Getting your friends to change!!!

Hey guys, looking for some advice.

Over 4 years ago I was still playing FPS type games example HL2 Source (CounterStrike) then came across the MMO genre by chance and purchased EQII and enjoyed the style of game and purchased World of Warcraft at the same time.  After visiting a friends hourse for some weekend gaming they all saw the 2 games and all went and picked up Warcraft from the local store and from that day till this we all still play the game. Around 6/7 of us.

I for one am sick to the back teeth of the game (but still sub and play) but this is were my delema is.  I like to play games with real life friends but none of them will switch from Warcraft. I get the excuses they have invested alot of time and know the game so well, yet they are all bored themselves and say so on many occasions.  Several of them have deleted all of their characters with the intention of stopping but after a small break they contact Blizzard who simply reinstate their characters, minus the kit of course.

I have purchased just about every MMO that is available to play, these are not limited to SWG, EVE, Vangaurd, AOC, WAR, D&D, LOTRO,  Linage II, to name a few. And if im honest I would like to play a few of those game to the end content, but I simply cannot play without my freinds so I end up re subbing to Warcraft after a small 30 day break after trying another MMO.

I need a way in which to convince them to get off Warcraft, they wont even bother downloading trial versions of other games, and these are not kids, these are working adults 30+ in age so you would think they have the will power and maturity to make sensible decision. They just seem to have excuses and pick faults with just about all other MMO's.

This almost seems like Readers Digest excert or a colum in the back of a local newspaper, but im thinking can other MMO's companies promote a way to drag people away from WOW. Why has this game got a hold of those individuals who don't like change!

Shoot!

    Dear Reader,

Difficult one. Firstly never delete characters, what’s the point?

As to the issue you are between a rock and a hard place. You could move on without your friends, it’s a tough decision but one you may have to make. Look at the other things you do with friends, do you all take part in all your friends’ activities? I personally try to avoid gaming with RL friends for just the sort of problem you are talking about now. You feel a reason to stay with a game/guild etc you do not want to be in.

But if you want to take some friends with you I would start by working out which MMO they would most like to go to. PvP fans might go for WAR, graphic fans for AoC and so on. Get your self at a decent level in that game. Work on one friend at first, get him over to your place let him see how good the game is. Let him have a go. Experiencing melee fighting in AOC or the story driven epic of LotR will make him think lets move there!

Good luck you will need it!

That game is a tough one to quit. It's really enjoyable.

I quit because I hardly have time for anything else. I just it just dawn to me suddenly that I just need to quit the game and get back a normal life.
