If you fail to kill them in your house and they do make it out alive the police will show up to your house when the robber goes to the hospital as they have to report all gun shot wounds. Once the police file a report you run the risk of being dragged to court and sued over the dmgs and lost wages the person you shot. Yes America has a messed up system, but it also prevents the obvious abuse of the system in many ways.

If a company makes their products hard for some people to use, why can't they sue that company over it?
They can sue, they just shouldn't expect to win anything other than scorn because there is no law that says an entertainment company has to make their products accessible to anyone other than their target audience.
