Be sure to check out the Star Trek online interview

Some of you wanted an interview with Perpetual Entertianment. Well, here it is. I hope you like it.

http://www.mmorpg.com/sto_interview.cfm

From our first interview with the Lead Designer of Perpetual Entertainment concerning Star Trek Online, it looks absolutley awesome.

For you Sci-Fi fans and/or Star Trek fans, it's looking good

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

God, I hope so. The sci-fi genre isn't the best. Have lots of variety in the fantasy genre, but sci-fi is all either same-ol same-ol, monotonus, or just flat out crap. I'd love to see a good sci-fi game so that publishers would be more willing to try scifi games.

Thanks for the interview En1gma !

I had no information about the game before.. and now i am really interested in seeing the game concepts brought into life. I hope they do at least 50 percent of what they promised... then it will be a great game to play!

no question was asked about weather the game will be exporationcentric or primarily a combat game with starfleet elements

star trek is about discovery and the furthering of mankind, the only series that was focused on action was DS9 and it didnt really turn to that until the 3rd or 4th season and then there was exploration episodes even admist the dominion war soap opera

I really hope the exploration element wont be underestimated! I am explorer by soul! :) ( hope that phrase is correct, english aint my first language :P )

I personally can't wait for this game to make its' mark.  I know as more months go by we will get more info on this game.

I hope this turns out to be the game that all of us Star Trek fans have been waiting for.

    Sounds interesting.

Now can STO (Star Trek Online) be added to the upcoming games list? (Please!)

Personal opinion is that STO is going to be a Great Online Game. (Or at least it has the chance to do so.)

    Thanks for the update.

Great job on landing the interview! image

I was shocked about the move to exclude klingons from release. I am sure they are aware of the popularity and it will be a 1st update release kinda thing. The die hard fans who want klingons as a playable race would probably be upset if all you could do is speak english. Making them a post release addition will hopfully help them be the playable race Fans really want. Making a playable race that has it's own real language has to be harder to program than say one that just speaks gibberish.

With them able to use instanced zones, exploration will certainly continue.

I for one wish that the STO universe was as big as EVE's but that most planets could be beamed down to in a Intanced zone.  I realize that is way too much to ask, with the size of EVE's universe but it would be cool.

I still think a failure of SWG was not adding new planets.

It would be a hoot if they programed every Dangerous away mission so you have at least 1 red shirt with you, and he or she winds up dying somehow.

Pretty cool interview, I think the Devs may have an interesting take on gameplay from what was mentioned ::::02:: although after seeing the mess that SoE made on SWG I won't get my hopes up just yet lol but STO is most deff on my watch list.

mmorpg.com always seems to get the scoops atm En1Gma.... you guys hire a goon squad or something?

I am really looking forward to this MMORPG. I do disagree with the poster who thinks that a game dies if all the content is done by devs. I prefer it that way. SWG died off because the game itself was unstable, not because of lack of content. I lost track of the number of times that my PO lost its chat channel. We tried to make one only to have that one not work either. Some people could use a given a channel and others couldn't. Even this varied minute by minute. Missions suddenly despawning and then respawning... inventory that would move itself around for no reason.... bank vaults that were VERY unreliable... houses dropping their owners names from the admin list... hoppers that change/lose content... need I go on? SWG needed another 2 YEARS developing.

STO has the potential to be the greatest MMORPG of all time, IF its handled correctly. If they handle it the way SOE/LucasFilms handled SWG, then it is doomed to failure.

I'm looking forward to this MMO as well. One of the great things is, they dont even have a website yet, but they're already listening to community input, for example the races. People werent satisfied with 3 races and, with constructive thought mind you, suggested this to the devs, and they're already thinking of changing the races around to match the ST storyline. It shows that they are dedicated and fan-supportive.

This game sounds great with a lot of cool concepts, but I wonder about two things:

    A) How fully-fleshed out will the worlds (I'm sure they will be isolated cities instead of full planets) and starships be?  Will we just have certain zones on ships, or full-featured ships with levels, hallways, and such?

    B) Isn't everyone going to want to be a captain, ultimately?  Have their own ship, that sort of thing?  That may end up being the "Jedi" of this game.  I hope they make it work, though.

    Mr Man,

     nice point!!!

i thought initaly by reading article ( nice one thank you )

that folks would primarly be on the ship then zone, to "away missions"

i am kind of wondering how to get folks to "group " if on other games it takes time to find a group,

WHat if your play times are different from the "ship you have been assigned too?"

If it is based on putting us initaly with a group of folks, how will they handle the power gamers that rush through content, verses the casual players that only play 4- 8 hours a week and put some time in the weekend.

The consept of the ship becoming your "virtual world" may seem calstraphobic to some, that would love to get out and explore.... THe soloers that are involved in every mmorpg might find the consept of a rank on a ship working with others all the time a bit daunting........

For those that continualy knock swg remember it is one of the few games out there with speeder bikes and for the soloer that loves to explore is a dream game......

I am hopeful the room to roam and explore static content will still be viable ........

    I enjoy star trek.

After having gone to a convention, I have serious reservations about the community a game like this will have.

I likewise have very serious reservations as to the gameplay value it could possibly offer.

I will continue to watch this one, but at this point I am more then a bit skeptical about it. Star wars while the universe was not nearly as large as star trek as far as the story goes, seemed more suitable material for a game.

Star trek would strike me as more of a "Massivly multiplayer Online Simulator" then a MMORPG, but that is simply my perception of it "currently" that of course is always subject to change.

Here's a 'Guide to what is known' about Star Trek Online...

    http://www.startrek-online.net/article/33/stonet-guide-to-st-o.html

It's on a fansite I vist, but the developers post there and they seem to approve of it (the guide). I'm liking the way the game is shaping up. The interview you guys landed her was awesome btw, image

You can't be a Klingon or a Romulan?

    Bummer

  • JakletJaklet Member Posts: 244
They were going to have Klingons but include them as members of the Federation as part of their storyline, there was a lot of complaining from the communities (such as startrek.com and startrek-online.net and stgu.com) that they might be going to far out of canon, so they decided to release the Klingon Empire as a later expansion, as far as I know.

.......... i dont like the idea. i really dont like a lot of vehicles in MMORPG's. and i dont like too many guns, also i really dont like trekky geek talk, its got a language of its own.

Trekky geek 1 says " no the warp coil can never do the job of a warp matrix"

Trekky Geek 2 says" yes on episode (insert random numbers here) of next genreation it di, when they were fighting the borg, and they ran out of warp matrixes"

Trekky Geek 1" it wasnt the warp coil alone as much as it was it combined with the warp quantam field gerneator"

    Etc.
