First off, I don't know squat about this game and I don't care either, but I found this article on massively quite entertaining...

They really didn't think that would go unnoticed did they? =D
(This is from one of the earliest press releases on TOR back in 2008)

Copypasta is healthy, so, sure, why not?
Whats the big deal they copied wow for the game so it only stand to reason they would copy the press releases of other companys.
Not an origional thought in the entire company
Copy a little bit here, copy a little bit there. If they keep going they could have a blockbuster on their hands, lol.
The best part is is Derek's response, which can be seen here: http://www.massively.com/profile/3915551/
Apparently he just found out about it. Which is funny, because we've been talking about it for over a week: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/3523653#3523653
Now, where did I put that popcorn?
Wow, something can both be really funny and really sad at the same time.
I mean MMO companies use to steal each others ideas but it is getting silly now.
lol wow, this is just bad!
March on! - Lets Invade Pekopon
copycat roger that over and out
Hilarious.
I wonder if Derek's defense to this is 'stay in school, you coulnd't possibly understand what we do, we are a professional games developer'.
That is honestly one of the funniest/saddest things I've seen in a while. Kudos, Alganon, you can't even come up with an original press release.
And to think, this game/company had so much potential a year ago.
Well to be fair, it seems those 'traditional' elements have been thrown around a fair bit by different people as well, though they didn't copy it word for word, or at least made some relevant additions.
I have not been able to confirm that John Smedley has used the terms before in 2004 like Smart and some other guy said however.

Traditionally, massively multiplier online games have been about three basic gameplay pillars – combat, exploration and character progression. In Alganon, in addition to these we've added the fourth pillar to the equation; Copy and Paste.
That really gave me a laugh
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Was this not a topic we talked about on April 30?. I like Derek's response on Massively. And to think he believes his act will save the game or from the investors kicking his ass to the curb.
We thought David Allen did a bad job being in charge of Alganon. Oh dear god we were so very wrong. Derek takes the DB award of the year.
A perfect example of why people feel mmos fail these days. We have developers like this to thank.
You would think with all the garbage surrounding this game at this point that they would make absolutely sure nothing happened to put even more egg on their face but no, lol.
This game has been a joke for some time now, but it's fate seems to be sealed with Mr. Smart at the helm.
Einherjar_LC says: WTB the true successor to UO or Asheron's Call pst!
Given the reputation I would guess they did copy from BioWare.
But there remains one other posibility:
Both companies copied it from their "How to make a press release" textbook, and that is why it looks so similar
Wow I wonder how much he got paid for that Copy/Paste butcher.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
What's bad, as well, is that they claim they're adding "story" as their fourth pillar. But, you know what? This game has less story than WoW, EQ2, etc., and it's presented in the same goddamn way as EVERY game has been doing (few exceptions) since WoW released...
It's just sooo bad. Really, why did they do it?
... ... ... :
These guys should really be trying harder given thier history... Maybe two different people wrote both of these and just happened to come to the same write-up, but given the serious and actual wow-clone nature of their first release its pretty hard to say its not copy/paste.
Its funny cause he is more entertaining than anything this crappy MMO has to offer.
