i've pre-ordered so many hyped games that are just ruining the gaming experience. i followed alot on this game and am anxious to buy it but like the topic said im scared to rush in a game that may not have lasting power.
i'd like to know some honest reviews of people playing the game. is it really worth the money etc to play it. by worth the money i mean, are you having fun, does it turn into a complete grindfest, if you think you'll stay what is keeping you in the game.
just want some honest feedback on a game i want to buy but after so many hyped up bombs im scared to purchase it.

my suggestion is to just wait. You dont have to be the first guy in line to play the game let the game soak for a few weeks or months then see peoples thoughts then go from there. The game will still be there next month so just wait n see.
yah im just curious, i bought wotlk went at midnight (im a nerd i know) to pick it up. realized wow im going to be playing tbc all again.
pre-ordered mw2 waste of money, pre-ordered bfbc2 , i know alot like it but the game doesnt do it for me. pre-ordered star-trek online same thing.
right now im in limbo i played eve forever too but im tired of being a ship and not a person.
right now i have nothing to play but League of legends and i want an mmo and a diff experience but im tired of dishing out dollars for half assed cr@p
I was going to pre order but then I played beta. I realized this game wouldn't hold my attention for very long, which is good considering many of the posts say it is a good "break" game. I don't really know how the game is now since launch, but I decided to opt out of buying the game because I want something I can devote ALL of my gaming time to. I leave my console for casual gaming.
I've played for over 50 something hours now and i'm saying i've only gotten started. Now that the game is live the competition is hot and now its a fight to be number 1. I have had a lot of fun and i've been playing nonstop since launch. I'd say don't rush into things if you don't have to. Wait and listen as to whats happening, if people are leaving, updates, etc. If it still sounds good then feel free to come in, but don't rush yourself.
hey dem, I did not pre-order APB. I was curious and after afew drink the other night picked it up. If you can handle alittle frustration in games, and some gta like action, you will enjoy it.
It is essentially what it sounds like on paper, cops vs robbers. TBH enforcers (cops) have a huge advantage as far as pvp goes, their stun guns are basically the end all be all in 1 on 1 pvp conflicts. The real joy of the game comes into the big multigroups aspects, which develop sometimes as quickly as you'd hope in a high speed shoot out. Outside of the slight pvp inbalance, the game is alot of fun. It handles more or less like GTA 1-3 with cops involved. The story is very lacking, but the customization and the freedom of the hunt is what gives it lasting appeal. As you gain reputation (which is the level system) you get new guns/cars/clothes etc. As a beginner it may be a disadvantage since everyone will have better guns but once you get your 2nd gun you should be much more competetive.
Now, it can be frustrating as I side since you are competing against other players instead of npc's. 2-3 cops vs 1 criminal = no fun. But all in all, game is alot of fun with some real dlc down the road I could see it having a nice lasting appeal if they put in some DLC for maybe club ownership, gang leadership, mob bosses, etc. I hate to say add abit mroe GTA to it but if you added abit more GTA story and immersion, it would be perfect. DLC helicopters anyone?
All in all a fun game with alot of room for growth, although not for everyone, if you enjoy the GTA type cops/robbers thrills you will enjoy the game. 7.5/10 IMO with alot of room for growth and some pvp balance.
I've played over 60 hours and it's probably the most fun in any MMO I've had to date. Click my xfire profile in my signature if you want to see what MMOs I've played if you don't trust me.
see i never played gta.
i played wow since 2004. eve. muonline. league of legends, diablo etc.
comparing the game to something i havent played is kinda hard for me to comprehend. i dont mind learning curves i've played eve for years. but 50 bucks and a sub is what's worrying me. im just overly tired of paying money for games that just have no staying power.
i dont mind getting owned while i learn its fun to play a hard game with a high learning curve. what im worried about is what kind of staying power is there. do u see yourself being committed to the game in the long term?
You have to keep in mind that this is not an RPG. You aren't going to have long, involved adventures across a world and gradually get better at skills, etc etc. It's a persistant world shooter, kind of the illegitimate love-child of Counterstrike and Vice City, with an entertaining, but limited variety of opposed missions. If you're the sort of player who played thousands of rounds of shooters, but like the opportunity to heavily customize a character, then APB might just be your thing.
I'd say this is a game you will want to be commited to long term. Because it's a constant fight to be number one, and it's all based on skill. You could be one of the best players in the game and get taken out by a nobody. There's already a lot of competition and a lot to do to get to the top. Even then, there will still be a lot to do with all of the future content updates and all that. I'd say this game has a lot in store. I will definitely be commited long term.
I'd just like to back what these guys are saying. APB, for me, is a ton of fun. I think it delivered, basically, what it promised. If you're in for some multi-player, GTA Style cops and robbers action, this is a great time. There's very little when it comes to story structure, but it doesn't attempt to mimic an RPG -- it's a shooter, plain and simple -- so I can forgive it for not developing a plot.
