Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

Please help with minor huge thing

Yeah, it seems so simple. All I want is my right mouse button to block. That is it. With that single change I can move past lvl 1 and actually enjoy this game I think... but as it is, if I am in combat I constantly push it habitually to block (thanks 300+ hrs oblivion) which, thanks to default camera settings I keep getting, is actually the hit me now button.

So please, if you know how I can actually map this key, lemme know.

Note- The ingame options do not seem to recognize the primary two mouse buttons, and all attempts to do so through the ddo have met with failure.

Blocking is not a very big part of DDO so its better for you to get used to the controls then chaing them imo.

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

... Sure would have been nice had you gone with 'this is how you do it, but...'

You should be able to change that (and any other key binds that youd like to change) from key bindings. Im not sure is it inside Options or just Esc -> Key Bindings, havent played DDO for a few months now, or have it installed on my computer atm.. Hopefully that would help you even a bit.

Oh, didnt see this one in the first place. Hmm, you better check the official DDO forums, there should be some information concerning this.

I recently had a go at D&DO unlimited, but quickly changed the controls do 'classic', attack with RMB and action on LMB, much more intuitive, also i have set button 4 on the mouse to block. It's all there under key mapping.

Sorry I'm not more specific, but a post in D&D's advice channel should get the solution to your problem in no time at all.

It's very usefull and used a lot by players that care about more than just DPS.

You can only bind the left and right mouse buttons in the Interaction section of the Key Mapping. Any other buttons on the mouse are fair game though.

you might try getting a mouse with two buttons on the side, they are normally not that expensive, and you can use those for misc stuff, I use them to trigger moves like sunder and trip. I'm sure you could set block to one of them.

So you are telling me the game engine is designed so that customizing primary mouse buttons can ONLY be applied to certain actions?

That is easily the stupidest 'feature' of any game I have ever played.

    Are you listening devs?

I doubt you are gonna reach a Turbine Dev on these boards. Try the DDO forums. Also it is not the stupidest feature. Blocking comes in handy rarely. DDO needs to work on that but right now shield blocking is of limited use in game.

And as soon as DPS is not what kills mobs I am sure shield blocking will be all the rage. DDOs problem is the best ACs are reached without the heaviest of armor or shield use. THis needs to change in DDO. A shielded and armored fighter should be the hardest to kill, not a monk splashed character. The problem is Turbine forces us to care about DPS, any player ignoring this is generally not helping his group as much as he thinks. Yes intim ans shielding up have their place, but generally their place is 2 raids and some trash not all.

Sword and board DPS is so low that there is nearly no situation in higher levels where a shield is truly a better choice then a second weapon right now. I want heavy armor and shields to grant either better AC or better damage reduction and actually bring defensive and tank style combat back into the game like it should be. Right now I am better off monk splashing and wearing a robe for high AC.
