Excellent cant wait to hear feedback from people in the preview. Only heard about the game last week checked the webby and now im very excited about the features they are working on.
Well I can update my post because I've seen videos over the last day or so. I think the environments look okayish. The trees are quite nice, but there is some patchiness (best way I can think to describe it) in the land. The characters look as bad as I was thinking from the screenshots...worse even.
Where the original videos make the game really fall down for me is in the animations and, most of all, the audio. The video of the emotes made me gasp with horror, and the addition of horrific musical accompaniments was a road trip to hell. Who ever thought it would be a good idea to do that? This is a realistic sandbox game (menat to be)...where do they think the music comes from?
I always liked to think that I was a player who could get past graphics but maybe I've changed. I beta'd Fallen Earth and I was just about managing to get past the graphics until I witnessed the horrendous crafting system. Now I think Xsyon looks marginally better than Fallen Earth but are the mechanics of the game any good? If they were amazing I might be able to cope...and I mean first rate crafting mechanics with experimentation and everything. Thing is I don't think that is going to be the case after witnessing the road building.
I'd certainly have to wait to see a bear and a fox in action. If they look anything like the screenshots still then that would be a major no no for me. The fox looked like something out of Free Realms.
I don't get this move towards subscription based MMOs with early millenium graphics. Masthead are an independent studio and, so far as we have seen, their game (Earthrise) is looking lush and lovely. I'm also sure it won't take a home computer of the highest order to run. Looking at Xsyon it should run on a machine that runs Everquest (averagely).
Kudos on Notorius' hard work but if it contues to look like that it's going to need to be the most engrossing sandbox ever.
Oh dear, I just saw a combat video. I'm sorry Xsyon makers but that's goign to have to dramatically increase. It was two people with their arms in the air.
I hate to be so negative, but it's this that prompts improvement, yes?

Yeah man it's come to the point of me not even giving a shit about combat in these games.
I mean The skill systems are so good as long as I can target a player and actually hit them even if the combat takes 30+ seconds im happy early on.
IM sure they will do some optimization. But right now im not expecting much.
I voted that I'd play a while ago due to lack of better options. After watching some videos, I have to say the graphics are actually better than I expected. Still waiting to see the rate at which they turn on more features and the state said features are in before I decide to buy it, though. If I get a video with wildlife/mobs that shows decent animations and AI, and a report about the skill system that makes it sound sensible, I'm in.
From what I've seen so far, I'm actually quite confident that the game will turn out okay. With the lead programmer and game director being the same person, there is no reason why the game should stray from its creative vision. With what has been shown so far he has proven beyond a doubt that he is a talented programmer, and the feature list/back story/implementation plan speaks well for the creative vision. I don't have time to invest in every new MMO that comes out, though, so I'll wait until enough footage/information is available for me to be certain it's a game I actually want to play.
I really haven't seen enough to decide, I thought there would be more screens and vids out by now. Kinda bummed that there hasn't been more released by the community.
I will say graphics are usually the least of my worries when trying out a new game.

I don't think the graphics are bad,and most of the videos are made by players then the quality is not good.About emotes,I guess you'll be able to switch off/on.The main theme sounds pretty sweet for me.And terraforming works fine as well. For me it's a good job till now.
Graphics dont mean anything...AOC imba graphics and one of the worst games ever, Aion asian crap with nice graphics and the list goes on...
Fallen earth medium graphics tons of features and increasing improving, Darkfall same, these are seamless worlds with no loading screens...beautifull graphics means crappy instanced game with themepark 100%.
I do agree that the graphics are not from the top shelve but still its better then i expected. They are also way above my tolerance levels. Graphics aren't THAT important...
I only care if the features they avertised and promised are there and work. If they will be in this title might end up as a great sandbox game... I hope. Still i try not to hype myself out on this >.>
I've been uplinked and downloaded, I've been inputted and outsourced. I know the upside of downsizing, I know the downside of upgrading.
I'm a high-tech low-life. A cutting-edge, state-of-the-art, bi-coastal multi-tasker, and I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond.
I'm new-wave, but I'm old-school; and my inner child is outward-bound.
I'm a hot-wired, heat-seeking, warm-hearted cool customer; voice-activated and bio-degradable.
To me there's more important features than graphics. Good graphics are great, but they're not the end all be all of a MMO. Case in point is Wurm Online... graphics are HORRID but I loved the game for the sandbox features (I left because I consistantly dislike how Rolf manages the game).
I will not be playing Xsyon for one very personally important reason.... Open PvP and me just don't not mix well together.
Actually Open PvP does fine, I just always end up as a puddle in the dirt lol
Other than that I wish I would be playing Xsyon sometime in the future. The game is only starting up, many of the features are turned off until they can be tested, but after reading up on Xsyon I *think* this one might end up pretty good, if not great in fact.
Hope you guys and gals love it.

I used to think that graphics meant nothing if the gameplay was great. Seeing games like Aion and AoC come out with great graphics AND fun gameplay, I am starting to change my mind. I want good graphics and good gameplay to go with my community
Being an artist, its not so much the "graphics" that are important but rather the art direction. to me the gameplay seems somewhat interesting, though a bit contrived in certain aspects. but the art direction is absolutely horrible. character models looks odd and amatuerish, the environmental design is crude, meshes are very low poly in some places while higher in others where they dont need to be. Texture art are fine in some places while crap in others. there is a certain level of inconsistency with the art work and meshes. i find the art direction as a whole a bit uninspiring and boring. good gameplay or not, I think we have come to a point where you can have creative art direction and stylization and still have good gameplay. it all depends on the skills and creativity of the development team doing the game.

grahpics are fine for me. Honestly never cared for graphics, graphics always hold back what you can do in games due to putting too much resources into them. As long as they get the combat mechanics sorted out (which they are definitely working on) I'll be playing.
It seems strange to me that you would claim the terrain looks great then post a screenshot of very crappy terrain. Maybe you meant to post another screenshot? The fact that they have grass (one identical clump repeated), and the trees have branches and leaves is not a big deal in this day and age.
Originally posted by x3r0h Lets say the game comes out just as expected. Will you say no to this game based on graphics alone? Are graphics an important criterion for games for you?
Question is "will its price/fee be adequate to its graphics?".
I WILL play a game with bad graphics provided A) it has good gameplay its not priced same as an AAA+ with full-featured graphics.
Might want to look back to 2003, you're insulting most of the games that came out, lol. Not to say it's an important feature in an MMO. It's just that, even the MMO's that came out back then had better GFX, I'm thinking of SWG and L2.

The preorder pricing is better than most - $40 for the game and two months sub time. After that, they plan the normal $15 per month.
The terrain picture posted by Oakstead really, REALLY looks dated. Seriously, that looks 10+ years old. Graphics aren't everything, but that's really bad for 2010.

Man I didn't know we paid more for Aion and Aoc over games like WoW and EQ2.

Graphics doesnt matter much to me, but art direction/style does.
Thats one of the reasons im not interested in this game.
I think its been said there is no NDA

I've been out of MMOs for a couple of years, now, because they are all crap designed for kids.
This game, however, has brought me back here and will probably bring me back to MMOs.

.
The games graphics are old looking.
I would put them between Ryzoms and Fallen earth.
With that said don't judge a book by its cover folks this one could be really good over time.