The quest system is very streamlined. You get calls on your cell from contacts that give you missions, which in most cases, means going toe-to-toe with rival players. It also features a very user-friendly grouping tool, so you can hop in and get put into a squad of guys and have a ball.
And, if you're not feeling like going on a quest, you can simply go bounty hunting. You can find the high-profile players of the enemy faction and either kill or arrest them (arrests can happen if you're an Enforcer).
There are certainly places where APB could use more developing. Right now, most mission consists of "fetch" quests, where one group gets a series of tasks to complete while the other group tries to track them and stop them. And, at the end, both groups typically fight to control a final objective. And while the specifics of these quests change a bit, it's basically the same run through each time. That probably sounds lamer than it is, I mean, I've been playing the game for about a week now (with the preorder bonus access), and I'm still far from sick of it. However, RTW is going to need to add more content to the action if it's going to have staying power. That said, I'm sure they realize this, and they probably have a lot in the works.
There's also an insane amount of customization options in this game. You can create your own logos, decals, and designs. You can compose your own theme song (which plays when you score a kill or win a mission). Or, you can purchase others' art work at the auction house. Once again, talking about these things pales in comparison to actually witnessing what you can actually do. For instance, last night I bought a logo a guy designed of the original Fallout video game. It's beautifully rendered and could easily pass for the real thing. And, being that the game's only a few days old, I have a feeling the artwork created right now is only scratching the surface. Within a few months, I imagine we'll be seeing some gorgeous stuff. And, the coolest thing about this is once you have the logo, you can put it on anything you want -- whether it's the graffiti you spray on walls, or the decal on the side of your vehicle, or a logo on a piece of clothing, or a tattoo on your toon.
Put simply, APB is one of the most fundamentally sound MMO's I've seen launch in a long time. It's got the perfect framework all in place. I hear it took them 5 years to develop this game, and I can see why. I think the game has a perfect skeletal structure, and very soon, I anticipate Realtime Worlds to begin to flesh out the meatier substance to it.
I like the game now, and I have a feeling that I'm going to LOVE it come the next few months. Hope that helps.
ty for the replies and the maturity here.
one thing i would like to point out is im addicted to cod4 cause of the way there is a leveling system with perks etc in a game. i wanted to belive bfbc2 was like that but it felt like it was lacking that grrrr feeling.
if apb is like a first person shooter game with customization i am excited. a bit of mmo with a bit of fps is great.
Hey man, I sure don't want to sell you in the wrong direction here. I should let you know that at this point in the game's development, there isn't nearly the same amount of customization in APB as there is in the CoD series, when it comes to gear. It's something that I think they're going to develop further soon, but right now, there's just basic weaponry with a handful of mods.
Where APB excels over the CoD series is that it's a sandbox style, persistant-realm, open-world shooter. Whereas in CoD, you queue the same maps over and over, in APB, (unless you're in the Social District, where you can do your customizing) you're always on the streets, and you can mix it up with others however you see fit. It's sandbox, so you can choose to do whatever you want, so if you're a crim, you can just run around boosting cars or mugging civilians if you're not feeling like questing. Or, if you're an Enforcer, you can hunt down criminals and try to make busts rather than quest.
And, for lack of a better turn, the "feel" of the game is entirely different. For instance, when I played Call of Duty, I rarely got an adrenaline rush unless some douchebag was talking smack, or if I had gotten frustrated. In APB (I typically play as an Enforcer), when the siren goes off, and the "APB" symbol cuts across my screen (it's the signal for upcoming PvP combat), it almost feels like dispatch has come over the radio and is ordering me to intercept a violent criminal. I get this huge rush and I know I'm about to get it on.
Case in point, when there's a car chase going on, and say there's like 3 or 4 crims piled in an SUV, I'll hit the handbrake and round a corner, and there will be three shooters hanging out the window squeezing off rounds at me. We're swerving in and out of traffic, and I'm trying not to crash. Meanwhile a couple of Enforcer buddies will intercept and smash into their car. Next thing you know, we're all on foot, and the pursuit ends up in the alleys and we're trading bullets, often in crossfire. At the same time, another criminal (and usually it's someone who isn't in our groups, so he and I can't hurt each other) will drive his car in front of me and block my path out of simple courtesy to his fellow crook. There isn't exactly honor among thieves, but the crims tend to hate Enforcers more than they hate each other. Finally, if the crims are still fleeing, they'll usually boost a car and my boys and I will have to as well, and the chase continues. This can go on for like ten or fifteen minutes sometimes, depending on how many kills each side has to score, and how long a time limit you have.
It's a freaking blast and it FEELS like you're in an action movie. And, in all honesty, there's not a game on the market that has this specific type of feel. GTA has a similar style, but knowing that you're facing players and not AI amps the competition to its peak.
