I don't know if this is the right forum for a technical question. I didn't see a special "Tech Forum" listing anywhere else.
I played AC from the day it was released. I loved it for 4 years straight. Then we got DSL. Wham, can't play it anymore. The game gets to the update vials, then never connects. I've read every technical form I could find, and been to every forum I could find. Everything says to open ports.
Well, if the firewall is off on your computer, and you turn the firewall off on your DSL modem, shouldn't that, in turn, open every port in existance? Whenever I get into my modem's setup, I end up screwing up the internet connection for everyone.
I don't know diddly about networks. I'm real decent at computers, but when it comes to configuring networks I really could use my hand held.
If anyone could help me out, or tell me where I need to post this topic to get help, please do. I'd be greatful. World of Warcraft is boring me to death. I need my Asheron's Call.

Well, I don't think it would be easy to hold your hand. I think you should read up on how to open ports using various online guides.
One piece of advice though. You could try running the setup utility for AC and setting the port to automatic rather than always using port 9000. Sometimes it can find the open port it needs by itself.
Thanks for the reply. One of the first things I tried was Automatic Port detection on AC's setup. It didn't work =(
So I'll keep looking around for ways to open ports. I can open one port at a time, but AC wants over 100 ports ranging from one integer to another. I need to be able to open hundreds of ports and it's impossible with Windows' port open-thingee. I'll keep looking, though. Thank you.
Call your ISP and have them open whatever ports are necessary. It might not be firewalled on your end, but rather, the ISPs end (which I personally HATE when they do that.)

A lot of people play over DSL and cable so I imagine it is probably something fairly easy to do.
