Just received an email of the April Alganon newsletter that I thought I would share with anyone interested. As I've stated before, I'm having fun with the game and it looks like it will be improving by the end of April. Hopefully it is okay to post this here...
We're gearing everything up for the official release of Alganon later this month. In this issue of the newsletter we're laying out the details of the new features coming soon as well information about our new Double Dip Trial, the new website and refund and referral information etc. We've got a lot going on and hope you'll join us for the offical launch coming in late April.
Our new Tribute Market will be debuting in the official release of Alganon. Tribute is a new form of currency in the world of Alganon. You'll be able to purchase Boons to help increase study times or purchase items such as vanity pets, mounts, potions and elixirs, boxed item-sets and individual items.
There are new starter areas which introduce you to the lore of Alganon and show you some of the deities "in person" as you start the game. Asharr will start at the Temple of Argon while their counterparts the Kujix will be starting in the Temple of Xukiss.
World Instances are also coming in the official release of Alganon. They will allow parties of brave adventurers to tackle advanced content with challenging boss encounters and exciting new loot! So, new quests to complete, new places to explore and new creatures to test the mettle of players of every level.
We've been working very hard at resolving issues and improving the over all look and feel of the game. This release will also have a whole new UI which gives Alganon its own unique identity. We have completely re-done the artwork and overhauled the user interface to provide a more unique and distinct feel for Alganon. More work will come post-release, but you will be pleased with this first pass.
Our character creation system has also received a major upgrade. Players will now be guided through an on-screen wizard to aid in the creation of new characters. This new system provides plenty of descriptions to aid you in making decisions during the creation process.
Also added are brand new NPC navigation and pathfinding system for the non-player characters (NPCs) in Alganon. The network transport layer has been revamped, the load times have been decreased and various optimization and additional gameplay enhancements have been added.
A varied collection of dungeon instances have been unlocked, allowing for players of all levels to explore previously unseen areas of the world and discover the secrets (and the dangers) that lie within.
Starter areas for both the Asharr and Kujix have been completely redesigned and now offer a much more complete and unique starter experience for new and old players alike. Alganon continues to offer a great new and growing true persistent fantasy world for gamers to enjoy.
For full details visit the new Features page on Alganon.
To go along with our new UI we're redesigning the Alganon website to provide a new look and feel which closely resembles the look of the new in-game user interface. We're adding several great new community features on the front page, a Server Status monitor, a Recent Level Ups section that will track the community in real-time and show recent progress made by our players and a Characters section that will announce to the world whenever a new character is created on any of the live servers.
The new website will greatly enhance the user experience by adding a new, easy-to-use navigation system that will allow visitors to the site to find the information they are looking for immediately.
There is also great new functionality that will been added to the MyAlganon site and players will be able to purchase Tribute and items from the market through the online Tribute Market System.
Refer a friend to Alganon and when your friend purchases the client you will have 500 Tribute added to your account! You will be able to refer your friends to Alganon through the myalganon.com website. Offer available only to players who have purchased Alganon.
We are at the start of April, and there has been quite a bit going on here at Quest Online as we get ready for the official launch of Alganon later this month. Behind the scenes we've been working on a special deal that is unheard of in the MMO industry. We appreciate you as a customer, and our goal is for you to have a great experience with us. One that's so great that you will tell your friends and family about us and have them join you in the game world of Alganon. So we're offering you a FULL refund for your pre-paid subscription once Alganon is officially released. Simply email a copy of your receipt or contact us with your order number, MyAlganon name and the last four digits of the card you used at refunds@qol.com.
Not wanting to restrict new people from taking the time to explore Alganon, we have created a new Double Dip Trial system. So you can get two great scoops of Alganon game play, one week in the current game system and an additional week once the official launch happens. This grants players the opportunity to see the game before and after. If you haven't tried Alganon, don't wait any longer click here to sign-up and start your adventure today.

