STARGATE MMORPG?

Ok, am I crazy or does anyone else think that Stargate would make an awesome MMORPG? I think that it would be interesting and may draw in people who don't watch either of their shows (SG-1 and Atlantis).
Give me a holla if you guys think this would be a great idea.....Peace!!::::20::

I would prefer Bab 5 over many titles as well, Stargate could be nice but...Bab 5 start ahead!  D&D should link all their world to Sigil and have everything accessible rather then just Oberron, well, after a few expension at least...would be could to see the ambiance darken if you say Lady of Pain once, and you died if you say it twice as she pop!  image

I tossed this idea at Pann with NCSoft at the last Auto Assault dev chat lol.

SG is perfectly set up in a way that could be made into an MMO for every playstyle IMO. We can hope!

SG MMO would be cool but I think its gonna have the same problems as most other ideas like this. Star Gate works in teams, not solo. SG1 is the designation of Star Gate team 1 not 1 person. As soon as they develope a game that says "in order to go through the Star Gate you must be in a Team of 3+ people, the game will flop.

Most games are seeing more and more people wanna solo. While I would love a SG MMO I just dont think this is gonna happen.

Now of course they could always bend the rule and send single people on missions but thats not the way star gate works and why play a game thats not going to be what we are used to seeing?

    Anyways, just my oppinion.

    I like the concept.

One person cannot go thru the Stargate by themselves ... huh, wha?

This is a really interesting development but it needs a lot of expansion before it'll make sense. I mean, can you just see 100+ people standing in the gate room waiting to dial out from Earth?

The only thing I could really thing of would be to place it in the future, so that there are 2 or 3 relatively "safe" colony planets other than Earth to start on.

That or make it like a less massive Diablo/Morrowind game, more instanced. Then you and some friends would play a planet map/objective or player designed ones.

They have had several offworld posts in the series, so they can easily have them in the game to alleviate everyone being in one place to start.

As far as instancing, going thru the SG gives a dev co the perfect reason to have it IMO.

Been a while since i saw that show but it sounds like a very good idea, getting access to new worlds and all... it could be a interesting game.

Love it.  A Stargate MMORPG sure gets my vote.
  • ZykeZyke Member Posts: 335

If a star gate mmorpg was made I would die of happiness.

The main problem I could see is playing as a tar'ea would be very difficult, since you really can't leave the SGC. The main thing I could see to solve that problem is base all Earth aligned players out of the Alpha site.

But, hell yea! SG mmorpg would be amazing :)

Tabula Rasa already involves going through gates that instantly teleport you to far off worlds/locations. Its pretty much the same concept.

That wouldnt by chance be the same Pann from CCP/EVE-Online? She was cool :::'(::

Yeah SG would be a great theme for a mmorpg "imo" ::::02:: as would Bab5.... such a shame theres such a lack of Sci-Fi mmorpgs ::::05:: they have so much more to offer than EQ clone anfter EQ clone.....

Not only is that blasphemy, but it is so wrong. Stargate isn't all about the Stargate. If that's what you think, you obviously have never seen the show.

aslong as we can be the Guo'Ald i am up for it! sounds fantastic!!!, but i do think it would be a dissapointment like all other games with good backing (I.E SWG..)

Just check it out,its gonna be under JoWood header..there cant be nothing good from this ::::15::

But back to the topic.Yeah i would like SG mmo but it will have some difficulties as Kjarl already pointed out some.Another problem can be with Guo'Alds and Tokras(spelling?)as you cant walk around the earth and also especially Tokras have very thin numbers....it would be weird to see 2 times more tokras around than humans ::::01::

Babylon5 is another great series and its mmo would be interesting too but...lets end dreaming folks.Even if they find good team (thats best case) for this idea(b5 or sg)to work on this mmorpg, as they will grow new folks come and they will want do things this another way, than in beta or a community as whole (as i dont think that there will be only fans)can contribute to that, that it will be no longer "SG" but another crappy game which only have big name...::::16::

Nah but we can always hope folks so lets do this! ::::02::

I'm definitely all for this! :D I'm a huge Stargate fan. In the years that the show has been on I've rarely missed an episode.

    I'm hopeless, I tell you!

You could easily make a MMOG out of this, and the starting location or races wouldn't really be a problem. Just use your imagination.

For one, there's no reason why new players would be limited to SGC. They could start there, or the Alpha site, or Atlantis. Each location would have its own "newbie zones" of sorts with their own unique critters, ruins, and various other bits to explore.

Additional races would be somewhat easy to do even if you did not allow players to be Tok'ra or Go'oul or however the hell you spell those. lol. Anyhow, the SG teams have met with a number of different races, including tribal humanoids. You could use those races as playable characters if they needed to prohibit the Asgard, Tok'ra, and the snake heads from being playable charas.

One could also start as a Jafaa and allowing either faction to be playable would provide a fair deal to go on just for those two. First, you have the faction who think of the snakes as their gods, and then you have the rebellion faction. Each would have unique quests, from attempting to free more Jafaa to aiding in the assault of an off world town (aka, instanced raid dungeon) "to prepare it for the arrival of your god".

Atlantis would use puddle jumpers to transport the characters between the city and the main land. Undiscovered areas of atlantis would provide instanced raid content for groups of various levels, or newbies and advanced characters alike could visit the main land to discover some of the dangers there.

Tayla's people could also be a playable race, preferring to live on the land instead of Atlantis, and they would have tribal abilities instead of the technological ones that Atlantis characters would have.

Goodness people, use your imaginations! This is a great idea and there's not nearly as many hangups as some here would think. I could go on, and on, and on about this...

... :D I'm having way too much fun with this.
