I am almost positive its going to be a Neverwinter nights MMO. In fact, I would be shocked its not based on the language I have read from some releases.

Since Cryptic has obviously given up attempting to RETAIN players... its obvious their new strategy is to release another re-skinned version of CO/STO every year or so to make money. They won't be making it off subscriptions after all...
*The more games they try and make, the more crap they WILL turn out,the sooner they will simply go away as a company. And they DO need to go away.....
*The amount of humor we get from watching those people who for whatever manner of personal defect, actually buy this "next" product from cryptic will be rather large. It will certainly be more entertaining than the product itself. And wont cost those of us smart enough to pass on the product a dime.Watching STO has been hillarious.
*We will get even further humor by watching all the ex-cryptic devs slither to other MMO dev companies, and watch how those companies try to pass their arrival off as a "good thing".
*We might even get lucky, and have some of the cryptic devs just move on to vocations they are better suited for, like politics, religion, used car sales, used appliance sales, walmart greeters,etc..,after this next bit of crap hits retail and fails miserably.
What makes me sad about this announcement is it's obvious Cryptic has hit upon a great business formula that completely screws over the players. Rush out half-baked MMOs based on famous IPs like Star Trek and hope that enough fans of said IP buy the game.
I can see a lot of developers following this trend unfortunately. The corporate suits know they can't beat WOW long-term, so they're more than willing to peddle tripe in order to make money in the first month or so after launch.
BTW, how the heck does Roper still have a job? It's been a long-time since he's done anything positive in terms of producing games.
Wow, I have a really different taste in games than you guys, because for me Champions Online is the best MMO I have played in years. I do find it strange that you all have the same opinions, almost as if you were just following each other instead of thinking for yourselves.
Your right we are we have been assimilated into the collective and all come to the conclusion that we really dislike cryptic and do not want them to destroy another IP.
Haha, well I know that at least in your case you played at least one of the games. What worries me is the folks who say things like "by all accounts their games have been terrible", or who bash Champions based on STO. If I go into an MMO having heard so many bad things, then I will probably give up before giving the game a chance (MMOs have a steep learning curve, especially the complex open build system with Champions).
The thing that makes me puke the most is that if this continues all the small developers like Cryptic will be forced out of producing MMOs, and I will quit the genre because nothing pukes me out more than WoW and ToR type games that play it safe using game design from 30 years ago so that they can appeal to a mass audience. Is that what you guys want? WoW and ToR? Because I promise that is what you are asking for, whether you know it or not. You should think about what all this torch-burning is going to get you in the end: mainstream games designed for TV-watching Facebook-using MTV-listening idiots.
Cryptic is a small developer, and at least with Champions they did several innovative things, like the open build system. I am so tired of classes, and so ToR makes me puke with their WoW classes. I want innovation, and to have that we need small developers. You guys are helping to make sure that only the largest and most watered down mainstream games get produced in the future. You aren't accomplishing anything good at all.
I'm sorry, but I take offense at this. I have played every Cryptic MMO and it is my opinion that they innovate much less than other developers. If they really did innovate, why do all of their games play exactly like each other. They all feel like the same game and people are just getting tired of re-hashed game mechanics.
This company will have pumped out three generic and highly mediocre MMOs in the same amount of time that it took Bioware to develop ONE game. Why? Because they aren't putting anywhere near the amount of time and energy into the product to make it a quality and polished game. They apparently only care about initial box sales or they would never have released EITHER CO or STO in the states they were in at release...
Cryptic games have been horribly lacking in depth and content and, to top it all off, they as a company have used deplorable business tactics in their P2P + lifetime sub + cash shop payment schemes. No other company has been so greedy and released such unfinished games in recent history.
There was a time that I thought Cryptic stood for quality... I truly loved City of Heroes at first. But those days are long since past.
Until Cryptic can show us that they can make a quality MMO without crapping on it then we might just might give them a look and play their games. Until that day i don't see that happening anytime soon or in the next five years.
Besides i was glad they sold City of Heroes to NCSoft, hell they did a better job with that IP than cryptic did.

