2. WOW is the "Windows" of the mmo world. There is no reason why it can't patch/update/expansion its way to immortality. It's too good, it's too big, it's gonna be here for your grandkids.
No. WoW is the Wordpad of the MMO genre.
It runs on any PC. It's prettier than the bare-bones Notepad, but not impressive. People who've only ever used Wordpad don't understand why there's a need for any other document program. Sure, it is accessible, popular, and will probably be around a long time. That doesn't make it great and it doesn't make innovation for better document programs unnecessary.
Once you've learned how to type, change fonts, use bullets, and play with colors... it's time to move on to a more complicated program. People will laugh at you if you go around sneering that other programs that also let you change fonts are just copying Wordpad.
One of the most annoying parts of hunting for a new MMO is reading the same "but but but WoW does....!" posts on forums for the umpteenth time. The influx of WoW players all expecting the new game be WoW in space, or WoW with Hobbits, or WoW with RvR is beyond grating. I hope they keep the WoW servers live forever so the fanboys can stay there.
