The second space sim doesn't look too bad graphic wise. Albeit not great either. The cellshaded looking game looks neat. Somehow UTish.

Nice list. I'll check some of them out=)

Warsow is already on the list. I'm not sure if you're talking about Open Arena or Q3: Team Arena (same game with a different skin actually). I thought Paintball was a Half-Life mod and not a stand alone.

I'll be adding Alien Arena though...

    GL Tron

    Frets on Fire

    Scorched 3D

    TORCS

    Combat Simulator Project

OpenArena is the same *gameplay*, but it use a modified Quake3 engine, the ioQuake3 engine (the same as Tremulous and others Q3 based games )

It also use new medias.  It was started by CheapAlert, but he got kicked from the team by some disagrements.hehe.

Digital Paintball is started  by a jistspoe. Is a awesome game, his engine is a modified Q2 engine.

    Few suggestions from me:

Urban Terror -  Q3A mod previously, a standalone game now.

Quake Live - Quake 3 via browser (Open Beta at the moment).

Battlefield Heroes - A "Battlefield lite".

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory  - Objective based game, looks like a Return to Castle Wolfenstein mod, but it's standalone.

Great thread fellas. I've been bored out of my mind all morning and it looks like this is going to save me. I wish I could contribute a game but all of the ones I know of have been suggested.

I can't believe that no one mentioned this little gem.

    Cave Story

I linked to a fan site because the original site is in Japanese and the fan site has all the downloads with the translations and whatnot.

Edit: Also, Bonesaw is a pretty fun game.

    Mighty Jill Off

    La Mulana

    GeneRally

    Gravity Bone

    Karoshi Factory

    Knytt

    Survival Crisis Z

    Solar Vengeance

    Bonesaw

and that's all I have for this week.

    happy freeloading!

    Assault Cube

I didn't add this one to the original list since I felt that we had enough FPS games already....

... And I got this game confused with Urban Terror which I didn't really like very much.

At any rate, I downloaded this yesterday and have been playing it pretty much non-stop. It even runs on my netbook, so definitely check it out.

Another thread that was started (and locked as this thread exists) and has a rather extensive list of freeware games as well... http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/278176

The OP may copy and past their info directly here at a later date.

I love OpenArena. That is basically Quake 3 on Acid....Watch out, its like an ADULT VERSION of QUAKE 3! :)

  • Jimmy_ScytheJimmy_Scythe Member CommonPosts: 3,586

    I just found this one:

    Gate 88

It's like an RTS version of Sinistar. The most obvious comparison I can make is Herzog Zwei and that doesn't quite do this thing justice. You control a ship, Asteriods style, and you have to defend that big green thing with rings around it in the bottom left hand part of the screenshot. The twist is that you can build turrets and other structures like factories and research labs. After awhile you'll be able to upgrade your ship and order around other fighters and bombers in a quest to destroy your opponent's gate, which is red.

Seriously, this game rocks and, if you are any kind of gamer at all, you have to try this.
