Update:

The possibility to cancel your subscription is now, since yesterday, available when you log in to your account. Just choose "do not renew" and then "update", and no further charges will be made from your account.

What about people that want to not use their first month at release?  Only option there is to file a credit card dispute to get a refund and then buy the game later when they want to start playing again?

Hmmmmm, I'm confused.... You mean to say those who pre ordered have already agreed to a monthly sub? If not, why cancel since monthly charges have not been agreed upon- Or have they?

Sorry, just seems odd they would need to let you cancel when nobody is subbed- Am  missing something?

Yes.. free month begins immediately at release with no option to delay.  Many threads on the MO forums about that, but it has been confirmed.

Good question, who knows.  Sounds like they were planning on charging your card even if you did not subscribe (why would you since its not released yet)

From what I have read, people are saying that when they checked their account it was defaulted into "renew" subscription and they had to click the cancel button.   I haven't tested it myself so anyone concerned should really go take a look for themselves to be safe.  I'm really not sure... all I know is that you can now cancel your wub.

    Wow.... Just wow.....

So some people who may have just given up long ago and not looked back may have a surprise come May. That would be a shady move.

This is the truth.  Just had to manually set my account to not auto renew...

They need the funds so I wouldn't doubt if they did that.

I agree.. I think they should not have set it to auto-renew by default though (if thats in fact what they did.. still awaiting official SV confirmation).  Otherwise there are going to be a LOT of angry folks in 30 days who just wrote off MO as a bad gamble but are going to see a surprise subscription pop up.

The option have actualy been there before, back when preorders were made, due to a bug in the old system, the temperaory they had to add, didnt have the cancel button.

Yes as in most/all mmos your FIRST month, is ... the first month of the game. go figure!

As far as I'm aware, tons of games do this.  Most online accounts of all kinds make auto-renewing the default.  Jesus.

Most accounts aren't setup/payed 6-8 months early and most make you select a billing cycle BEFORE auto-renewing.

From what I have read thus far it would not surprise me. Hopefully those people check back and make sure that everything is taken care of. I've seen a few games charge after the free month was up even with the sub canceled.

I wouldn't be surprised, and the resulting shitstorm is going to be hilarious. Thanks for the heads up, just switched it myself. I think this is the first update to the actual site in almost a year. Hell, the racial backgrounds still have "lore pending" on about 5 of them...

edit: Apparently, this is exactly what they're planning to do

"Please note that once you choose a subscription method and interval, and finish registering your account, you will subsequently be automatically charged unless you manually cancel your subscription. You may do so at any time by logging onto the "account management" site on www.mortalonline.com, and there use the "cancel subscription" option. Your account will stay open until the end of the current billing cycle".