What do you like about it specifically? The heavy instancing? The piss-poor animations? The repetative quests? The lack of group dynamics? The meaningless instanced PVP with countless severe imbalances? The fact that only a few spec options are worth having and most of them are virtually useless?
Please, do tell.
As for this new game, count me in with the Horde. I've never seen a company so blatently and shamelessly rip off players by putting out incomplete and poor products.
Well I don't blame the devs they have to do what the assholes upstares are telling them to do. The best devs will soon join another non crappy studio. Cryptics model is flawed they don't make enough money and thats a good thing. There games, support and quality is utterly crap.
I've read a good article about this community sometime ago (lost the link damnit), even analysts stated that there games aren't worth a P2P model. At best F2P with the c-store I just hope they aren't allowed to ruin NVM.
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play." "Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."

Heavy instancing? come on guys, that sillyness has got to stop. its not that big of a deal either way its a load screen stop acting like its communism.
poor animations? I personally dont care about animations.
repetiative quests? isnt that 99% of the MMO market?
group dynamics? could you be more vauge...
meaningless instanced pvp...... what?
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

spending as much time on the boards over a few years as well as some 20+ years of game playing has enabled me to sniff out general bullsh*t without even playing the game. I think there is even a scientific term for it now believe it or not just cant think of it. namely the skill to determine that if someone names instancing as the first issue they have with a game that everything that follows is usually pure crap. Its a load screen people its not the second coming of satan.

Even if someone who has played the game since release (me ofcourse) has no credibility in your eyes. Why? because you are here just to hate. So what if i say that the guy can not be any more vague when he said whats wrong with CO? i mean i can copy paste those lines in almost all the MMOS and haters would pat my back. CO has improved so much by leap and bounds since release and all you guys are moaning about is outdated information.

I'll bite
What I like about CO as of right now is the following
Fast paced action RPG combat
Character costumization
Community
One world that can handle low - high populations due to instancing
Visuals
The way they embrace the cheesiness
Open build system (which it is actually rather difficult to not be viable in PvE IMO, I don't touch pvp much, and yes there are severe imbalances for PvP but I'm not a hardcore PvPer in general)
Unique abilities and the animations ( IMO the animations are excellent and fluid, especially when your playing at a solid 60fps which brings me to my other point)
Performance (it is highly stable, an I very rarely DC and I still get a solid 60fps with a ton of people around)
Communication (the devs have really opened up as of late)
Nemesis System and Nemcon!
Extreme soloability (normally I'm a forced grouping kind of guy but i went into this wanting to just play casually and solo most of the time)

Heavy instancing is not just load times. It is a seperation of the gaming world from others. Just load times would be zones, like in EQ. Everyone would still be in the same zone eg Noobland, but with instancing, it would be Noobland1,2,3,4,5,6 etc. Go to a dungeon, well, you get your own. No major interactions, dynamics.
Heavy instancing breaks immersion for me at least, which is a game breaker. Even ignoring all the other crap in the game, it would be ruined for me with heavy instancing. I can tolerate some, because sometimes it just seems to work.
As for the other stuff, poor animations vary for each person. If you're swinging a sword and looks like you have to take a crap, you might not like seeing yourself swing a sword all day long.
Repetitive quests, probably is most of the market, which outside of WoW, people seem not to enjoy too much. I personally can't stand quest based MMOs. I don't mind quests, especially epic ones, but most "quests" are menial tasks these days.
Group dynamics is just that. Not very vague. The interaction between group members, buffers, debuffers, cc, dps, heals, tanks, needing each other to survive and propser.
Meaningless instanced pvp. Thought that was very obvious. Something of import such as the rvr of daoc, giving benefit to your side. Thats just my personal favorite, but there are plenty of other mechanics than just enter queue, fight a scenario, rinse and repeat.

Angry and me, over videogames? ahahah..no dude thats not me. There are lots of games i personally dislike, if i was angry i would have avatar like yours and i would spend every single day of my life hating over a company, repeating same three lines over and over again. Now you can say you disagreed initially but it doesn't change the fact that the guy you were supporting couldn't be any more vague.
And considering you never even played CO, make this whole argument even more interesting lol!

