This guy was a VP... He most likely knows little to nothing about how this game is progressing. This was PR fluff blown up to suggest something that has no proof either way. I find the "sky is falling" knee jerk reactions quite humorous. The game might suck in the end but taking the VP's comments as proof is ludicrous.

- Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.
It was obvious to anyone who has a long term MMO background that these guys were aiming for the same Wow-ish crap feast which was Warhammer Online fall flat on its face. Its as if THQ and Vigil learned nothing from Mythic's failure with Warhammer Online.
This won't be Warhammer 40k, where there is only war! This will be WoW in space. This means any sort of innovative gameplay and design while maintaining adherence to the IP will be tossed aside like used toilet paper.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.
I like how he only mentions "going after wow players" not those silly fans of the actual game. Who needs those guys when we can make a lame, generic, carbon copy of a tired old game. Even blizzard is moving on from WoW why can't the rest of them? Developers suck ass.
You guys just killed yourselves with that one interview.
Welcome to the failed wow clone shelf next to Lotro, WAR, AoC & Aion.
I guess we havent had enough wow clones totally fail with under 150k subs yet aye?
Come'on now ... until LotRO, WAR, AoC and Aion pull the game off the internet I think calling them failures is a little premature.
A good solid Warhammer 40k MMO is going to be unique because of its lore and setting it may not matter if its a "WoW clone " (i am really tired of this term btw ... for one thing WoW borrowed so much from EQ its sad and no one called it and EQ clone... not to mention all they stole from games workshop stylistically)
IMO the game will either be fun ... or it won't ... its borrowed features, styles, and look aren't important to me... just how much fun I have playing. I for one am going to give it a shot no matter what ... first off i am an MMO player ... second I love this IP ... third THQ has published some great games over the years I am excited about this publisher getting their hands on this IP.
If I don't like it I won't keep playing it ... but I am not gonna give up on it just because of one interview ... two years before the game is schedualed for release. Really this has been a single interview and no where in the interview does it come out and say ... we're making this game play just like WoW ...it just says it will be WoW player friendly .... after all the website claims it is a next gen MMO... and the gameplay video looks to show some interesting taget free los fire control... I think to dismiss this game as a WoW clone with as little information as we have on the game is shortsighted and pessimistic.
I used to be a hardcore WoW raider. You know... the world firsts, the legendaries, and all the heroic hard-mode stuff that ALL WoW players have because it's the easiest game in the world kind of a hardcore gamer.
I always find WoW-/WoW-Clone haters funny and makes me a little bit worried. WoW has been the most successful mmo game since mmo was introduced and they think it's the MMO world's biggest FAILURE. What??? Really. What???
Dumb down blah blah. Call it whatever you want but the reality still holds--the majority of the gaming community are casual players. It's all about reasonable rewards on time spent. Gaming companies who want to progress in the industry always aim for the majority and not the special butterfly crowd. They've learned (after the hardcore mmo company failures) that nobody with a real job and who cares about their time spent in the world will waste more time playing a traditional old school type mmo with all the technicalities that takes the FUN part of the gaming experience and turn it into some time-consuming stress-ridden non-$$$paying virtual job.
Make the game accessible. Make the game worth the hard-earned $$$. Make the game fun. That's what the new generation of gamers want.
so....they're going to make it good like WoW? would you rather if they tried to make it different like every other crap P2P MMO? that article didn't really say anything. just because it's WoW friendly doesn't mean it's a complete WoW clone.
I used to be a hardcore WoW raider. You know... the world firsts, the legendaries, and all the heroic hard-mode stuff that ALL WoW players have because it's the easiest game in the world kind of a hardcore gamer.

I don't agree with this at all. WoW earned its popularity long before this 'dumbing down' and 'casualization' begun. When the game came out back in 2004 its subs sky rocketed very fast, during the so-called Vanilla era. At the end of TBC they started to make it easier and when this kind of change happens, consumers don't react immedieately - a decline starts with a delay.
Now we are at the end of the most 'casual' and 'accessible' expansion there's ever been in history of online gaming, and according to your thoughts WoW playerbase should keep growing, which is not the case as you can see in here:
for all you people saying that warhammer is a WoW clone it is not, im 100% sure that warhammer was never cloned from WoW or any game blizzard has made. Warhammer has been out and alive longer then blizzard was even made into a company. also here is proof to u that warhammer isnt a clone.
"So, as alot of us know. Blizzard had; once upon-a-time. approached Gamesworkshop (GW) about making a PC game, adapatation of their Warhammer Universe, which GW declined; leaving Blizz to design a universe, loosley bassed off of Warhammer, but still remaining different."
so we can go into more detail too
Zergs = tyranids
Protoss = Eldar
Space Marines = Space Marines
and plus i played WoW for a couple of years its a kiddy version of warhammer. The orcs look like humans with green skin =/ look at the orcs from warhammer now thats how an orc is suppose to look like....

