I signed. I love Vanguard, but I can't bring myself to play a game where there are no people and no chance, which they've stated, of an expansion or any decent work being done to it.
A small update here and there can't compare to a game that gets a ton of attention by devs, such as EQ2.
I wish they would rerelease it... even under another name or something. Make some changes, clean up some stuff, add MORE hairstyles (I beg, I plead -- some of them REALLY suck).
They need to do something because I truly believe that VG is just a gem, dying for some love.
With the talk going on here about Vanguard being unpopulated. Why do you all nto get together get on teh same server and start playing. I myself would not mind doing that. Right now I am playing EQ2 and love it but I am also looking into getting back to Age of Conan. Is Vanguard the way to go ? I am up for a plan to get onto a server and play vanguard. I am still looking for a MMO to hit the right spot. SO my three choices are currently playing EQ2 have a LV20 Paladin, Age of Conan LV 40ish Templar and Vanguard ? Help me out here !
Hey, I already sub, I'm on Seradon under Sovrath, Sovatha, and Sovath.
Though I play at such odd times that one may or may not catch me at any individual time.
hmmm, and come to think of it, Sovat
So if I'm on and people need help, I will.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Why should SOE lower funding for highly successful a product (Free Realms) and a moderately successful fan favorite (EQ2) only to throw money at an uproven product that has a terrible reputation and incredibly low subscriber numbers. Vanguard "might" be a good game with some serious funds behind it?
Vanguard is already a good game, the only thing it lacks is population and developers.
500,000 people didn't log into a game only to leave simply because of population issues. No, they left because the game was a buggy mess that chugged on NASA computers.
Completely true, and if the game were getting an expansion, or had some sort of big promotion, it could get those people back. They left due to bugs, not bad game design. That's far easier to fix.
I would sign it, but I can't push myself to do so, even though it will do no good regardless. The VG community has been mishandled so much, I'd say just end the suffering. Development learns from mistakes, the next game that has VG influence will be much better but with the summer just around the corner, god forbid on off-hours that all 4 servers hit 0 population on the same day.
It has been dying for how long now? do you believe everything you hear? or you want me to post you the list of heavy load servers or 80+ active member list of my guild?
Heavy load servers? Hah.. I play on AB which is the most heavily populated server and it only barely reaches medium at peak hours. Having 80+ active members isnt that big of a deal when you have 7 alts who are also guilded or like a lot of people I know, you run 2-4 accounts at once. Then again you could have done like some guilds did and as populations die down you merged with other guilds until you get to the point that your guild actually consists of 10 seperate guilds. Even if you had 80 active players all on at once playing a single account it doesnt mean much if theres only a few hundred people on the server.
Yes heavy load server, i am sorry but if you didn't see it doesn't mean it isn't true. Just last weekend Crusbone, AB and Nagfen all 3 were red (heavy) while 12 servers were on medium load and 3 servers on light. For an old game like EQ2 its darn good.
Also you need to read carefully, i said acive 80+ players on at one time, never said anything about alts. I just logged in and typed EQ2 IS DYING in the chat and it was hilarious to see the responses. A few hundred players on the server? hah... don't know what server you are on buddy.
But i guess its mandatory to make 'EQ2 is dying posts every 3 or 4 months'... maybe it gives a weird satisfaction to certain players?

Being a former VG player myself, whenever people from VG claim other games are dying...sometimes I have to look twice...if you know what I mean.

Here is a link to one of the guilds on Seradon with 2005 members. http://vgplayers.station.sony.com/guildsProfiles.vm?guildId=64424509452 by looking at this so far there are a couple from that guild that play. Actually there are quiet a few but not alot. If we can start something here to get Vanguard going that will give it a boost.
Well I think the point is, there won't be any more Vanguard inspired games. I think Vanguard was the last of its kind, for a while anyway. No one else with a big budget is going to attempt to make that deep and interesting a game, they'd rather shovel out WoW clones or half MMOs like SWTOR.

While it may seem that way, I for one just can't stand something being beat down. VG just simply needs a restart but we know that won't happen ever. Anything the players do will turn to deaf ears. People have to look at the history of VG (after launch) at all the attempts players have done to try to pump fuel into the game, it just doesn't work unless the company is with you hand in hand. SOE (due to business practices that we all understand) will not shelf out the support that VG needs to grow again.
It troubles me because you have VG that attracts at a slow rate highly enthusiastic individuals who want to see the game grow into a success but are shot down from not only SOE (due to it doing nothing), but from the surrounding bad press, and history of disappointment.
The fact about VG is that it proves that in today's world, for these mmos, it has been and always has been business ffirst, game second. VG just made it more visible and to many of us...if not all of us, its upsetting because its no secret what VG needs to get back on its feet. But due to the way business works (or the unwillingness of SOE), VG will never, repeat, never see the light it deserved. Like I said in my post before, the only thing I wish out of VG is that the developers who actually pumped in decent content (Avaram and Ikik) land better jobs and are actually taken seriously and to not dish out half-assed content. I can speak from personal experience with developer interaction for years with VG, there are those devs that killed it while others tried to help it. I'm sure you can figure out who.

While I can't say with absolute certainty, I expect 38 studios to make a game that favors gameplay that has similar qualities to Vanguard and EQ than what the market currently offers. Don't give up hope yet.
This game has vastly improved since it's premature launch in 2007. I really recommend SOE going the route Turbine did with DDO and relaunching it as a subscription/F2P hybrid. I know people are against F2P's but the fact of the matter is a hybrid model is ideal for a game that won't grow any other way.
It brought close to a million people to DDO this year, and more than doubled it's subscription rate. This information was made public by Turbine this year.
You know... I'm not a fan of Item Shops, but that is certainly the best and most honest way I've ever heard that presented - particularly in reference to DDO making that change - and, in that context, I could completely agree. If a game is limping along (as DDO was and Vanguard is) and a change in its payment model could help revive it so those playing it currently can have a more lively game, and it could bring more people to it who might not have tried it otherwise, then I say it's a great idea.
Vanguard is a huge game with a lot going for it... Its horrible launch and the BS surrounding it really did it an injustice. I think it deserves a good second look. Having played it at launch and played it a little while back, and I can personally vouch for the improvements they've made. The reason I didn't stick around? Same as many others... too few people to do anything with.
Will SOE go for it? Dunno... I have this hunch that they don't want anything taking the wind from EQ or EQ2 or the so-called "EQ Next".. But we'll see. More money for them is more money for them, and we've all seen how there's nothing they seemingly wouldn't do to get more of it from their players.

If sony will not do anything about then its up to the fans. I say make Fan sites and promote the game ourselves. This will show that fans care. I will sign your petition and will try to provide any help I can.

While I can definately give you an A for effort webbing but...this is all too familiar as many have come and gone down the promotion train...and most end with the same result...giving up. Just saying do what you do, just don't run around like you found a gold mine and no one knows about it. Just don't set yourself up for disappointment.

It does nto hurt to try. If anyone else is up for it I will be on Seradon and my Character name Quagsin. If it doesnt work out then I wil stick with either Age of Conan or Everquest 2.
Oh It doesn't hurt to try at all. It deserves a clap or 2. All I am saying is that you're not the only one and certainly won't be the last. Its just...VG has burned so many bridges its not even funny. Like right now its so slim picking to pull anyone into VG and keep them there, I'd say its a guesstimate of 1 in every 45 players would give it a try and 2 out of 10 of those that try will actually stay. Viral marketing is the only way VG will get some light...yet its also the same thing that's keeping it in the dark.

Talk about viral marketing. How the heck did you come up with those numbers?
