PARIS, France – May 5, 2010 - Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. announced today that its Battle.net® gaming service will integrate with Facebook®, linking the world's premier online gaming platform with the world's most popular social platform. The first step in the integration will enable StarCraft® II: Wings of Liberty™ players to quickly add Blizzard gamers who are friends on Facebook to their Battle.net friend lists, facilitating their social gaming experience on the service.
"We're pleased to be working with Facebook to integrate their platform with Battle.net to enhance the social-entertainment experience for our players," said Paul Sams, chief operating officer of Blizzard Entertainment. "This new functionality will make it easier than ever to connect with friends on Battle.net and play StarCraft II and future Blizzard Entertainment games together."
The new Facebook functionality in Battle.net will be tested in the near future via the ongoing StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty beta test and will be available to all StarCraft II players when the game ships later this year. Information about other Facebook-related features on Battle.net will be announced at a later date.

That's nice for some people. I don't use facebook/myspace/twitter but I do think Battle.net having more community features is great. I hope they do a lot with guilds/clans and cross-game communication.
Well for me, this will work since we all knew that Facebook became a social network that people can share get in touch... and as a player, this is another routine in facebook that I will always get updated...
i ll get rid of my facebook then!wow isnt secure enough aned neither is facebook so screw this im getting rid of facebook!
I just turned off the "share with other software" option in facebook. You just have to be careful of what privacy settings you have on.
Great!! Now I'll get even more flooded with my FB friend's achievements! Bad enough I have to see them getting gold medals for accomplishing Just Cause 2 on easy mode.
Steam is the world's premier online gaming platform, not Battle.net.
No dance studio we promised a few years back, but hey! your achievements in WoW will now show up on your facebook!
Xondar - I just bet that Battle.net (with its monumentally huge South Korean user base) has more users than Steam, which is primarily a North American network.

Now I know why MMORPGs have gotten progressively worse since the first gens. It's not longer a scene for hardcore rpg nerds, it's a scene for popular hip socialites.

Now that's why battle, net is delay...

I just deleted my account from facebook:

Let's just hope they don't require a facebook account for battle.net, or plan on it. Really trying to avoid this thing, no I do NOT want to plow your field... thanks.
Played in some form:

This disturbs me a bit.
Every time I log into battle.net, my spam box is flooded for days with spoofed e-mails from gold farmers/sellers telling me my account is being investigated and I need to sign in at "x" link. I always forward them to Blizz's "hacks" address for the mt o deal with, but it still is annoying and it tells me that there is a serious security problem with battle.net.
Likewise, we all know that Facebook has serious security issues. In fact, just this week there was a bug that allowed people to view their friends' chats and pending friend requests that forced Facebook to shut down chat and push out a bug fix quickly. That's without even getting into the other issues that Facebook has regarding security. *shudder*
Two massive companies, both with even more massive security holes that you could fly an entire fleet of Death Stars through does not sound like a good idea at all to me.

Maybe MMO is not your genre, go play Modern Warfare...or something you can be all twitchy...and rank up all night. This is seriously getting tired. -Ranyr
Steam is much more of a distribution system. It has gaming aspects. Battle.net is a gaming platform.
yeah i smell accounts getting hacked left and right... they will have your full name and where you live yeah make it easy for them to take your hard work,. smart....
lol I don't think you've ever used steam. I've used both and they are the same thing with Steam being much much better at doing all the things battle.net does and more.
Facebook is just a marketing tool, how do you think farmville became so popular. People advertise what they're playing and if Blizzard make it clear where you can buy and download online, then they'll get sales out of it.
I've downloaded a few games from it. Never played on it<shrug> I've played for years on bnet. (D2 mainly). To each their own.
Why, because it's not cool now?

The greatest decision made ever!
There goes your credability out the window.
I don't believe many actually USE bnet, it's just simply required to log into some blizzard games.
bnet was great back in the day. I still remember playing SC1 and Diablo over dial-up. Fun times
steam does not host online games or server.. battle.net does. big difference. the only thing steam does is have a friend list and chat option. it also distributes games as mentiontioned. I wouldn't be suprised if you could steam Diablo 3 when it comes out.
(exe of steam not host= cod:mw2 IWNET is equivalent to battle.net)