I got the same email. lot of hype, no substance, and at this point the only improvement the game can make is to remove Dr. Smart from the game before his forum war causes any more losses.
Definitely not gonna let myself get too excited. Maybe just a little hope...
Well I sent in my information to the refunds@qol.com and it didn't kick back so maybe when the game has it's relaunch I'll see a $719.40 credit to my account.
Didn't have a receipt (snaffu in the billing system back in October 2009) or order number but a Lead CSGM over there at QOL was kind enough to give an ol' fart a hand up on what I needed to do. Still the best CS I have seen in any game I've tested or played (and those have been many).
So all you sorry lot out there waiting for some cha-ching back...... put in the paperwork.
Cheers - perhaps it will happen after all.
(See some of ya in Aerrevan Beta)
Just Me,
Tim
If rainbows only come out in the rain then I would like it to rain at least once a day.
Nice changes, but they could offer 6 months free and a bonus steak and I still wouldn't go near this thing with Smart associated with it.
Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

I love it, even when a good update comes, people have something to say about it negatively. If some of you thought Allen was doing something, then you were fooled. The tribute system wasn't even halfway done before Allen left and was almost about to be yanked from the game. I'm not going to show proof, you can either believe me or not. And the UI was totally revamped, not just fixed like Allen was doing. Allen wanted this game to be a "WoW" game, and the investors wanted it differently. Allen was about to destroy this company, and the only thing people can talk about is how big of a mouth Derek Smart has. Yeah, he may be an upfront guy. But he does get stuff done, and that's what this game needed. From what I read, things seem to be going good and if this update comes, it could be a small turnaround for a game about to be placed in the junk pile. To be brutally honest, I'd rather have Derek Smart at the helm then Allen. David ALlen is thee worst CEO I've ever had the pleasure to meet in person, and loves the double talk. Derek Smart, while rather chatty kathy, atleast has some business sense. He may not be someone you want as a neighbor, but atleast he's not in hiding. So in a sense, yes Derek has done things, hes got the ball rolling, whereas it was about to stop. Is that not enough?
This game may even end up benefiting from having such a small, quiet launch before what we can call this official release comes out. Whereas games like Vanguard and AoC (which I played and enjoyed) had at least a moderate amount of hype for them at release, Alganon really didn't have much at all. So when those games released and everyone bought them, a lot of people were disappointed and left before the game could really realize it's full potential. Alganon, on the other hand, hasn't really gotten started yet in terms of subscriber numbers, so it's good that may still have a playerbase to acquire.
Honestly, my issues at this point are with Dr. Smart, not the game. I liked the game. I thought it had a lot of potential, the lore was deep, and there was so much they could have done. I've been keeping an eye on the game, popping in every now and again, seeing if things were fixed. They announced the new pricing model, and I reinstalled the game, eager to see where it would go.
Then Dr. Smart took over. Honestly, I had no idea who he was. None. Hell, I didn't care, figured anyone was better, as long as shit got done. And then the forum bullying started. The last straw for me was when he came to this site and started posting angry comments, rude rebuttals, and getting people banned. Frankly, I'm deeply concerned that the man is spending way too much time on the forums and being an angry teenager then being a smart business man. Obviously he subscribes to the "no such thing as bad publicity" school of though, but I have been just offended by some of the crap he's done, and worse, that the threads get deleted so there is no record of his harassing comments.
At this point in time, the game could be the second coming of WoW/UO/EQ, and I wouldn't go anywhere near it til Dr. Smart had left the team.
Bingo. The name escaped me when it was first announced, but the second I saw his picture and people started talking about him, I immediately remembered him and an ultra smug interview with him from when he was working on some space sim or something several years back and kept referring to himself as gods gift to gaming. Then when the game didn't do well he went on a childish temper tantrum like he always does and started banning people and cursing them out. He effectively destroyed his reputation in the industry a long time ago. He could be at the helm of the best game of all time, and I wouldn't play it if for no other reason than to never be associated with him.

They need to burn all the documents and coding to this game, throw it into a cement truck, make a large tombstone that says "Alganon: RIP due to stupidity", let the 3 people still supporting this game mourn it, and then launch it into the sun.
Congratulations. Thanks to you, the carbonation in Coke is burning my nostrils as I write this.
You for got to add "Tie Derek Smart to an anthill and cover him with honey so he'll finally serve a useful purpose and can say he actually succeeded at something without people laughing at him.".
-Letting Derek Smart work on your game is like letting Osama bin Laden work in the White House. Something will burn.-
