Well then ... I see Cryptic management clearly acted on customer resentment.
^^ Horse = STO customers, Yellow dude = Cryptic riding the customer for all they're worth.
So both KDF and Fed characters can fly the agt galaxy?
Maybe they'll make an alternate timeline where the kdf actually becomes the federation. There's really not much difference in how they play in pve from what I've seen and they share the same philosophy at least according to cryptic. The info about it being available to both factions was on the atari support page posted by dstahl.
Just shows that Craptic not only have zero respect for their customers as can be seen with the R5F gig but don't even respect the Star Trek licience itself.
Those forums are a MAD HOUSE right now, like running into the mall on Black Friday. It's a consumer e-riot.
Not for long they are moving and deleting thread they find in any way offensive or that have any type of negative remarks about the game. new people are coming and it would be unseemly for them to have any type of negative influeces--Wonder if they will ban everybody?

isnt that what they did when things got really bad towards the end of the first month, just shut them down?
why not shut them down till monday so the "new" players cant see whats going on. but of course how are they going to police people inside the game?
IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME
I was over on the forums and for a second I thought I had logged into my garbage email account. "if you buy STO, Ill give you one million EC" or something like it all over the forums. Some players have problems with but apparently not cryptic. Their explanation this is not different than giving an ingame friend EC. That's fine but when it's given with the ulterior motive of obtaining an ingame bonus for yourself while requiring another person to pay for it is questionable.
And randomly, you will still get ppl who defend the game and deny that the company is trying to grab as much cash from ppl as is humanly possible.

LOL. Funny enough, I did play on a f2p server that required you to pay money to talk in global. It actually was pretty nice not seeing barrens type chat everywhere.

The trend I am starting to see is that a company simply will not host a forum at all. Vanguard, just to give an example, was like that.
That is when you can really start worrying when all the game companies start doing that crap.

Out of curiosity, how many other MMO besides Vanguard haven't had forums? I consider Vanguard a special case as you had five boneheads in charge making some horrible decisions, including the decision to rely on fan websites instead of hosting a complete website like most games.

EVE does something very similar. There are people that will buy time cards with in game money. There are many folks who have been playing the game for years and dont actually pay a dime per month to play. Same concept. Heck even cryptic was kind of shocked to see that but they acknowledged that it is valid.

3 total but every single one of them ended up putting in offical message boards. I think vanguard may have lasted the longest without an offical message board and it took sony buying them to get one.

I think its more a trend that was tried but abandoned due to lack of damage control options. Imagine if there was no offical STO forums and wannabe customers came here to seek info on the game, don't think many would go through with a purchase lol.

I just checked the general discussion and theres topics from early 07.
Warhammer did not have forums at release and DAoC still does not have an offical mythic forum.
You obviously didnt read the actual post. Vanguard has forums NOW, but they didnt before sony bought them.
Yep; when the game launch, Vanguard's devs stated they were going to run forums and instead were going to rely on fansite forums. That changed as soon as SOE took over.

The Craptic dev's posting's shows a complete lack of business savy for sure but I still reckon having no offical forums would be much worse for their company revenue wise.
Another amazing idea from Cryptic it seems... So, not only will a person need to get 5 people to pay for the game, all 5 of them must subscribe after a month..?.....
In all honesty, I just dont see that happening. But hey, if they have the money to waste on it, then more power to them! They will get to enjoy that ship!
Just another food for thought. I am a lifetimer, I got to play as a reclaimed borg which in its own right has a couple powers that are not available to others. Was that wrong for cryptic to do? Would I mind if they made reclaimed borg a player race? Nope, not at all. Would others? maybe, maybe not. I didnt buy my lifetime subscription for extra perks. I bought it for the love of the game and what it will be like down the road.
To me its pretty simple. You dont like the cstore, dont use it. You dont like someone getting something that you cant get, well, get 5 people to join or pay it yourself, then you can get it. The point is, its all about choice. you either do or you dont. there is no need for all this bashing of the company simply because they choose to try and make money. You guys are complaining about silly stuff in my opinion.
I am a Lifer too .... but i cant honestly defend the game like you are doing! I have accepted my loss and am willing to be called out on it...as being taken!
Why! Wecause i luv Star Trek.... and Cryptic Hyped it up enough to sell it to me... then when i saw the mess ..in Open beta ... i thought wait lets see what happens at release as games always have that extra content at release! Oh ...no but 2 of feb nothing changed then i read about the 45days Patch that will solve all the content issues! .... Oh wait ...but if i decide to wait for 45 days i loose the ablity to get a refund.... so i ingnore the forum rants and i quits ..and join the ranks of its comming in the 45 day patch....!!!!
Oh... 45day patch came ..... and ..went ..(52 days).... But dont worry ..STF's are comming right and more content in season 1...RIGHT! ..... and so we all wait for the SEASON 1 .... RIGHT .....WRONG! ... same thing happens..!
This is a Pathetic game and Cryptic just strings clients along..to keep Subs comming in.... and in all hounesty they have added Jack shit ...to this game in 3 months .... except..3 missions which are so pathetic.... that it makes me sick ..! But i spent the $300 and got my Borg... toon ...which helps me alot ..considering i now have sweet nothing to do in game... !
So I QUIT ....
I was thinking the same as you and it didn't help matters with Zinc overselling the 45 day patch. So in hindsight you can say Cryptic completely unloaded their colons when giving birth to STO.
I like this one comment by a poster in the STO forums, "Season 1 was like urinating in the ocean hoping the water level rises."
Seems like season 2 is started to be hyped up as season one was if not more. Id be surprised if they produce more than 1/3 of what they promised then spread out the rest over the next 6 months or so. Why do people seem to assume people leaving are going to come back? After the first underwhelming welcome back weekend, most people I know have written off STO.
Why do people seem to assume people leaving are going to come back?
Well, it has been said that a lot of the STO players still playing are new to MMOs. If that is true, then they just don't know any better.

The new rumor now is cryptic is producing Hogwart's Online. Really? I guess Harry Potter has a lot of appeal for some people but I never made it through the first 30 minutes or so of any of the movies without falling asleep.

Wasn't Turbine supposed to do it? Maybe not it seems. I guess nobody has faith in IP based games so good ole Cryptic gets their shot at it.
It will be eerily like CO with some different things thrown in to offset it I'm betting. It probably should be more like Hello Kitty Online to appease the kids on a social level.
Ivan from Cryptic marketing says a whole lot starting on page 4 for those who have not seen this. He won't even admit to at least walking a fine line in regards to the state of the game and how they are marketing it.

Players will only be able to access one room inside Hogwarts at launch, and that will be 4 or 5 times larger than it should be. Students at Hogwarts will level by mercilessly killing small animals. When questioned about the blatent inaccuracies, Cryptic will reassure their customers by telling them they don't get it.
If the rumour is true at least this time around they won't be ruining a franchise i actually like and care about. And hey if they make Hogwarts Online, at least the Cthulhu mythos is safe from their incompetence for a couple more years.
