I originally estimated that I would have to kill roughly 10,000 mobs before I would have a competitive chance at PVP but I think I may only need to kill about 9,000. About once a day I will die to a Red Player while at a PVE spot and when I die its still an absolute slaughter even after 4,217 PVE kills under my belt. I'm always left with the same thoughts, man that player sure did A LOT of PVE. I've only been grinding for 4 weeks and I've been hitting it pretty hard but man oh man do I have a long way to go before I can give a PVE maxed out Red Player a run. So, I really only have about 4,800+ PVE kills to go which i keep telling myself isn't that bad but it is starting to wear on me a little I must admit.
My advice to new players is take frequent breaks and avoid burnout. Try not to focus on the entire 9,000 PVE kills and focus on the next mob and the one after etc.

Better advice: Join a clan.
If it's still an absolute slaughter at 4 weeks then I'm afraid there is little hope for you. Try spending more time exploring and looking for fights just for the experience. There's a lot more to a fight than just your characters skills and stats.
This is true.
I'm assuming you play Darkfall. When I'm hitting for 22-26 and they are hitting me for 45+ it's easy to see the outcome. They generally have 340 - 400 HP and I have 240. I'm not good enough to overcome those numbers at 4,217 PVE kills but It will be different after another 4,800 PVE kills.

240 health after 4 weeks? You're doing something very wrong.
looks you gotta man up and grind the mobs, really simple as that.
No one candy coats darkfall. Those guys that are 2 spelling you grinded out their 10000 mobs. Why make the game easier for noobs.

Help me out if you can. I might have 246 HP not logged in atm.
I agree with you and I don't have a problem with the grind. It does get to me at times as I'm sure it does for most people but I agree that the PVE maxed out player has earned the right to destroy my character in-game without question.
This thread has nothing to do with that thread. If you know a way for me to gain more HP other than PVE and chopping wood please let me know. I don't know what reported means?
Nice try buddy, I fell for this the first time, but not this time.
Anyone reading this thread, please read through the OP's other thread and be sure to not play the way he does (takes all of the fun out of the game), and take some of the advice that was given throughout that he did not.

Please stop posting in my threads if you are going to attack and not help. I doubt this person plays Darkfall. Please take this threads advice and take it slower than i have to avoid PVE burnout. Keep in mind Im having a good time playing this game the way I am.
That is true but I don't think experience is going help much:
1. Keyboard/Macros
2. Character Skills
3. Character Gear
4. Player Knowledge/Ability
5. Character Stats
1. The biggest problem with DF combat is the GUI is not built correctly for the style of gameplay, and the use of keyboards/mice with macro software provides a huge advantage over a traditional keyboard/mouse. I played around with the gui trying replicate traditional FPS controls of using two buttons to cycle through the hotbars and the hotbar slots. The idea was to lessen the number of keybinds, since the combat is much more focused on aiming and moving.
- Hotbar switching is buggy atm. The cursor does not default to the first slot when switching through the hotbars.
- Item usage works different than skills. It is automatically loaded and used.
- Hotbar needs a better highlight on the skill that is loaded to make this a bit easier to identify the cursor.
2. I felt the skill curve to be very natural and did not seem to be slow or too fast.
3. I don't find the need for good gear to be all that bad, since gear is extremely easy to come by. It is almost practically worthless to other players, except to npc it for gold.
4. Archery and Magic are fun. Melee feels extremely spastic instead of methodical. The game could use more emphasis on block/parry/dodge/ double jump.
5. I'm not even going to talk about this as character progression with stats is almost non existant. In a PVP heavy game it should be slightly accelerated, and be a more diminishing returns type of curve. i.e. the first 50% > the last 50%

I chose to click the link obviously. I would rather that anyone who is the slightest bit curious about Darkfall not to think that they have to strictly grind PVE mobs till their head bleeds before they can enjoy any kind of competitive PVP. That is false, and the OP had this explained to him many many times.

People don't understand the meaning of Free Speech. People "use it" to say anything they want even if it's pure bullshit with nothing to back up their claims. That's not how things work. If you say to a Police officer "You are stupid", he'll arrest you. Why? Because even "Free Speech" as it's limit. Don't use the "It's a free world" argument, it's the worst argument I have ever seen and isn't constructive at all..
The OP does everything wrong and doesn't listen to advice. He then goes on this forum to "complain" about the grind even though we have explained COUNTLESS TIMES that solo-grinding is not the way DarkFall works and that you MUST join a Clan. And this is just one of the many solutions to enjoy DarkFall. Must I remember you that DarkFall heavily focus on Clan Warfare and that everywhere you go, you are at risk of encountering an agressive player?
OP: find an Akathar camp. You'll net thousands in gold, selentine keys, and regs in no time at all, and level your stats, rigor, reflexes, and general resistances VERY fast.
They are immune to air and fire magic (dunno about earth and water....don't have them myself), so focus on melee and archery. They don't dodge very quickly, and they're wide targets, so perfect for leveling archery as well.
They use weak air magic, such as lightning ball and lightning bolt...and they also use begone, which is far more annoying than anything else. Your rigor will go up at adecent rate since they also use dagger, and hit fairly quickly.
Bring lots of food, and practice your double-jump to avoid their spells.
IN a week of grinding these, you'll not only advance your skills tremendously, but you'll be stinking rich. Don't forget your skinning knife!!
Now then....leave the goblins, kobolds, skeletons, and trolls alone, and get some real gains.

