Portable Gaming Devices, I need some advice.

I do a lot of traveling and would like to pick up a PSP or DS. I'm leaning towards a PSP, as I feel it has more of the games I would be into. I've noticed there are a bunch of different versions of the PSP out there. Any suggestion on which one is the best? How much of a battery life does it have? I am not concerned about price, just quality. Thanks.

PSP is quite expensive. But you can "unlock it" and than it turns into quite amazing gadget.
You can play emulator games (old snes, nes, arcade, amiga, spectrum, commodore, even Gameboy and PS1) thats like thousands of games. You can watch films , read books , lot of apps.
Ofcourse none of this is officialy supported, so its your own risk.
( its legal to do it. You just loose waranty on the PSP )
psp have more adult game
ds (next month ds 3d is released by the way)is more childish but they got lot of famly game(that are annoyingly addictive)
personnally i would wait for the nintendo ds 3d then buy that!
I personally have both, a PSP 3000 and a DS lite. I play my PSP more and it gets a good 4+ hours battery life with volume maxed out, I would like to say screen light too, but that might just be mistaking my PSP with the DS. The new PSP GO is a waste though, if you get a PSP do not get the go, the 3000 is nice though.
DO NOT BUY A PSP GO!!!!
You can pick up any of the older PSP versions used for aobut $100 though. Ditto for the DS.
It all really boils down to what kinds of games you like. The PSP is basically just a tiny PS2 and the games reflect that. The DS is very much it's own thing and it has all kinds of games that you won't find on any other console.
If you're into RPGs, then you can't go wrong with either one. Both systems have massive amounts of single player RPGs. If you're an action or sports gamer then you'll want the PSP. If you're into strategy or puzzle games then you'll want the DS. If you're into experimental games then the DS is the only system you need.
I own both systems and it's a toss up for me. I spend just as much time playing BlazeBlue on my PSP as I spend playing Age of Empires: Mythologies or Shiren: The Wanderer on my DS.
Thanks everyone. This is some good information. Sounds like I should stay clear of the PSP Go. I think the PSP will be the right choice for me with more adult games and all. But the Nintendo 3DS does sound tempting. I'm not sure how fun 3D gaming would actually be though.
They're both great for on the go. And you never have to buy any games for either of them ( both can be firmware hacked without voiding the warranty ).
DS has more game variety, PSP has better graphics. Both are internet capable, both have browsers ( the PSP is ahead in that ), both can be used as ebook readers, music/movie players, and more.
As far as RPGs, the DS is way ahead of PSP as far as titles.

PSP if you are going to hack it (buy the oldest version you can. It's a pain trying to hack a PSP 3000). Do not buy a PSP go, utterly useless.
If your going for the DS then there are loads of awesome games on it. I have both consoles and on the ds i currently have a ww2 strategy game (awesome), Pokemon (Childhood memories) and Zelda game (not perfect but it's still fun).
I suggest you look at the range on the DS, if you like what you see grab that, otherwise grab the PSP and hack it and fork out for some cheap UMD games (some are awesome).

-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
hard to say since nobody played 3ds,one thing is sure you have to be very close to the screen to get the 3d effect be it a ds or a tv as a rule of tum each inch of screen is the distance your view has to be(give or take)this is only for 3d
by the way i doont recommend hacking for simple reason if nobody pay for games they like it means the game will get worst and worst in quality.it wont change a thing anyway since soon hacked or not you will have to buy a licence of the game be it used or new ea started that but ubisoft is in the process of adopting that also since locking game is a bigger bother
wont be expensive but it will probably remove a big profit margin from ebgame use game(when they sell same game 10 time in the same month etc!
PSP definetly the better portable. The DS has a tablet interface but its used more as a gimick and most of the time rather useless. They both have bad ergonomic designs, but the PSP probably will fit the hand better. The thing that sets the PSP apart is what you can do with it. For instance in some cities you can get cable through its wireless interface if you are subscribed to the cable provider.
if your family or friends have a DS, get a DS, because you can play games w/ each other. if you only picking it up for yourself and not planning to play with others, then PSP is the one for you.
I'd get a Nintendo 3DS when it comes out (and I will!). I have a DSi and PSP, I spend alot more time on my PSP. If you get a PSP you have to get Patapon 2 (or wait til 3 comes out this fall), it's the most addictive game ever made lol. I'm going on 140 hours playtime on my save file XD Someone with ADHD, that's a miracle!
Edit: and don't get a PSP GO. My friend has one, he has 18 games, a few videos, pictures, and themes. His memory is completely full. My PSP 3000 has over 50 UMDs with saved games, my 4gb card is 61% full.
DS has more higher ranking games than PSP. I prefer it if not just for the two Zelda games
I say wait for the 3DS
