old mmo vet looking for a populated, GOOD game

scoopsscoops Member Posts: 3

hey yall

long time lurker, first time poster here.

i was curious if anyone could give me any input on any good mmos out there right now. i havent subbed to one for a long ass time, and eq2 was my last.

here are the mmos that i played, that i actually liked:

1. eq2- amazing pve, crappy pvp (imo), super fun, really well designed game, and awesome graphics (for its time), community, dungeons, endgame, etc.

2. war - loved the pvp. would have stuck with this one much longer if there was actually people still playing it. re-subbed to it about 5-6 months ago.

3. swg (pre-cu)- best mmo i ever played. period. pvp, community, pve, evertything. game took a major shit when the NGE came out, and since then i friggin hated it.

4. aoc- kick ass graphics, pvp, pve, loved the crazy ass gore. kind of like war, no people last time i subbed back 6-8 months ago. would still be playing if it had better community and/or people playing.

so thats pretty much it. i enjoy a good pve mmo if it comes around, but i LOVE GOOD pvp mmos as well. i would like to try a good pvp mmo before pve if possible tho.

so whats the news on the latest? star trek online any good? how about aion? i cant stand asian graphics in mmos, but i heard the pvp is worth it. hows the population on these games? also, i keep hearing about lotro... but starting brand new as a fresh player to the game, would i actually be able to find groups?

i wish i could answer that myself. i just started the lotro free trial yesterday to check out the graphics and such. as far as pvp goes aion was pretty good, but the grind was just so boring. flying and fighting was really fun, specially in the abyss, but i feelt they  needed to work on balancing. to my knowledge the best  of my knowledge, there are no really great pvp games out there atm. i would suggest trying aoc or aion if you want p2p. this is just my personal opinion.

I fear, I know your answer already, but here goes: Try EvE if PvP is important to you. I've nothing against PvP (Im too old and slow to be good at it) but in EvE my nerves played tricks on me everytime. Its brutal and it has consequenses.

Guild wars...Pvp, GvG, its still alive and kicking. The population is growing back again due to GW2 coming out soon, the pve (i.e. missions, quests) are fun and epic, and if u have trouble finding groups, guilds are easy as hell to find and they are very friendly to the point as running you through most of the content. Plus u dont have to pay monthly fees... i dunno i just jumped back in after a long time and im having fun just farming and chatting with peeps....just my opinion...

I believe that spec was trounced thoroughly later on.

I have to say that if you liked Conan and Warhammer you should give them another go.

For conan find out which server is the most populated as it seems to have had a resurgence. Especially with the x-pac coming up.

Warhammer seems to have a lot of people in T1, decent amount in T2, T3 seemed dead and T4 had a lot of people. I have a character in T4 and there always seemed to be something going on. Also, they just released the changes in city sieges were I believe are now all pvp.

No people in AoC? last time I played 18days ago there was nice amount of players, resubbing now back. There have been lots of server merges or something so theres more people on the servers? Not 100% sure though.

I would avoid lotro if PvP is important.  Also, if you want to be taken seriously, you should avoid derogatory slurs as well.

If f2p is fine, I've heard good things about Aika.  Your need for non asian graphics is going to severely limit your options.  Maybe find a good PvE game and play League of Legends for PvP action?

From what I've read both AOC and WAR have gotten their act together and between recent updates and server merges both have decently high populations so you might want to give them another go.

Judging from the games you've listed I'm pretty sure EVE isn't for you unless you're tired of the same ol' thing and looking for something different.

I'm playing AOC right now and there are a lot of people in tortage right now with more and more resubbing every day. I'm on the Wiccana a pve server we have a very active raiding community and the pvp is ramping up as well. If pvp is you thing than I hear Cimmeria is a very good pvp server with some good guilds.

I tried EVE for the 2 week trial and while it wasn't for me, too much idle time waiting to get places. If you are into the PVP thing there is no better pvp game anywhere. While I don't have a lot of exp with eve is seem to be the one game where you really have to work with and against people and suffer the consequences of those chooses.

Nothing, nada, zip, zero, ziltch. Been there, done that. Not to be a negative Nancy, but in my opinion there are no 'good' MMOs out there. I keep waiting, and I keep trying new ones, but so far it's very disappointing.

Im an old UO vet from the 97 days.  Played UO, AC Darktide, Shadowbane, EQ1, Darkfall and some others.

Im playing Entropia Universe now.   The PvP leaves something to be desired, but the depth of the game is absolutely ridiculous.   People can say what they want to about the payment model.  I have mixed feelings, and wish it were something else to be honest. But it is what it is... and in some ways that adds to the game.

Very deep crafting system.  Very deep skill system.  This is not a game you will be a winner at overnight.  It literally takes years to progress far.

silkroad is always a top in the free to play world

dragon oat get 1 server so game is always packed .simple game but loved the fact theres always player around

some other title like eq2 are barren in some area with make those feel more like an offline game then an actual mmo!

Well right now i just resubbed to Vanguard Saga of Hereos, I also play EQ2 and Age of Conan. All of these are good games. EQ2 and 1 have there uniqness: they have rare items that still have not been found which i like because it makes you feel liek an accomplishment. The game world is huge this goes for both vanguard. I also love age fo conan because the game play is diferent in combat I have a templar on there LV 41 just came back after two years. I tell AOC is has fixed there bugs and is running smoothly on my machine. Vanguard is really fun to play also as there is no zoning and the world is enormous. I would try EQ2 im on the Bazzar there or Vanguard in on Sendora. Age of conan if you like a different combat system. Im in to raiding as why I am into these games. Still trying to see which one will hit the sweet spot right. Vanguard does not all the numbers on but when I logged in a saw 4-5 peopel in the beggining area which was good for me. You can easliy find a guild and see who is online and send them a tell.

Eq2 is not really Empty in on the bazaar and I found a guild and they have been helping me out. Sure in the beggining area there are hardly anyone around i still see a few running and doing quests and they even helped out. In all its a friendly communtiy which is made up of older players who have expirence from prior EQ.

For the most part, what you say is true, but it is not the same trying to beg max level players to help ou,they are always in a rush and not really enjoying the xperience anymore after doing the same quests 50x over.To fully enjoy a game you need a static group of like players all noobs or whatever, then you can all enjoy the game as it is meant to be played.A max level player helping a level 20 quest is ridiculous, you can all stand back and he can solo the thing, not much fun like that.SOE did the scaling back real bad for mentoring,an eighty scaled back to 20 will be more like a 30+.

Yes correct helping lower ones might be boring. The guy that has been helping me out enjoys it and doesnt mind. Voice chat in game helps alot when grouping which is a plus. I went from lv 15 to 20 in about 1 hour. You can still find groups just a little harder. I get your point

    hey yall.

    thanks for all the input.

i think i might go back to either eq2 or maybe even vanguard or aoc. lol i still havent made up my mind...

i remember playing vanguard and really enjoying it. the game was soooo well done. the only problem: when i did a server search on all the players in-game at 7pm cst just a few days after launch, the results were terrible... less than 400 people lol.

i always hated how annoying it was how hard it was to find other people to play with... wonder what its like now.
