To be honest, I never saw the point of these events and go out of my way to avoid them. It sounds like lagfest RP crap, and no offense to those who enjoy it but stuff like a temporary title is pretty worthless to me. Your screenshots don't really dissuade me from that point of view.
Then yesterday someone said "yeah, I made 99 merits in like 45 minutes." See now that I can see the value in. They don't really mention that part though.

I recently beefed up my computer and I didn't have an ounce of lag.
Just out of curiousity what are you running. I have a 2.67GHz quad core, with 9 gigs of ddr3 with a terrabyte of memory and a 4870 ATI with a gig of memory and I could barely move.
Now I'm thinking my internet connection is not so hot but I still want to max my rig as much as possible to reduce lag.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.

That's more than enough machine. It depends on your settings. Next time you're in the game type
/showfps 1
That will make the frames per second indicator come on in the upper right of the screen. Check what it says in different places and it will give an indication if you are pushing too hard. You want FPS of at least 30, 60 is a common target. If your FPS is below that, adjust the settings. Also pay attention to ATI-specific information, as the game is developed on nVidia hardware and always works a little better there.

Really good screenshots but the music was awful.
Yea, sorry about that.
I wanted to get the video out fast, so I just used some in-game boombox music I had on my hard drive.

(/showfps 0 turns it off again)