If they try to PvP without killing at least 9 thousand mobs they will get angry and probably quit the game quicker than if they just ground down on the 9 thousand mobs. Stop trying to deceive new players into thinking that there isnt a huge grind before being able to compete. It's just like any other game. Actually you can probably be competitive PvP'er faster in WoW than you can in this game because it has battlegrounds. The average new player in Darkfall will get bored out of his skull shortly after PvP'ing with his clan and realizing that he: A) Gets killed instantly, He barely does any damage, C) He has zero utility. If you are new and try to solo PvP you are better off putting your nuts in a blender and hitting the "crushed ice" button. We all know this.
Aventurine doesn't care that you're trying to stand up for their game so you can just stop. "Defending Darkfall on Forums" isn't a skill and you don't get 1 skill point each time you report a post so just stop trying. You aren't going to get a mob named after you in the game for your efforts in trying to get new players to sub. Of course you probably know all this already but just can't admit that you're wrong. I know it's hard, but lying really won't make someone stay in the game after they joined thinking there wasn't a grind.
If you can muscle through the huge grind the PvP game of your dreams awaits you. That's all there is to it. All the "themepark" games have quests and progression set to keep you within a storyline. Darkfall doesn't have this so its replaced with just killing mobs. Where you would have to grind to 80 in WoW with quests you have to grind to 10k mobs etc in Darkfall. It's no different. You can't refuse this. Well, you can but you wouldn't accomplish anything and will just make yourself look really bad.
I've been playing two weeks about and have 248 almost 250 health. I do a lot of mining and lumberjacking which increases vitality gains a lot.
I just finished my free 30 days. I have about 244 hp. I'm sure you are lacking greatly in skills. 350 hp won't make you competitive if you don't even have Greater Magic.
focus the first weeks on your melee skills and mastery
if you dont that and mined/chopped a bit also togheter with the vit quest you can be near the 290 hp it seems
2 newer members on nearly 4 weeks old got 280+ and is finishing his last vit quest
and a 2 weeks old player got nearly 260 hp and also is finishing his vit quest
both already come pvp with us in groups and do pretty good, solo ofcourse they have less change of killing but what do you expect in a months time
Why you can defend the huge NPC grind in a pvp mmo, is beyond my comprehension. The PVE crowd got several hundred games they could play, and still they want Darkfall. Don`t you PVE gamers ever get enough?
Why couldn`t the pvp crowd have one, just one fantasy pvp mmo?
And don`t you dare call yourself a pvper. You are just another pve player who thinks he has "deserved", " worked for" or "earned" his ability to kill low level players. As a pvper I don`t buy that, and nether does any other old school pvper. We were used to a term called player skill back then. Now that term is replaced with who can grind most stupid NPC`s.
If you ever feel proud of killing low level players, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Ohh funny shit happen just now. I did forgot my skinning knife, and I just logged off. Right now I rather wash my toilet than kill another NPC.
Each time someone kills you - ask him to link his weapons. You'd be suprised that he may actually have LOWER skills and stats than you - but is using high quality gear.
And solo PvE is a worst way to level up skills. 1 melee + 2 healers killing hard mobs are gonna get 10x more skill gains than solo player. 1 melee is hitting every 2 seconds (melee haste), and 2 healers are casting spells every 3 seconds with minimal downtime - getting good loot at the same time.
Capturing villages give you ~ 4x faster stat gains than mining.
Even if you're obsessed about skills / stats - killing kobolds / goblins leads to nowhere.
I doubt you will have the player skill that is needed even after the paperskill you get killng 4230+ mobs to win a single fight in PvP. You still will get stomped like you get now.

What the HELL are you talking about???
It sounds like you want Darkfall to be an FPS, where there are no character skills at all.
The poster I was responding to has said multiple times that they feel that they need to grind mobs to be "competitive". Several of us have tried to explain that it's not necessary, that you can gain skill naturally over the course of play, but since they seem determined to take this route I figured I'd offer some advice in how to do it effectively, at least.
Everyone in Darkfall is at their own level of development. I've stated this over and over again. Heading out as a lower experienced solo player, yeah...yer gonna get stomped. But if you go out in a group, or with your clan, you can participate in and enjoy PVP quite fine. This is especially true if you're in a clan that practices group tactics on a regular basis, and learns to support one another with cross-heals, etc.
And another thing, I AM a PVP player.....in Darkfall, as well as the other MMORPGs I've played in over a decade of MMORPG gaming. I played FPS games competitively before I ever set foot in an MMORPG, and led more than one top ten OGL league clan in multiple games.
If I see an enemy in my clan's territory, I attack, regardless of weather they just started the damn game or not. I don't hang around the n00b areas killing new players, I live on Cairn, and if you think there's a lack of PVP players there, I invite you to come on down and find out for yourself.
And maybe I did "earn" my skills, and work hard to become good at the game. I for one am not afraid of hard work, and believe that it pays off. I am not a member of the "entitlement generation", where I expect everything to be handed to me on a silver platter just because I stomp my feet and whine.
Finally...I am not "defending" a PVE grind at all. People at release bitched that they felt they had to macro and bloodwall to gain skills, so the devs gave them an alternative by increasing skill gains in PVE. You don't have to kill mobs...you can get gains on other players. You don't have to grind the same mob for hours...you can just ride across the map exploring, and kill whatever you fancy....NPCs and players alike. You'll still get skill gains.
If you choose to grind, YOU CHOSE to do it. It's your own fault if you hate grinding, and do it anyway.
Man, I got back to game 2 weeks 5 days ago. I had 252 hp. Now I have 294 hp. And you know my progress should be slower than yours because my stats were higher... Btw I've no AFK-macroed aside from half-afk crafting/gathering...
