After about decade in D&D pen'n'pencile universe firends got me in EQ1 at 2001. And following 4,5 years I spent in best game (yeah, 1st love ya excuse all mistakes and are blind to them) Followed 2,5 years in EQ2, too great but not in same grade. Then came LOTRO, for start the lore and world was tremendous, I like it... til came out Moria, and slowly came feeling that devs forgot all the lore and world around. And after Mirkwood it's clear nothing is changed. Err, wrong - things changed but towards more grind and stupid instancing, so great - I left. Acc still open and maybe once per month I step in to say hello to friends, but... There is now out FE where I'm from beginning and still tho many ol' things (KTR, FedEx quests etc.) it's promising. Now waiting Sec4. Between gaming games byed/tryed many others - WoW, VG, AoC, STO etc. No of them isn't for me. But what I have read EVE could be thing to have look when FE thinks to start stink (hope so not happens)
I started playing when Ruins of Kunark came out for Everquest. Tried a few other games that I didn't like (Shadowbane) before finding World of Warcraft. Been playing that ever since it released. I have quit a few times and tried other games like Guild Wars, WAR, and AoC, but I still have yet to find my next next MMO.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
My first MMO were SWG in 2004. And that is so far the best MMO experience i havr ever had. Hopefulle something in the future will be better. But now its gone six years, and DF is the closets thing i have found Very sad.
Everyone's firstest MMO is the bestus. Doesn't matter if it was UO, EQ1, SWG, WoW, EQ2, whatever. You'll never experience that first blush again.
My first MMO was Everquest, and World of Warcraft blew it out of the water. I experienced my first blush and much much more a second time. And I truly believe there will be a third as well.

I only started playing MMOs recently. I played in 2009 and I continue to play now, obviously. The very first MMO I tried was World of Warcraft. I only played the free trial though. I wish I could say that Ryzom had been my first because then I could say that the one that I ultimately settled on was the first I ever tried.
Started playng EQ in 2002, in 2003, switched over to SWG on launch day (could not log in like most people) played that until the NGE was launched, then went to random MMORPGs Ryzom on the Newbie Island solely, then Eve for about a year, now I am playing a REALLY INDEPENDENT MMORPG project that is very similar to SWG but it is not quite finished yet.
--Not really surprised this site mostly has us old fossils here.
-Oh and I hate EQ, so I am another one who goes against the "Your first MMORPG is the one you like the best" trend.

Conquer Online was my first mmo really got into that one. Enjoyed playing my trojan. Current I play LOTRO and WoW. Still waiting for a decent sandbox mmo. So far Eve has half of what a good sandbox should have just need to add an actually character for each player and ground combat.
Worst game I have ever played was SWG. Didn't think they could make it worse but then NGE rolled in and......don't think i need to go into further detail their.
The Realm was first followed by Meridian 59 then UO.
So since launch of The Realm in 95 with a bunch of middle school friends.

Everquest in 1999.....on dial-up. =P

<---- Day 2 of AO live.
I was looking at buying EverQuest and saw Anarchy Online on the shelf next to it.
------- END TRANSMISSION
I played EQ as my first MMO back in 1999.
Asheron's Call 1
It was awesome :-)
Though by today's standards it would be considered total crap
See the violence inherent in the system!
It seems like the majority of posters here played EQ first. Interesting.
For me it was RuneScape my friends got me hooked on it. But after that it was guild wars.
Playing
uhhh... dang.
first MMO for me was Asheron's Call, starting at retail release in November 1999.
I only started playing MMOs recently. I played in 2009 and I continue to play now, obviously. The very first MMO I tried was World of Warcraft. I only played the free trial though. Depends what you consider an MMO.
I think of The Realm as the first. so I guess I started with that. . and Meridian 59 then UO. DaoC etc.
If you consider other games MMOs then NWN on AOL, gemstone, Darksun etc.
The funny thing is that I only played The Realm and Meridian through beta. . .still doing that today
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
Shadowbane 2003.
A man is his own easiest dupe, for what he wishes to be true he generally believes to be true...

Everquest in 2002.
I did not play online much before that due to poor internet connection.
Lets see...
The Realm was first followed by Meridian 59 then UO.
So since launch of The Realm in 95 with a bunch of middle school friends.

Xmass 1999 EQ for a real MMORPG. We had made things like Mechcommander MMORPG's back on good old Mplayer with our campaigne systems.
my first MMO was ultima online in 1998. i didn't last too long though, only about four months -- i got tired of being PK'd.
my second MMO was AO (started in early 2002) , which i played for three years.
