So today I felt that I would check up in WoW, for the first time since I had reached 30 something near the first 6 months of the game. First a little background, when I read the e-mail about battle.net merging my account to WoW I ignored it for a bit then decided to do it just to play again someday, did this and that, week later read another email about my account being banned for something to do with gold farming ( @blizzard email address) came to the conclusion that it had to be a scam since Ihaven't even visited a site, related to or close to anything blizzard/wow in the past year or so. That brings me to today, tried to reactive my account just to see how things are going, first thing I notice is my password isn't working. Promptly changed my password so I could access my account manager, then I discover that I was indeed banned fancy that. There could have been no way that this should even have been an issue, the only way I can think of my account being stolen/banned is from merging my account with battle.net. Sent in "ticket" to get this cleaned up, only time will tell if blizzard does anything about it.

Obviously you merging your account had nothing to do with you being banned...
I'm lost. What does this have to do with blizzard merging accounts into battlenet??
He/She/the OP is refering to the mass increase of Hacking since the battlenet merge
I got ya. As far as I understand, most of the hacks being done by phishing and key loggers. Its been rumored more than once that the curse auto addon client has been responsible for being infected with key loggers. Also man-in-middle attacks.
the authenticator is a fantastic way to keep the account hack free. Theyre free for the iphone, ipod touch or you can buy them for like $6. They really should be giving these away for free with their next expansion, but we all know that probably wont happen.
bad thing is, if your battlenet gets hacked, everything linked to it gets hacked. I can see the concern
The only thing i didn't like about Blizzard merging the accounts so everyone had to go over to Battle.net was the way they handled it.
Most people i know didn't bother merging, myself included and then it got to a point where Blizzard basically said, you must merge within the next month otherwise you won't be able to play your games. It was finally pushed upon us and imo we still should've had a choice of merging or not merging accounts. Afterall the only reason they've done it is for Starcraft 2 online mode - from what i've read you have to use the battle.net system to play SC2 online as they have withdrawn LAN support or something like that.
If they are trying to make Battle.net the 'new' Steam then it won't work cos Steam is way too big for them to counter now, if it's been done just for SC2 then its epic fail imo.
Anyway, i have had to do it, and i suppose the only good thing about it, is that i now only have to use my email address to access all their games from now on - if i bother to buy SC2 or Diablo 3 that is, along with a password obviously lol
PS. the blizzard authenticator is great way to secure your account!
