I have no idea tbh, but I wouldn't pay those numbers attention. The only one that's important is the average population on each server currently during primetime, that number alone is what gets folks.

Unfortunately that number has been going down steadily.  There are several posts in this forum where subscribed players did some counts over the last year or so.   About 2 years ago the lowest populated server was around 1100.  About a year ago the most populated was around 1,000.  Now it is what, a few hundred?

The spirit of these player initiated movements are great, but honestly how many times can a game have players rally to revive a product a company no longer cares about?  Lets say you do get 10k players to join, which would be a massive unheard of success.  It still would not be enough for soe to rethink their strategy with this game.  It is never going to grow to the size that soe sees as a success.  They are aiming for games with millions of players and dominating the market.

Soe gave up on this title before it wa even released and nothing is going to change that.

You are right about that. I have been playing the game and its good. Well in all then they should just get rid of it like they did with the Matrix online. Failures for Sony tells you something that the games they have dont have that push except for eq1 and 2 those games I love. Now I have to choose between EQ2 or Age of Conan. Lets see what happens in vanguard also.

I really don't think SOE cares one way or the other whether the game lives or dies anymore. I tried to resub last year but had a billing issue where I they double charged my card when I made a accoun. The CS was unwilling to resolve it by refunding one of he payments insisting he would give me game time credit instead. I was still on the newbie island and was unsure whether I would even find the game worth two months subscription so I had my credit card company do a charge back. I immediatly canceled my account afer 2 days, never made it off the newbie island so I might have found a good guild on the mainland and still be playing if not for the arrogance of the customer service rep.

At that time I did see a half dozen otehr peiople on the newbie island so it was not entirely deserted,

    I miss DAoC

Why should he? It's clear that SoE doesn't have any intention of furthering the game, or building on the amazing foundation. There's a reason static regular games don't charge a monthly fee.

Doesn't matter how amazing Vanguard is, without the social aspect, and without the updates, your monthly fee is a waste in an MMO.

It's really sad, because SoE promised a huge rerelease campaign when the trial island came out (the island that ironically gives a horrible representation of what the game is like), but it never happened.

Screw it, I'm resubscribing to Vanguard this summer with two of my friends. I don't care if no one else is around.

Well, tha'ts one way to look at it.

For me, I'm a very in the moment type of person. Or at least try to be. So i log in and enjoy myself completely. Otherwise what I"m playing for is "tomorrow" and I don't know what the heck I'll be doing tomorrow. I can't look at any game as a future investment. I can only look at it as an investment in my current need for amusement. Nothing more.

I find the game fun and it is completely worth my sub. But sure, I understand that some people need to have loads of people playing the game of their choice. And I could never legitimatley argue someone out of that. How could I? Preference is preference. And why would I?

But given that my own proclivities in music and theater among other things has made me used to going to concerts with a max of 10 people in the audience, I"m used to being part of a niche group of people who like a certain thing.

In any event I still play it and will keep the sub until they close it. Whether that's tomorrow or next week or next year or "whenever".

Oh no, I understand that. I play for the short term too, but that article was written 2 years ago. He's likely done almost all he can do with his guild, and there's nothing left. No more people around to interact with, and no new content.

yeah, that's why I was wondering if he still played as it was written 2 years ago. I mean, it seems unlikely.

And since there is not tons of new content (though it seems that they are still adding stuff) I could easily see someone doing it all and being done.

I tend to view these games more like worlds so I'm not one to rush to do all content. I tend to just meander around the world finding adventure. Heck, I'm pretty sure that for the most part I will miss most of the content any of these games has to offer.

Honestly, no I don't play anymore. I wrote the article. Since then we've bounced many games and now that I run the site I (ironically) don't have much time to play games as much. Vanguard will always be the game that should have been to me, however. Had Sony only handled it properly and given it the money it needed it would have been the end-all-be-all.

Ive always wondered why someone/ some studio doesnt buy this game from SoE before it dies and give it the attention it deserves. It should wildly sucessful if it gets the attention/love it deserves.

  • I want to play this game so bad, but as an eu player its very very hard. Last time I logged into halgar it was pretty lonely, and playing on a us server with better population is not better due to my timezone. What to dooo?

I have a few subs to a few games.  While VG is certainly not the most populous I just don't have any problems.  In fact in some spots in VG I find more people running around than I do on my LOTRO account.  I recently resubbed and started over.  Every night I play I get groups for the HL quests.
