Still looking for a new game...

My favorite game of all time was SWG, but get this not precu. The CU was my absolute favorite game. Skill based, auto target, auto attack and tactical. Any combination of skills could win if you knew how to properly play it.

That being said I just recently tried Darkfall and turned away from it based on the full loot system and the manual targeting. I also tried Fallen Earth and turned away after a few hours because its clunky and feels like someone smashed NGE swg and fallout 3 together. Also played mortal online which was pretty much just a Darkfall copy cat in shambles.

Anywho what I'm looking for in an MMO:

1) Tactical, auto targeted combat. I hate strafing and circling to avoid attacks. Also cant stand Pot spamming 1 shotting asian style mmos but totally open to an asian style thats not like that

2) Some what open worlds. Everything instanced out the ass really bugs me.

3) Diverse classes or skills system. I like classes with some choice or of course the fabled skill system.

4) World pvp, no looting players

Some games I loved I wish I could have back..... CU swg, Fung Wan Online (man I miss that game), populated COH/COV, first month MXO.

I was into AoC for a few months but once I capped a character I was like eh.... the pvp is really shady with how easy it is for casters. And yes I know CU swg was cloned off WoWs combat but I really cant stand WoW

I have a suggestion for you.  If you've tried it before and didn't like it, so be it.  If you haven't, let me firmly suggest that you ignore anything you've heard or read about the game I'm about to recommend, and just dive right into the 21-day trial.

If you're anything like me, you'll spend your first few minutes going,

    "Wha?"

Then, the next few hours going,

    "How?"

Then the next few days going,

    "Why didn't I?"

And, maybe, just maybe, when you come to the end of the 21 days you'll do what I did and support a game that actually has tried to do something different in the MMORPG genre.  I subscribed.

If you do, please don't hesitate to say hello.  The name is Xanriel.  The game is Ryzom.

If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.

I've got two suggestions for you.

First is Age of Conan, I know you've played it before but they've nerfed the casters pretty good and added some late game content with more to come in the expansion that is ahead. (April/May)

Second is Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, the game had a really rough start but that's all fixed up by now however the player base isn't very big but if you do like the game and think you could keep on playing it if you just have a few people to play with give me a shout and I'll send some info about our voice chat so you can come join us if you like.

I'm playing DF and loving it but I would suggest you should try Ryzom. One of my fav games and it fits perfectly what you described.

Alright well I was avoiding ryzom because last time I played it it was a ghost town. How is it now? Are they actually actively developing it now?

As far as Vanguard goes. Did they ever fix that mess? I liked the game but it seemed like an abandoned mess with no pvp other than the gank fest of a broken pvp server.

Well, I'd be a liar if I told you Ryzom has a huge population.  Still, I've had no difficulty picking up groups on both the starter island and the mainland.  Of course, it doesn't hurt that I'm not afraid to toss out a "lfg" message when I need it.

The new development team is small, but obviously really devoted.  Check out their web page and you'll see the things they've completed over the past year, and also what's on their plate moving forward.

I dunno I mean when I tried getting  back into ryzom a week or so ago I didn't really see anyone as apposed to when I was last playing and you saw quite a few people and there were tons of conversations in world chat. Don't get my wrong ryzom is one of the best games out there in my opinion I just need people to play it with to enjoy it.

I completely understand and appreciate that dlooney, and therein lies the vicious trap that we, as MMO gamers have caught ourselves in.

I'm not saying that Ryzom is the best game evah, but it certainly deserves a much larger audience than it has.  But, because these online games, and the average gamer that plays them, demand a vibrant community, the majority of us become Lemmings.  This sheep mentality funnels players into games that validate our choice, because if they have the most players they must be good!

This is not a knock against WoW, just an observation of human behavior.

The sad thing about Ryzom is that many players say exactly the same thing as you...that it's a very fun game...but they don't see many other players.  This causes them to think that game isn't good, or that it's time has passed, and they move on to WoW, or find themselves caught up in the "next best thing" wheel.

I chose to support Ryzom regardless.  I know my one 3-month sub does nothing in the grand scheme of things, but it makes me feel like I'm not contributing to the problem...at least as I see it.

I would agree with some earlier suggestions:

    1. Vanguard
    2. EQ2
    3. Ryzom

    In that order.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

I am doing the EQ2 14 day trial. You should try the game if you havent already. If you subscribe after the 14 days you can download the full client for free. If you dont like it nothing is lost. They do not ask for a credit card for the free trial and it only takes minutes to download. I am still learning the game but it seems fun so far.
