"Warhammer Online director expects three million subscribers
by Samuel Axon Sep 17th 2008 at 3:00PM
Warhammer Online Creative Director Paul Barnett said in an interview that he's (literally) betting that WAR will achieve one million subscribers within a year and three million at its peak. Apparently there's an office betting pool at Mythic about this subject. If Barnett's right, he stands to win ... wait for it ... $26. Wow. Enjoy your large pizza, man. . ."

This is nearly 2 years old, what's your point?
Edit: Most people knew WAR was supposed to have a lot of subs. Though I suppose 3 mill is lol'worthy.
Yeah, considering they went from having several servers to six.
Damn, were they really that disillusioned with their product to think they had something worth playing to draw that many numbers? Imagine a WAR done in a open world like Darkfall with real time combat and using of abilities with armies marching across it to attack the other realm, not load an instance, that's how a War hammer MMO should have been done.
They thought they knew the wow modell. And it looked very nice on paper.
And they believed that there actually were 12m subs to fight over. But since that's not the case, they lost.
haha big time, I think peak was 750,000 players? and since then its gone down hill. I wonder if they have started gaining people again..

The peak was probably near the end of the free month. First day sales + the people who joined during the rest of that month. By the time the people who subbed the earliest got the end of their first month the game has only declined since. Maybe they are gaining subs at the moment, but if they are, it doesn't seem like particularly many, and it would seem to be because they have finally reached their lowest point.
What's the point of this thread in 2010? Another "easy to be wise after the event", or just the usual trolling? So boring...
And, yeah, WAR has started gaining people again, just for the record.
If only we could go back to all the "WAR will KILL WOW" threads...
I particularly liked this comment, though there are more gems than this one:

Uh, if you think 3 million is over-estimating you need to crawl out of the WoW crib.
A sad accomplishment, this game was. They'd probably be lucky to get 300k subscriptions today. mmodata.net/
It boggles the mind that the top 5, 1 million subscriber plus MMOs are STILL WoW, Aion, Linage 1, Lineage 2 and Runescape....

Except that Darkfall was also a flop. Not really any worthy real time combat in it when everyone is jumping up and down in circles.. reminds you of a highly caffeinated unreal tournament. Not to mention their parry and block mechanic simply does not work properly (the delay on it makes not worth the trade off of 3 extra hits on the target). It's simply a gankfest, exploitfest, hackfest, and terrible community.
No.. WAR did the right thing by staying clear of that mess, because they were targeting the largest (most likely only profitable for corporations) audience.. casuals. Not hard-time 12 yr olds who wants to build e-peenage...
Sorry, just stating the large difference between a casual and ... i dunno what you call Darkfall... to be honest.
Was only a handfull of design decisions, and a couple failures to respond to feedback from the huge starting player base that kept this one from making a run on 3 mil subscribers. It could have easily gone very different from what it did.
The thing about designing pvp mmo's is that they really are a hit or miss type of deal. WAR has some great ideas, granted it took they a year after release to get them where they should have been, that should be part of any pvp based mmo. It is still a great game and from what I can tell its slowly growing but it is no where near what it should have been if they would have waited another year to release it.
TROLL!!!
Oh, what a nice little gem!!

Warhammer is so far ahead of WoW in every aspect. Expect this game to surpass WoW in a year or two as people switch out of the stale WoW and WoW's lackluster PvP and total lack of world changing RvR.
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL
well I thought it was funny.
I remember gettng banned from Warhammeralliance for pointing out the flaws I found.
And when the game came out, I was correct, and then the curtains came down. lol lo ll sllosl sloslolsolsl ossolsoss
Cool story bro.
So why isnt this thread considered trolling?

Well WAR is superior for me as the focus is not in PVE and killing static mobs, while people seem to like WoW more I can't fault them and make them play WAR instead as people seem to like doing the same boring instance over and over and over and over again with same mobs at the same position.
Actually scratch that, I rather play a great game that has nice people than have all rabid wowsers playing WAR