If you're an action junkie, I would highly recommend this game. Personally, I'm not always a fan of shooters because most of them feel the same to me. However APB is cut from a different mold. I don't know of a single game that I could accurately compare it to.
My experiences post launch:
The game is fun and is a nice change of pace. In my opinion is if doing a major balancing act between the lines of worth the trouble and not worth the trouble and here is why.
Pros:
*Unique mmo
*Excelent customization - this is something I was never interested in but after messing around with it ,I grew to like it.
*Easy grouping - as soon as you pop into an action district you get a message box asking if you want to find your own group or be placed into a group. It does the work for you.
*There are always missions available to do wherever you are. No quest hubs! The only reason to get to a contact is to purchase a new gun or upgrades which can also be done in the social district which brings me to the next pro...
*Social District - free area you can hang out or wait for friends to group up without blowing your game time
*Payment Options - you can buy points for time or you can simply buy unlimited month.
*Ability to communicate to anyone near you or in your group via VoiP
*You get to shoot people and arrest crims
Cons:
*Listed as a pro but also a con due to excessive smack talking is the ability to communicate with anyone near you. Arrested someone? Get ready to listen to them call you every name in the book.
*Not really much content. You have two action districts and (I'm guessing here) 6 or so missions you will repeat over and over and over again. They are supposed to be adding more content but for now it's not there and it is a con.
*1 vs 1 bounty missions. These mostly consist of the crim jumping into a car and running away for the remainder of the mission. In a 1 vs 1 these can be a pain to get finished if they choose to run. It is possible to get luck and pin them long enough to get enough shots in to slow or blow up the car but it isn't the norm. Be ready to chase if you are an Enforcer.
*There are some hackers in the game but I haven't noticed being a very large problem yet. It's still a con though because I have witnessed some wall hacks.
*Memory Hog - This game will eat your system up. It's a know problem though and I'm hoping they will eventually do some work on the code and fix it. Want to load? Loong wait. Want to tab out? Loong wait.
*Hard on the graphics card - This is also a know issue that a lot of people are having which is graphics cards are overheating (mine does this as well) forcing you to reboot your computer.
Ehh in the middle:
*Driving can be a hassle to get used to.
*People have found their spots and will camp you.
*Guns still need a little bit of tweaking (NTecs are still a little OP but if it gets on your nerves just use on yourself) Personally they don't bother me too much to run around and use one as well. I like to mix things up a bit.
*Racial slurs and propoganda on customized clothes and vehicles.
Overall, I am having a good time with the game. It was a sloppy launch (billing issues - nobody could play but those who purchased from Steam and D2D until ten hours or so after launch) but all in all things are going well enough for me to possibly extend my 50 hours. It all comes down to how fast I will get bored with the current content. I have a clan which makes things a bit easier but even with the friends playing it's still the same stuff over again. They haven't added the commercials to the game which was something that annoyed me. The largest problem for me at the moment is the crashing that happens. I have updated my drivers to different versions trying out anything that would work but I still get the overheating and have to reset the system.
These are my opinions of the game, take it as you will.
About the wall hacks mentioned above, don't forget that in all the "kill XX before being killed xxx times" both sides of the opposition see enemy players thru walls (red square with name above).
There's also a bug with fences that allows seeing the dudes through walls.
There are still some aimboters tho (one of milkshake squad for example) and hitbox expoiters (people that are very very very hard to kill as their hitbox is very small).
This game's about fu, with friends really.
You're a Hardcore Survivor!
You not only survived the zombie apocalypse, but did it with style! Your mastery of zombie knowledge, survival tactics, and weaponry is nearly unmatched. Congratulations, for you are hardcore!
APB got 55% in PC gamer, eurogamer or whatever they called gave it 60%.. just sayin.
i actully beta'ed it from march to june and put in over 150 hours easily and while the idea is good some things let it down.
TBH i'm gonna check it out once again in a few months to see how it is and how its progressed.
hopefully by then they would of added more weapons/vehicles mission types, pure skill districts, and the turf wars with the turf wars district called midtown.
customisation is spot on though and i loved making the death tunes.
I would enjoy seeing links to thoes, as no reviews have been done yet. Only previews and thoes based on the KTTC.

APB REVIEW
http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/07/02/apb-review/
I quote:
"Confused and weightless, APB doesn’t satisfy on any front: the shooting, driving, story and objectives are all sub-par."
Yeah I found them on my own.
I can't say I agree with everything in them, and some, just read like they wanted modern warfare, some of it was just wrong.
It plays more like plantside than anything, and thats a good thing.

If your good at playing FPS's like COD, then it might be frustrating to play APB because its not the same.
But like me you might adjust quickly, if you do.. I promise you'll not put down.
If however your not very good at pvp in general I'd say dont bother. Everyone i've met who doesnt like APB rage about it, basically they are crying because they arnt very good. Not only that, they refuse to 'get good' its not hard to learn from nooby mistakes.
