APB IMO.

I have submitted to this game, I'm addicted. APB in a nutshell is a GTA/Crackdown Mash-up with a dash of MMO. Which makes a beautiful concoction.

First let me tell you how innovative this game is, My favorite features are.

  • Very.. Detailed.. Customization..

  • A healthy choice of weapons.

  • Awesome Music

Theres more I could go on about with this game, but let me just explain it alittle more since your probably scratching your head.

The game customization is so detailed, I can't even come close to explaining it. It's almost a game itself! I spent hours working on my character and car.

Starting the game: You get into a tutorial zone, nothing special, it takes you through the game. You can then choose your district Finaical and waterfront's are PVP zone's, You go there, and you can pledge yourself to a contractor, which basicly means do only their tasks to gain rep and xp from them. Obviously this is no different then griding rep, which means there's rewards, check them out. After you get your contacts Ocassionaly they will offer you missions at the top center of the screen, you can press Y or N to respond, If the mission box is gray, its single player but can be assaulted by the other faction, if it's blue and red, well that means there are more people on this mission and its multiplayer. If you're doing a mission and you see the APB logo flash at the bottom, that means someone from the opposite faction has joined to try and stop you. That's really the simple part of the game.

The two factions are obviously Enforcer's and criminals.

To explain the time situation; The second you buy the game you get 48 hours of playtime ( in game hours ), then after that they have a currency system which I can best explain as Microsoft points. You pay them and get points, which you can use for game time, at the end of it all, its about 10$ a month, 5$ less then all the mainstreams.

This looks great, and feels okay. I think if you gave it more time it could really develop into something amazing. This game isn't OMGWTFBBQ amazing, but it really turned my head aside from the gameplay I can't explain, for 50$ you get the game, and 48 hours, That's a good buy, Give it a shot you don't have to return to it if you don't like it.

Played - M59, EQOA, EQ, EQ2, PS, SWG[Favorite], DAoC, UO, RS, MXO, CoH/CoV, TR, FFXI, FoM, WoW, Eve, Rift, SWTOR, TSW.
Playing - PS2, AoW, GW2

I think I like many others are waiting a few weeks to see if people are still enjoying the game once the shine factor has worn off.  I have bought so many games when they are first released for 50 bucks, enjoyed them for a week or so, then realized I had to force myself to log in because I simply just wasn't that interested anymore.  Only to see the game selling for 25 bucks a month later and have half the population it did at launch because many people felt the same way I did.

I'm the same, I've been bitten quite a few times so I'm in 'wait and see' mode...

    +1

I wanna give this game a go, but I'm going to wait a bit, just to read more player impressions.

I played in the beta and while I agree with what OP said I found it repetative after a time. It has some amazing features though. I am guessing if you like countless hours of FPS style matches you will probably like it for some time. I can only play so much L4D, L4D2, COD, and Red Dead multiplayer before I burn out. I burned out of run and gun and press "F" to graffiti and set bombs after a while.

Good game, just wonder about the burn out factor of the repetative gameplay.

Something happened last night, actually on a few occasions, that gave me a feeling I haven't felt since my old Quake tourney days.  I had this overwhelming urge to shake my opponents' hands.

I found myself up against folks who seemed to be bored with merely running around a pumping lead into eachother.  In these cases job completion became an afterthough and the focus was on finding new and fun (and sometimes hilarious) ways to outwit and eventually kill the opposition.  I can't speak for the other side, but I know I had some opportunities to just shoot to kill, but I was curious about what kind of trap they were setting up and would wait to see how everything unfolds.

It took me back to those days of LAN parties and QuakeCons when after an intense match we would go outside for a smoke, shake hands, talk about the match, and look forward to the next time we can face-off.

    Currently Playing: Nothing...I'm developing.
    Looking Forward To:

     This..

I've been burned in the past.. And since my wife plays any game I do.. That just doubles the damage each and every time.

The only MMO I plan on purchasing at release (possibly pre-order gotta wait for next payday though) would be FFXIV.. And that has nothing to do with it being some genre defining game, it has to do with the fact that I'm a FF nut.  Statistically, if I enjoyed the first 13, there is pretty good chance I will like the 14th.  The only debate is wether I wanna spend an extra $50 for a couple extra days early play and a couple hats (remember, gotta buy one for da wif).

You sir, have found the point.

Quite interested in it. But also, only two maps and playtime fee, on top of a 50€ pricetag... Waiting a few weeks.

The game is a lot of fun if you have friends or a clan to play with, and it's pretty good solo if you don't mind teaming with strangers. Its not really about the missions, its about the gunfights and car chases and they can play out amazingly.

There are a few problems with the matchmaking system (which chooses which players get offered the missions to go against you) and you can end up pitted against players with more experience and better weapons but that's not all the time.

All that said, I think it's wise that you guys are all waiting for a few weeks to see how it works out over time. I think that kind of cautious attitude is what the MMO companies need so they can understand how much the genre needs to be advanced from the WOW formula. I'd have done the same had I not been in beta and got free access to the Keys to the City event with a couple of friends.

This might be why I felt especially burned by APB.  I've had fun playing other MMOs with my GF, and we were both psyched about trying APB.  I was pretty disappointed, but she hated it.  Really really hated it.  So much that I felt bad for even getting her to try it.

I can't see the all action, all PvP, driving shooting gameplay as being popular among female gamers.  I'm sure there are exceptions though, so does she like other games that involve driving?  Does she like action (manual aiming) shooters?  And does she like PvP?

Seemed like all my issues with the quality of the game were secondary to my GF hating it on those three counts.  Only added insult to injury that she also prefers more traditional MMO "achiever" oriented gameplay, and agreed with me that the whole thing felt pretty pointless.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