Well for one i was not supporting the guy if he was vauge that is his problem and i guess yours but not mine. as far as the guy i answered he never played the game so how could he answer positevly or negativly that is trolling and i dont care if it is support of the game or against the game if you never played it you should not comment on gameplay about it.
Comment all you want on how much you like the company or hate it but dont try to tell people gameplay mechanic when you have never experienced the gameplay. and if you cant see that well any respect i might have had for you as a supporter or opposer just went flying out the window.
the difference between me and you is i respect all opinions i may not agree with them but i respect the right that everyone is welcome to their views and i try not to drag players into my beef with a company--you see my beef is with the company not the individual player. You on the other hand seem to think that everyone who has a beef with the game should automatically be labeled a hater and their opinions should become null and void. That is the difference between us and have a nice day.
EDIT: Please take a look at the name of the thread name before you say i am posting in the wrong thread
You saying that you respect opinions of all players whether they agree with your opinion or not is the biggest load of crap i have ever read on these forums. i guess my eyes were playing tricks on me when i read your posts insulting almost anyone who had anything positive to say about STO? love the way you change your tone betaboo.

you are way to angry of a person to talk to have a nice day shastra and i will not be answering anymore of your posts. and you might want to look up some of my posts to make sure you are taking out your anger at the right person-my beef is with the company not the players.

You should really think about stating you have no direct knowledge of what someone is talking about and then turning right around and calling them out as wrong when you don't even know yourself (as you stated), I'm sure that works at home with your wife as she doesn't see it as important enough to argue with you over it but here man we atleast expect you to know what you are talking about if you want to spout off about it.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Darth time:
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!(!)
Nice to see they are putting that CO and STO money to good use by developing a new hacked up MMO instead of fleshing out the other 2.
WoW seriously? Here we GOOOO!!!
"I'm not cheap I'm incredibly subconsciously financially optimized"
"The worst part of censorship is ------------------"
Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play."
"Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."
I have never even played the game and I can tell your questions are a bit bullsh*t.
Please do not respond to me
If you have never played the game how can you contradict people when you have never experienced it?
spending as much time on the boards over a few years as well as some 20+ years of game playing has enabled me to sniff out general bullsh*t without even playing the game. I think there is even a scientific term for it now believe it or not just cant think of it. namely the skill to determine that if someone names instancing as the first issue they have with a game that everything that follows is usually pure crap. Its a load screen people its not the second coming of satan.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
Please do not respond to me
Play the game then come defend or attack if you have done neither you are just a troll out to start trouble. Know how i figured that out it is my 20+ years of experience game playing that helped me figure it out.
Extreme soloability (normally I'm a forced grouping kind of guy but i went into this wanting to just play casually and solo most of the time)
Last but not least the game is just FUN
My My you are an angry person arent you? I never said you had no credibility i just said i disagree with you. their is a difference you know or in your anger cant you see that?
EDIT: FYI i haven never played CO and if you look at my posts(which you seem to follow) you would see i have never said a word about CO--I wont comment negativly on something i have never played.
Preorder hype, lots of useless fluff on offer depending on where you buy it from.
Lifetime subs (limited time only!) priced slightly higher than what the mugs...I mean customers paid for STO.
6 month sub options at launch.
Great character customisation.
Heavily instanced, 1 server, multiple shards.
Hobbled running animations, combat coparitive to wading through treacle
Lots of nice but ultimately meaningless skill choices and power options
Shiny graphics using lots of bright colours, cartoony feel to the UI
Mock comic sans text.
Little interation with other players
3 weeks of content...if youre lucky
Bugs.
More bugs.
Horrible imbalances.
Dreadful limited pvp.
Performance of 25fps on high end systems.
Lots of hype interviews about whats coming up or going to happen soon (tm)
Bill Roper interviews, mentioning Diablo (did you know he worked on it?)
Cash shop filled to the brim with stuff players should be getting for free
Nickle and diming
More nickle and diming
Content updates with 90% of it in the cash shop.
Sound about right?
You should really think about stating you have no direct knowledge of what someone is talking about and then turning right around and calling them out as wrong when you don't even know yourself (as you stated), I'm sure that works at home with your wife as she doesn't see it as important enough to argue with you over it but here man we atleast expect you to know what you are talking about if you want to spout off about it.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
