Starting to lose faith...

AlbytapsAlbytaps Member Posts: 208

Is this normal?  I'm a big fan of SE but after a series of unfortunate events I'm starting to lose faith.  FFXIII was a big disappointment.  This game had huge hype and they made it bleh.  FFXIV alpha leaked info sucked the life right outta me.  If one thing they have to do is not make the battle system boring.  Now they are saying they meant to change the battle system from the ground up since the beginning?  Well I hope they can just swap it out and get going because they are not finishing FFXIV this year!

Darn it all to hell!

At least you don't go in thinking this game is the second coming of Christ.

Since like it seems you already had similar thoughts in mind, its good you got sent back to planet earth.

I dont think its fair to weigh the success of XIV on the your opinions of  XIII. First of all theyre completely different genres and have different staffs. As far as I can tell the battle system seems a bit more controlled then XI but along the same premis that every fantasy mmorpg Ive played uses in some way. I have a good feeling it will come out this year. The current alpha phase its being used to test some gameplay mechanics but doesnt include optimized systems/graphics and all the massive amounts of content. Well know come E3 hopefully.

I know/understand about your worry with this game. I worry as well because I love the FF series and I really want the game to be good.

Supposedly the new combat system has already been built and will be ready for use when beta begins. So it should (I hope) not cause much if any of a delay in release.

Then compare it to FFXI and you got what your going to get. Square is not good at mmo's and I bet you a dozen cookies that if it comes out this year you will spend a ton of time doing updates online cause you will be debugging what they did not get done.

Most new large updates on ffxi where at least 2 or 3 more down times for updates to fix the problems that we all found.

FFXIV done this year ? maybe so.. but it will be like ffxi you will be doing there work

While I give you credit for not going down the fanboy route, how can you lose faith in something that's not even out yet and based on the performance of a previous title?

If that were true, I would have never played another SoE title -- ever -- and missed out on a couple of really enjoyable games.

My biggest worry is that the game will run on consoles and it's going to be designed as such.  Slow combat and shoddy controls just like FFXI to accomodate console players.  You can have a really deep and meaningful game like FFXI, but if the combat doesn't feel like it's well paced I'm going to get bored quickly and move.  I know that's just a matter of opinion and a few people like the slow paced combat and menu-driven controls, but I'm willing to bet that's why FFXI didn't catch as many subscribers as WoW (that and it takes significantly longer to level and rewards aren't dished out constantly).

I realize they are revamping the battle system since from the leaked videos they got a lot of complaints, so I'm with the OP where we need to hope the new system is something that is going to keep the player engaged rather than the slow (seemingly mindless) droning pace of the previous system.

You can lack faith in something and still try it out and be pleasantly suprised.  By your comment I would have assumed you lack faith in SoE, but had it renewed (or at least enjoyed) titles later from them.

    Yeah, that's what you're getting...

2~3 maintenances every 3+ months, aside from that servers are up 24/7 without any lag issues...

    Sounds horrible, absolutely horrible.

FF XIII was worse than meh. It was horrible. But i don't really think it should be a sig of what were going to get here.
