Normally, I don't play MMORPGs solo, ever.
I find the solo game play to be very similar to counting grains of sand at the beach, or maybe watching clothes go around in a dryer. The quests dont' change the game world, and the combat is just whack whack whack.
So far, there isn't any game that's been released that I would say I'd play it offline ot max level. I'd be bored to tears, and this goes for my favorite MMORPGs like DaoC, EQ, or CoH.
However, I can say that although it's not released yet, and I haven't played it, TOR looks like I might actually want to play that game, if it was offline. I liked KOTOR, a single player game, and TOR looks like a great big KOTOR.
If that turns out the be the case, that it would be fun to play, EVEN OFFLINE, I believe it will be a smash hit.

I like the other guys thread that brought up the same point much better.

My heart feels warm knowing that Im having fun with the current mmos and Emotep isnt. It just brightens my day to no end.
If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.
This is based on another thread where someone proposed a game that let you level offline then move the character to an online constituant. Have a borderlands question though; is offline/online leveling progression and gear seperate?

If I got to play any of the MMORPG's with just one or two friends/family, then I'd play all of them offline or over a lan.
Singleplayer though? No thanks.
There aren't any MMOs I'd play offline because I want to play with people. If I wanted single player games there are plenty of them to choose from be it on the pc or the consoles. And I'm passing on The Old Republic because from what I can see they're going in a direction I have no iterest in. I see no reason to give them my money, but if you do then all the power to you.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
You sir, have hit the nail on the head.

My understanding was that thread was about joining a game at max level.
this way you don't have t level to play the end gmae, you play the end game right away.
The thread was not, that I understood, about if the online game would be fun to play offline.
For example, you would play WoW offline, to max level, then join the game online, so you could Raid.
Or you would play Darkfall, offline, to max skil level, then join the game so you could PvP.
My topic was about an MMORPG you have played, that you would consider playing offline all the way to max level.
If so, what is the name of that MMORPG?
No, you can play a chracter offline, make progress, then take the same chracter online, get gear, make levels, then go to the offline game make levels, get gear, switch badk and forth as much as you like.
Wait, so do the on/offline characters share levels and gear, or is it the copy of the offline ported to online - then kept seperate?

You have a character. It levels and collects gear.
It's the same character, online or offline.
Nothing is kept "seprate". there is no server for boderlands.
When you play borderlands, you are just hooking up to someone elses computer, P2P, peer to peer.
The game just reads your character stats and gear, just like if you were offline.
Online, offline, makes no difference, your character is your character.
there would be no where to keep a separate copy, since you're just connecting to someone's computer somewhere.
Anyone can start a server, or join a server, it's up to you.
It's just a co op game, that is peer to peer.
I mean, I suppose the game could have two seperate lists, a list of characters you play online, and a list of characters you play offline, but it doesn't.
There's just one list, characters. you pick one, and play it offline or online, whatever you want.
A tale in the desert, I always wanted to play it without other players progressing so far ) The game rocks
Ah k, I'd be interested to find out if "progression abuse" ever occurs in the PC version because of this though.

Yes of course. But is there any MMORPRG yo uwould play offline from level 1 to max?
I just don't know how it would be "abuse".
There's only co-op, nothing competitive. I mean there's an arena, where you can kill someone, and they fall down, then get back up, but that's it.
So, what would you be abusing exactly?
I mean you could hack your gear and stats to max. Ok, now what? Now you have a max stats and gear character, but there's no "end game" or anthying do do with it.
you just hacked to game over.
Once again, you don't get solo players. That's ok. It's ok to be different.
But if you think solo players play games solo because they don't want a robust living world then think again.
Additionally, just because you might think that mmo gameplay in a group makes that game play better doesn't mean that the same game play is worse without a group.
It's still killing mobs. To me there is no enjoyment difference if I'm working with a group or drawing from my level head and experience when I am forced to take on more than one mob solo.
The problem with posts (the many posts) like yours is that you just can't see it. You can't put yourself into the shoes of a solo player and can only evaluate the game from the eyes of someone who needs a group.
And given that we've had so many of these threads over the years it seems that no answer is good enough because you can only see through your glasses.
What does one need to do in order to convince you and yours that being a a living mmo world and taking the interactions with players as they come has its own benefit? I'm pretty sure that if I walked into your life I might roll my eyes at the things you do and how you socialize with people out of game. You might do the same if you walked into my life. Nothing wrong with that as people actually see and experience things differently.
So no, playing any mmo for me offline would not be fun. But playing any mmo solo amongst other players is fun.
do you get it now?

To reply to the thread's topic, I would have to say Guild Wars. Alternatively, "The World."

Like a teenager who had his prom date stolen, a player would end up abusing himself instead.
When you have online content that is best attempted at a max level gained offline, the first instinct for most players is to find a way to bypass that offline crap and get directly to PvP or w/e the hell is online. People are going to completely avoid the single player game simply because they can, and it's a design flaw for not allowing convergence between the two. That's why I keep bringing up "importing data". If you could just get online and handle it on and off, without modding the client in some way, then you have some purpose to it all. Otherwise it's just an inherant race to get to some mythical online pleasures no-man has ever known, and the only route is to grind out a single-player game as fast as possible, or to just say "f it" and configure it so you don't have to. Why bother having single-player at that point?

One big factor for me playing MMORPGs is that I can play with others. Otherwise, they would just be cheap RPGs with repeating content and boring grind (most of them). So no, I wouldn't enjoy playing any game offline from level one to max.
I would play Fallen Earth offline from 1 to max level. I think it might even allow the combat to be a bit more fun as I wouldn't have to deal with ping. Headshots would be slightly more reliable
LOTRO. Though for me its because of the IP. I love the client, wish they'd use it for something else. But with no meaningful pvp, no option to play antagonistic races/factions, and the storyline, it just feels more like an standalone rpg to me. Also, being a big fan of the IP, its kind of a downer to see heros running around everyhere. The Shire packed full of elves men dwarves. Armored mounted hobbits all over the place. Its just silly. For my preference I'd have liked the game to be standalone.
Would I be cheating if I said Guild Wars?
If so, I can't think of any MMORPG I would play offline. Most MMOs rely on the players to make the world feel alive. Without players, the game world just feels like an empty shell.
its nice to see ppl actually unable to understand OP's point hidden in his question.
Concerning me only mmorpg thatmaybe i could endure to play as single player style(solo) is DDO simply cause it has best character advancment system (dungeon and dragons based),one of the most skill challenging combat system ,its combat is quite fun too, its dungeons are simply the best comparing to any other mmorpg also.
As for the rest mmorpg's they lack so much in keeping u intrested in solo mode (unless u never played some really good and ethistic rpg's,and your taste in games smells so bad) that makesthem so boring to even try play em as single player rpg's( Yes Wow included).
