Xsyon Currently Very Unstable?

RohnRohn Member UncommonPosts: 3,730

Given this thread:

http://www.xsyon.com/forums/30-prelude-talk/13409-server-and-client-status

It appears that Notorious has been having a lot of difficulty in keeping Xsyon up and running over the last day or two.  This really doesn't bode well, given that many of the features haven't been turned on yet, and they've only allowed about 20 people access to the game (not exactly a stress test).

I hope they have the ability to make corrections to the problems they are having quickly.  It's very early in the beta process, but the game is supposed to launch within the next 45 days - not a lot of time.

Pre-order access, yes.  Amazing the things they don't want the general public to see, don't you think?  I can understand not letting everyone post on the forum, but not letting others see it...?

You are surprised a game company has what for all intents and purposes is the beta forums set as private?

Hey, at least you got that right - it's a pay-to-play closed beta, just with no NDA.

If there's no NDA, then why not show the "Technical Support" type forum to the general public, like just about every other game out there does on their forum?

its not pay to closed beta test. and u should know by now alot of games have part of their forums for logged in people only.if u read about it they even said before preorders that they where gonna slowly let people into the game from the start. they are doing their game like eve online. start small and grow.remember this is a indie game company not some mass produced watered down mmo company like cryptic. from what ive read everything that the devs said would be ingame is there. what game doesnt have server issues when it first opens. ive yet to play a game that doesnt have some type of server issues.

what other company  do u know of said we only letting so many people play so that those ho play have a good experence right from that start. most companys make a server to hodl say 3k peo0le and let 5k into the server making the game a bad experince to play while not even telling their people anything.

in alot of ways im hoping swtor fails so mmo makers wake up and see more than just the short term cash and look at the long term.companies like ccp and te one that makes FE come to be the norm again i hope

One part of having an open beta would be the stress test, that helps fine tune or even overhaul the servers to withstand people gaming all day and night. Now I do not know where the EvE start out small and grow larger fits in this case. You are basicly telling me that EvE first opened and would only let 50-100 people play their game, then let more people play when they let them. Or is it that EvE had a smaller following when they started then it grew larger over time?

If they do not expect to get over 5000 people during the summer (if they get more they will turn the purchase page off)  I do not see the point in not building up slowly over time.  The devs said they were going to build up gradually, so what would be the point in a huge open beta when they only want a few people to play?

It makes sense to me.  imageimage

That does make sense? To not stress test to know how much you can handle and thereby ostracize any others that would be willing to try your game by not allowing them to access the game or wait in a long queue?

That doesn't really cut it and though it might "make sense" its bad business.  I like the shift though, put your faith in the next indie with sandbox ideals until they burn you.  If they don't stress test their servers during beta, and the game only runs stable with 1K people, then thats not much of an MMO.  If you refuse to test during beta, then the only other time to test is after launch. How much fun will that be?

i didnt say they started by only letting few people in i said its similar. also not every company can afford a stress test. also the stablity problems isnt actualy due to number of people from what ive read on offical forums its more due to a bug.on sever bugs there diffent types only 2 types ive encountred on all the mmos ive playe are 1. where in certain areas if u crashed u would have to get a gm to move your charcter cause wouldnt let y log back in and 2 a area where the game wouldc keep crashing.

I suppose? Then again isn't that the same thing you were against people doing for MO?

Its is beta no fucking way is unstable, 99% of MMOs are unstable for the first 3-4 months are live, get over it. This is an indie game for an indie crowd, not the masses, dont like it, fuck off, dont whine and complain and try to get it changed.

Its not all about business, these guys make sense and are trying to make a game they will enjoy and that they think some others might as well, not trying to cater to the masses

Ohh...big surpsise and mmorpg first; a non-released product is less complete and stable than whats expected from a launched product.  Or a cake that is baking is less complete than one that has been taken out of the oven, ready to serve.

    Let the heads roll!!!

No doubt its an indie game. I can see it in every facet of the gameplay.  Unfortunately you can't play a game utilizing your "hopes" to run an engine when the game crashes.  If the game can't support 100 people in game, it may as well be a multiplayer game then an MMO.

99% of MMOs are NOT unstable at launch, in fact just a very small amount of MMOs are so unstable that they are unplayable at launch.  Deterring your player base by not allowing them in game is just as bad as letting them in to see how terrible it is.  If you aren't going to launch the game bug free, and you aren't going to let anyone who wants to try the game, try the game, then whats the point of launching other then forcing a select few players to buy the game to play a beta.

I guess the want for that truly is niche.

Like I have said before, you can't compare MO to Xsyon.  MO is being developed by UE modders and have no strategy, while these people have made an MMO before and have coding experience.

The problem with Mortal Online is that they lied about so many things, they try to show how "epic" it is, yet when you actually play it, its not even fun.  Many of the bugs have been there for months and they still have no clue how to fix them.  If you were there from block A, you will know how bad their developers are when they try to do anything.

Time will tell with Xsyon though, I am not putting much hope in it, I am just more enthusiastic about it getting good than MO.

PS - Xsyon actually has an installer and a professional FAST patcher!  MO didn't even have that for 6 months! image

PPS - I forgot to mention that this game is hosted in the USA, and I only have 60ms ping! image

You definitely can't compare MO to Xyson.  MO can support more than 20 players without crashing.

That is not what I hear from them postponing the game so many times, along with the desync issue and such. I would be surprised if they still have 20 people playing their servers.

Maybe there would be more respect for your opinion if you had the experience to know that claiming 99% of MMO's are stable at launch is a falsehood.  Just count backwards from STO and either getting stuck in an instance, not being able to join one at all, or having to deal with the server, um instabilities.  The same can be said for many other mmorpg's that pre-dated STO.

But, in defense, at the same time, to look towards any mmorpg and reference it's poor performance and instability and use it as a crutch to justify others poor performance and instabilty, is adolescent.