Oh god not this again. First off, people are talking about the style of MMO not the lore, second of all Warcraft is based on Warhammer, Starcraft is based on 40k.
Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.
The game is targetting two groups near as I can tell, fans of the 40K IP and people who want a sci fi theme park MMO.
The sci fi theme park will be the easiest pull and would likely come out of the WOW comunity.
The IP fans will fall into two groups most likely. The purist who will be impossible to satisfy and the people who just enjoy the imagery of the 40K IP.
There are a ton of WOW people who really wanted a Star Craft MMO, 40K will suck them over in droves. If the game play is fun it will keep them till Blizzard makes a StarCraft MMO.
Many of the IP fans will pick the retail box just to see what was done with their / my beloved 40k universe.
They should do well money wise.
WOW clone? maybe, perhaps likely.
The reallity as far as I can see is that MMOs will be stuck as they are untill some ground breaking change comes to MMO s and that ground breaking change is accepted , adopted, and popularized.
Tyranid Mycetic Spore invasion for the win.
3500+points and growing.
Asheron's Call, Champions Online, Dark Age of Camelot, EVE Online, EverQuest, Lineage 2, Star Wars Galaxies and World of Warcraft.Waiting for SWTOR
So will it have healers, melee dps and tanks also like WoW?
"Traditionally, massively multiplier online games have been about three basic gameplay pillars combat, exploration and character progression. In Alganon, in addition to these we've added the fourth pillar to the equation: Copy & Paste."
Let me just quote Eric Flannum, GW2's chief designer:
"As soon as one begins to compromise integrity for accessibility, you run a very real risk of watering down content and creating bland, unengaging activities."
and now I'll shuddup on this game and never look back.
I admire Mr. Flannum's idealism. Unfortunately a game needs to be accessible.
I am a giant 40k fanatic. I have been playing 40k since the Rogue Trader days. (The original Rogue Trader not the FFG rpg.) I also really enjoy mmo's. If THQ were to make a theoretically perfect mmo chalked full of integrity that was completely inacessible to me I would obviously stop playing it in short order. It needs to be fun for people who can't devote their lives to the game. It needs to be fun for people who don't have the time or inclination to hone their pvp skills to olypic athelete quality. etc.
I think a lot of people, I'll call them the vocal minority, have a vested intrest in a game like this failing. The "hard core" mmo crowd don't want to see another successful major ip mmo that is accessible to the gaming community as a whole. They want a small indie publisher with a game that only the most "elite" and "hard core" mmo "gamers" can enjoy. I hope they find that game some day. For my time and money a game that is accessible to the WoW player brings a smile to my face.
You guys just killed yourselves with that one interview.

I love posts like these, so off-base.
One interview won't 'kill the game'. Nobody cares about what an insignificant bunch of angry nerds think on a gaming website. The fate of 40k will be decided by the overall quality of the game, the marketing campaign and the press coverage it gets, simple as that.
We still have another 2 years to go, a lot can happen. Most people should know by now that this early on things can drasticaly change in the game development. People should just talk about what THEY wish was in the game and let their voices be heard in the hopes that Vigil picks up the signals and makes a game that players want.
I will start with fluid interface, meaningful PvP (let me and a clan capture and hold an objective), let me be able to drive , fly some vehicles to enrich the gameplay tactics in PvP/PvE. Give me a gear progression that is solid (multiple ways like PvP, PvE and crafting, faction rep, guild exclusive custom armors etc etc..) Give me also a rock solid and easy to use guild interface (roster, calender, any type of pertinent guild info).
And I am sure some of you guys will come up with some fantastic ideas ...
A true W40k MMO will have siege combat where a guilds could build cities and declare war, use siege equipment on each other and tare it down each others cities and conquer them, it would focus more on warfare, politics and diplomacy.. It looks like they have the right combat system down though..

no, lol not even close. i heard the first MMORPG was never winter nights back in like 1989 or something. but i could be wrong.

A PvE Warhammer 40K MMO as well done as WOW ... count me in if they have good mecha combat mechanics.
With all due respect, LOTRO and AoC are not WoW clones at all.
And AION is just barely borderline.
lol warhammer and pve dont mix sorry warhammer is based on pvp

What is that idiot is talking about? What WOW? W40K had nothing to do with that childish c***.
It would be real sad if they'd turn W40K game into something that totally different and would kill the whole thing.
But it could be a marketing trick as well...
