more to say.  ROFLMAO

BTW, GG doesn't seem so bad now does it?

    Edit:

To posters above:  Yeah, usually its the people who buys kinah that get their informations leaked, then blame it on NCsoft.

I can understand how the OP feel about it. Until now, I still so hesitated to join a Legion because it was so risky to register on the legion website or using their forum. It's like a time bomb. "They" may already knew your account but just waiting for until you hit lv50 then hacking your account.

I noticed the top 3 legions on my server are mostly botters, either from easten europe, Russia, or mostly are from China. There are a great number of Chinese players on EU server. One thing for sure, they are not there like me paying EU12.95 every month to play Aion just to killing time.

The distrust between players and the game is very deep from their marketing strategy, business manner, botters, goldsellers until MT introduced recently. All and all makes you believed that the next poor victim could be you if you don't pay attention too well.

Remember, when you login the game, Ncsoft pop on your chat with four different kind of warnings. It's like the warning on cigarette pack, Smoking is hazardous to your health.

Who in there right mind uses the game login info to signup of a legion website / forums??  If you do then you deserve to be hacked and have your account taken away.. I would go as far as to say someone from the legion should also goto your house and slap you a few times and then take your computer.

Common sense should tell you to not do that. You should use a different password and account name for every account you use. Most people don't, but them same people also find themselfs getting there account info stolen all the time.

100% Incorrect. There were security holes in the NCsoft account site as well as Aion Source forums that allowed them access to peoples accounts. The were getting into the Master accounts, resetting the info, then resetting the Aion game account password, this way by changing the email associated with the account first you wouldn't be notified when your game account password was reset. It was done by the RMT but the majority of the accounts being hacked were from the above issues.

I just posted a somewhat similar post about it.  I have seen it myself as I get multiple messages informing me that my account has been suspended and then they post a link for more information in game.  The site of course is a clone and keylogger, but it actually says aiononline/secure.  I've never seen this before in a game.  The gold selling is nearly gone, but this stuff is exponentially worse.  I only wonder how casual gamers who are new to MMO's would deal with it?  I know a bogus message, but do they?  Simply because they are new and ignorant to these scams they "deserve" it?  Something smells a bit like elitist.

Yes, my account was hacked. I never bought gold, went to any phishing sites or anything. Took 15 days to restore my items in which I was calling NCsoft support every day. The confirmed most of what I said.

Email spoofing isnt anything new. It's been around since the early 90's and before.  There is little to nothing a company can do about it in the end.. You can only repeatedly make posts about it and tell the community what to expect. But at the end of the day its the players responsibly to use there account info wisely and not to go entering it into places it doesnt belong.

Aion isn't the only game with these problems. Every MMO out there has millions of spoof emails going out just like Aion. You can goto just about any MMO's website and somewhere on it, it will have stated not to enter your info into any place other then there own secure website / game. Heck its not uncommon to see a CM post up a spoof email just to show the player base what to expect.

Ageain computer security can only go so far and is in the players hands. A company cant prevent someone from putting there info into a bad website anymore then some joe smo. They can't scan a players computer for keyloggers , ect... so what would you propose they do to stop this? What do you propose any company do to stop this?  It's easy to point at a problem and then lay blame on the company.  But its alot harder to come up with a working solution to fix the problem.

I'm not talking about email scams.  Yeah.  I've seen those in nearly every MMO, including Lotro.  These are in game tells as people posing as GM's..and giving you a in game link.  I'm not saying it's purely NCsoft's fault..I think the game (for some reason) attracts unsavory characters.  Perhaps it's been my fortunate luck in the past 10 years of playing mmo's..but this the first time I've ever gotten these.

Have the conversation recorded?  Thats some fairly big stuff to be claiming..  Even more so from a player that is disgrunted because his account got hacked. Until such time you can put down some cold hard proof then there is little stock in your claims.  Too many people claiming to many different things to believe any of it without proof to back it up.

I can my grandma said she heard from NCSoft support that there was no such issue and that your are lying.  See what I mean..  Little stock without some proof.

BTW I highly doubt there database was hacked in any form.

The same thing is fairly common in World of Warcraft.  It's just that there chat system does a far better job of filtering out the junk from the important stuff.

Not "deserve" it.  However, when the game periodically announce that for everyone to avoid scams and losing account informations they should be wary of where they put in their account numbers and pw, yet someone still went to do it.

I'd think that is enough to say that they can try to get NCsoft to restore their item, but first they need to admit it was their own stupid mistake that caused it or blame the scammer (except you can't find the scammer but you can always find NCsoft)

Being a new player is hardly an excuse since game developers are not responsible for teaching you how to use the internet.

