Hacked Account

So after having not played for a few months I decide to come back. But when I went to the armory to check my characters I found that I can't view their details except that they're in a guild I've never heard of and that they're the only guild members, and my battlenet password has been changed. So my account has almost certainly been hacked.

I really don't know what to do as I would like to have my characters back but blizzard support has been unresponsive.

Change your password back and contact blizz.  Will take a few days or so but they will do something. Got mine hacked and took a few days to get my stuff back. Run a viris scan too to see if it was a key loggerfrom a mod you might have had. not a free viris scanner either, theres reason they are free .

You'll get your account back.  Many of us have been there.  Just be sure to direct your anger in the right direction...the hackers, not Blizzard.

As it has been said, it might take a few days...but your account will be ok.

Since it sounds like you can't change your password, go to the battelnet web site and use their contact function and they will reset your password after you verify thru and email you get that you want to reset it due to being hacked. Getting in contact on the phone is a farce lately and due to being hacked twice and not getting hardly any customer service the last time made me quit the game and I will not be back.  Good luck

this also happend to me right after they merged with battlenet... I couldnt get into my account for almost 3 weeks... when I did get back, they eventually sent all my things back.. it placed a very bad taste in my mouth.. after years of play I left.. to make sure my account wasnt hacked again.. we did the key logger thing and also got that extra added protection you can buy ( my opinion  this was intentional on blizz's part) millions a these special key things  were sold.. anyway  after all a this  again I just could not get my feeling for theg ame back..   hope you get your things back...  and when they sent my things back?  they will be on  your first started character and then to thenext till all things  are back..  My guild was nice about it as many items were taken from the guild bank.. but still It left a huge bad taste in my mouth... anyway  good luck  Kwosh

That part in red is totally ridoculous.  Can you show us an analysis of the profits from selling that authenticator, vs the cost of manning complains created?

I have no comments about your views on WoW, but your ridiculous accusation or suspicion does make one wonder where you based you feelng on.

  • I too got hacked, but I called em instead apparently my account was sold to someone as there was credit card info on the account that was not mine, as soon as I got my account back and saw that I changed the info to mine and continued to play. I ended up having to cancel before my card was charged for the next month as I was moving due to a military duty station change, and now my account has been suspended because they said I didn't pay for the time that I played, and now have to send them a freakin money order or cashier check for like $13 before I can play again.

Not sure how it is my fault that they didn't charge my account as soon as I got my hacked account back, but oh well life goes on.

That is more likely a credit card bank issue,  some banks hold up first sub, just in case of disputes.

I sent blizzard support an email 3 days ago, no reply...

I've called their support line repeatedly but can't get through as they're dealing with a high volunme of calls, several days straight...

    Do they even care?

  • musicmannmusicmann Member UncommonPosts: 1,095

To be honest, even though Blizzard is not mainly at fault, they do share some responsiblity for so many hackers. Facts are facts, there's only a few things in all of WOW that people need so much gold for. If they would come up with a better system to obtain/earn those things other than gold, the hackers would quickly decline and this wouldn't be so much of a problem like it is now.

Nobody on this forum is gonna get your account back. Just call blizzard mon-fri from like 7am-8pm(US-West), and tell them you got back to the game and couldn't acces your account. They will ask your full name, secret question and what not.

The longest I've waited on the phone for a representative was like 7min.

Your account is a private business deal between you and Blizzard.  While some of us may be sympathetic, we can do nothing about it but provide lip services.  I have seen many cases of hacking, and have seen them resolved.  All I can say is, Blizzard seems to have a good reputation for fixing it.  Relax it will be restored.

More pressing concern for you, how do you plan to protect it, if you get it back.

You knew what you were doing. I think you intentionally mooched the remaining playing time from the previous credit card mix up knowing that you wouldn't resubscribe once you entered your credit card info. And then cancelled before the new payment cycle took effect, thus playing for a free before you had to move.

Then Blizzard flagged that both credit cards as a invalid payment options for future purchases. Open and shut case really.

I had problems accessing my inactive account recently. took them almost a week to get back to me. They fixed it up pretty quick once they did reply. Hang in there.

It's might take several weeks to get your account back, but you'll get it.  No need to send them 5 emails a day.  So be patient.  Hack accounts is at an epidemic rate, they can only do so much, a game will 11 millions players, if only 0.01% have problems that's 11,000 players to answer.

Very true, and for many banks, first installment of a sub usually takes longer to approve, meaning he got time to cancel, and time to play before cancellation.

My pal sells WoW back home, when he runs a shop.  I have talked to him and his customer before, about account recovery.

It does take more than 3 days. For such a large company, bureaucracy is necessary and everything goes by the book.  I remember one of the victims told me that he got a template to fill in, and he need to send a photocopy of his identity papers with a photo.  Did you get to that stage?

I vaguely remember something like a week to a few weeks before they got full restoration.  They will receive a partial restoration first, gear on the body and BoPs, so you can effectively play, and a small portion of gold lost. Full restoration comes later.

I think the gold seller hackers can get into Blizzard servers now.  They can force trials that have already been used to renew for their full time.

Call Blizzard, you should get it back same day. Your stuff might take a while if they stripped it already, but they should be able to turn over the account fairly quickly.

I had my account hacked recently (battle.net, but it had an old WoW account on it) and managed to turn it back over within less than 24 hours to their credit.

I do however agree with the growing concern due to the incredible rash of hacked accounts in the last few months that Blizzard has been compromised in some way. Yes, I know they have to report it if they know they have been compromised, but they might not be aware of it yet, or have all the information to make such an announcement at this time. I know in my case, as well as many others, there was no logical reason for the account getting compromised. I personally hadn't even accessed the account (and I'm not stupid enough to even look at phishing emails) in months, and it wasn't stored locally in my browser (autologin cookie) at all, so unless they somehow managed to skim the information via some infected flash ad or something months back and decided to just now get around to hacking it, theres no real reasoning behind it (password was decently long and alphnumeric, not something they would have guessed, and one would assume Blizzard would have protections against brute forcing an account login on a website).

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

That depends. Some times its only a few days. Others have said it can be up to two weeks.  It depends on how busy they are I suspect. One of the best things you can do is to lock your account down with an authenticator. That makes it much more difficult to hack.

My account got hacked also awhile back.  The emails I sent were slowly answered.  They were very helpful and everything went really smooth, once they got on it.

And sadly it is pretty necessary to get either the mobile authenticator or the keychain, as it seem ActiBlizz has no interest in dealing with security issues on their end.  I've seen more reports of hacking since the Bnet requirement than ever.  While it's entirely possible that the playerbase of WoW has grown more and more dumb over time, I doubt that it's the root cause.

Most people take security for granted until they get hacked. Way to many assume its BLizz's responsibility to fix things. One day, Blizz will not spend the money and time to restore accounts, players will only get a "care package" and a warnign thats its the players fault. Blizz has not done anything to weaken security, players do it themselves.
