With the 3rd Closed Beta test of TERA looming (26th Feb - 7th March), here are more details on what to expect. While the previous closed beta showcased how polished the game is, majority of the players feedback that there weren't enough skills and content, with some minor bugs during attacking due to the non-target system.
Closed Beta 3 will allow up to 20,000 players to participate, with nearly 200 hours of test time. Compared to Closed Beta 2 where only 3 continents were opened, Closed Beta 3 will open up almost half of the world map for players to try out, meaning some mid-high level maps will be available. One concern is that with 10 days of testing, not many players will be able to reach the higher level areas. From what I read, the developers are going to allow players from Closed Beta 2 to keep their characters and continue to level in Closed Beta 3.
For character actions, the "jump-attack" feature is added. In Closed Beta 2, players were able to walk underwater; In Closed Beta 3, the swimming action will be added. The climbing action will also be added to aid players to cross through areas with no more open roads, mostly in instances. This will no doubt add a deeper "action rpg" feel to the game. As I mentioned in the previous post, the male Castanic and female Human character will be available for choosing.
A total of 68 new skills will be added to Closed Beta 3, with more skills which will adapt better to the non-target system of the game. One of the more flashy skills will be the archer's ability to "lock-on" 4 mobs at the same time and release an AOE skill. The "Healing" skill will also be added with a "lock-on" system for better control of the skill.
Other features which will be added include the Auction House, Party Search (find players to form a party, this feature is not fully ready), Abyss Instance (mainly for big scale boss fights), better macro key features and a few minor tweaks.
While the above are the details from CB3, the source (see below) also mentioned some details for the Open Beta (most likely subject to change). Skill enhancement system will be added to the Open Beta, in which players will be able to choose and enhance their skills according to their preference, hence having same characters with different skill sets. The battlefield will also be added, which as a MMO player you should know, adds in the large scale PvP feature. Points will be given for PvP kills, allowing players to trade them for items/ equipments. A possible political system seems to be in the works along this feature, where players will high points can aim to be a "leader". Archlord, anyone ? Mounts will also be added, but it will not be in Closed Beta 3.
Many players also complained about the high system specs required for Closed Beta 3. The source stated that the final system requirements are not set yet, and they will be closely monitoring this detail and only confirm when ready. It also stated that the main aim of the game now is to optimize the non-target feature to allow smooth gameplay for the players.
High level equipments, the rare ones, is written as undroppable from normal mobs, even bosses. The only way to get them is to gather materials and craft. This will allow active trading and communication among the TERA community.

And these changes are what they've done between CB2 and CB3, imagine what we will have by the time release is here.

There isn't a date set for the western release just yet. However, the developers of Tera have just recently announced their newly created firm 'En Masse Entertainment' with developer experts coming from all over the world. They would be responsible for giving us Tera. You can read more about it here: www.terafans.com/topic/468-en-masse-entertainment-announced-tera-fans-honored-with-one-of-their-first-interviews/
Regarding the release date, the developers of Tera have a shared vision and goal as releasing Tera in the west aproximately at the same time as in Korea. Although, we could assume some delays.

1st half 2011 for us
Loved the part at the end saying the best items in the game will need to be crafted. That means that bosses and mobs will mostly drop materials that need to be used to craft. Similar to L2's style of crafting and economy which was excellent.
How is the world? Is it as many new mmos with mountains surrending the path you must walk to make quest after quest?