Maybe next time I buy a lottery ticket and lose I should blame the Lottery Commission.

    Edit:  To the OP:

If there is something like NCsoft being hacked thus caused the information being leaked it would be one thing.  However, when it come to players, no one know if they ever leaked or get their information stolen while visiting a site.  More often than not, most people that have their account stolen are the same people who shared that information with "trust worthy" people.

I personally in all my gaming history have never been hacked once.  I never shared my account with anyone other than myself.  Of course I might have just been lucky.  Yet, usually when my friends get their accounts stolen, they usually find that it was not so much the company, but simple betrayal from their "friends".

My main NCsoft account was hacked, despite I did not log in for months. All my accounts are inactive, so nothing to worry about but still... A master account hack is not to be taken lightly. I'm from Europe, and the hacking IP is USA...

my acc got stolen and then banned from NCsoft even after I submitted proof from my emails showing several different IP's changing my password.

Here are the IP's if anyone wants to google them, you will see they belong to a chinese and a korean sites.

    94.76.234.109

    115.93.198.156

Anyone wanna plant viruses on those IP's I will lick your shoes.

Ncsoft are currently dealing with my hacked issue, i am one of many who have recently had their master accounts hacked. Dont confuse this by listeing to assumptive, inaccurate generalisations by previous posters discounting the legitimacy of mine and others hacking claims. The excuses it only happens to people buying kinah, i have duplicate info which has been taken from other sites, i have accidentally given out my acct detail excuses dont wash, they are all inaccurate. None of them apply to me.

Ncsofts recent quote on hacking and related incidents

    From  http://na.aiononline.com/board/notices/view?articleID=219&page=

If you’ve been reading the news lately, you know that MMOs are under attack by RMTers (“gold sellers”) and hackers—not just Aion, but several other MMOs as well. Even Google has been the target of recent attacks. To combat this, NCsoft has been communicating with several other MMO companies about ways we can fight back as an industry. At NCsoft, you already know that we regularly review our account security processes and implement changes on an ongoing basis to ensure your Aion accounts, in addition to your other NCsoft game accounts are secure. These complex systems take time, require rigorous procedures, and need a very steady hand to balance additions and not disrupt the security measures currently in place. We sincerely appreciate the patience you have shown as we take time to make sure we are setting up and implementing the appropriate systems to best protect you.

As i state in my opening post, your master account, is not safe!

You know its funny because I myself have never been hacked, and I know plenty of people who ever never been hacked, and one last thing... I have yet to receive a phishing email either.

So I have come to the conclusion that you have a key logger on your PC because you visited some crappy fan website probably trying to figure out a quest or where a certain item drops. I am also willing to put money down that you do not have the appropriate internet security on your PC, such as Firefox with add-ons like NScript, KeyScrambler or Add Blocker Plus. Hell even if you were playing say for instance Word of Warcraft and visited a fan site dedicated to that game you still could get a keylogger that can compromise your Aion account.

If NCsofts master accounts list was compromised there would be a hell of a lot more people fucked then there currently are.

  • emotaemota Member UncommonPosts: 413

The point is, the Mater account was compromised, many, many folks have had the same problem.

My computer got a keylogger through steam forums, and of course my aion account got hacked. The worst part of it is, after submitting a support ticket to get my account back, it took almost 6 days to get my account back. They then tell me I can't get my kinah/gear back due to me SELLING (not buying) Kinah. I argued with them (I'm not even 50 yet, probably made 4 mill total since I started) about it, and they told me the investigation was closed and they would do nothing.

Screw NCsoft. I'm done with them.

If you clicked on any links from that 3 emails, then you were the one who made this happen!

Else, is imposible to get your account hacked. Stop saying that NcSoft have security problems, because the only one who has it, is the player :)

Actually, what I meant was it took them 6 days to respond to me. Once I finally got ahold of someone, it only took 15 mins to get access to my account.

There was a similar topic in the WoW parts of this forum where accounts with an authenticator was hacked.

Bottom line we came up with is your own PC's security ans surf behavior.

Start buying some REAL anti-virus software (ditch the stuff that comes with Windows).

Next thing NEVER visit any malicious site. They are known for auto installing keyloggers.

Thirth, never buy gold in any game, or use powerlevel services, but this linked to the above one.

Lastly, ditch IE or at least use the ActiveX blocker. ActiveX is used to install mallware on your system and IE by default accepts it.

I've been playing MMOs for "only" 6 years now, and I've played dozens of MMOs as well. Never been hacked on my account because of the above.

About not joining a Legion. I understand the fear, but if you follow the above you won't be hacked, or at least have a lot less chance to be hacked...
