The Agency: Covert Ops Facebook Game Announced

Things have been fairly quiet for Sony Online Entertainment's espionage themed MMOG The Agency for awhile now, but today SOE has decided to blow the cover on their super-secret The Agency Facebook game called Covert Ops.

If you're eagerly looking forward to the release of The Agency you might want to check out Covert Ops. Covert Ops features robust character customization, several classes and a character progression system, a slick interface and cool soundtrack, mini-games, a whole host of missions (and group missions!), the use of Operatives, a marketplace, the ability to customize your headquarters in a very The Sims-like fashion, and even a little bit of crafting!

Don't take our word for it, click the image above or go here to check out the full Covert Ops trailer, or if you just want to get started head on over to the game's official website.

I have to admit, I normally avoid Facebook games like the plague, but this one's piqued my interest and so far its been a decent bit of fun. Have you tried Covert Ops yet? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

It's a really good game. Probably one of th ebetter Social Media games out there. It's to get you interested in The Agency before it is released. A pretty good idea really.

Agree with J1.... it's silly to disregard the marketing power Facebook offers.  Considering how many millions of people use Facebook daily, this game will likely create a bit of buzz about The Agency amongst non-traditional MMO venues.

All FB games I have seen are just cynical crap engineered to seperate the gullible from their money through drip fed MT.

    Is this RMT as well?

I have come to loathe FB far too deeply to even go and look.

It is a micro transaction game like most games, plays similiar to Mafia Wars but looks more interesting visually.

Still, like most social games, its purely achievement driven and is actually quite boring to play.

I'm going to try it out before I talk crap about it. Maybe it won't suck.

Maybe they will have some info hidden in the FB game about when the actual game will be released.

Visually nice, but a total borefest and a major cash grab.  The entire concept of the game feels more like having an excuse to charge people money than it feels like a game made to be entertaining.   The bulk of the gameplay revolves around clicking 1 button that might as well be labeled "Next" as it eats away at your available playtime.

I don't think this was made with the intention of marketing the mmo, but rather become some facebook success on its own.  You can barely click on a button without the game trying to advertise itself or push you towards buying something.

There is no such thing as a really good game on Facebook!  Go find a f2p to play if you are that hard up!

Agree on most of the above, it does look vastly superior to a lot of FB games, and some of the missions are quite cleverly done (if hellaciously easy). It suffers from wanting into your wallet from the get-go, but then all FB games suffer from that.

As something to fiddle around with when bored or to pass a bit of time, it's not bad. But logging in every 12 hours to see what new weapon I can have? No way. Seems like every facebook game has this thing where you "have" to log in every x number if hours, and that always puts me off, that and the in-yer-face RMT.

I'll never see this game because it exists only on facebook.

People who join facebook deserve what they're getting (and going to get).

    Willingly 1984ing themselves...
