"As of 5th May 2010 RedBedlam will block purchases of new Roma Victor accounts. Six months later we'll stop taking any RV payments or donations and no further sesterces will be made available. Six months after that we'll shut the servers down and the original Roma Victor will closed for good."

KFR never met a deadline he couldn't break, so this is surely the RedBedlam modus operandi. In other words, things could still very well be running normally.

A better question you should ask yourself is...

"If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?"

This is a shame. I had many hours of fun in RV. The concept was excellent and it just needed some serious work in terms of crashing on borders, lag, etc.

But this game had the best crafting system in a game ever, it was seriously in depth and historically accurate, well as much as we know.

It had twitch based combat when most MMOs were still EQ clones. Only Darkfall has managed to pull off what RV tried. Mortal Online is also trying but struggling and suffering the same problems as RV.

It had free building of houses anywhere that was suitable terrain. Something Darkfall can not match.

It had looting but not full loot (shame)

It was a serious good game that suffered from lack of good management.

However I still take my hat off to KFR for manging to pull off what he did. He did not sell out to finance companies.

So respect is due to Red Bedlam and RIP Roma Victor. You will be missed!

What's really sad is there's still nothing out there like RV.

  • BillTannerBillTanner Member UncommonPosts: 37

Definitely a unique game.  For all its problems (and hoo-boy, did it have a lot of them) it was a really brave attempt at doing something that felt very realistic and historical, rather than just putting a thin veneer on the same-old thing.  Only thing which seemed to approach it was Mount & Blade (though of course MnB had horses, *ahem*) for the combat or A Tale In the Desert for the crafting.

KFR dreamed big, that's for sure.  Remember when it was still in beta and there were threads with people (and devs) seriously debating when the boards for Gaul, Germania, Italia and even North Africa would be opened?

I think everyone involved learned a good lesson about how much time and money it takes for something like this to get off the ground.  Sad to see it go, but I didn't play more than 10-12 nights in the last couple years.

Er... what happened to Roma Victor 2? Is it shutting down for that, or did it all just fall apart?

I believe the devs now partake in Xyson, which seems to suffer from lack of professional management as well.

  • commanderjimcommanderjim Member UncommonPosts: 40

Xyson or whatever is the game made by Jooky who made the RV1 engine single handedly but hasn't had anything to do with RedBedlam for some time. (I think)

As for the current situation. A few weeks back, the game and website went down for like 4-5 days before being put back up with devs saying their isp had probs or something. Its been 2 weeks this time and no signs of life from the website or game servers. There were like 4 regular people playing that I know of before it went down. Lets hope RV2 does materialise as RV was a one of a kind with so much unfilled potential.

nah, the only thing that kept the handful of players from leaving the game was the no monthly fee offer. the only right decision kfr made actually.

poor to no dev, gm interaction. lack of content updates.  outdated graphics, animation (lol at the skybox). a client update with bloom wont save this one. totally hyped up by teh fanboiz.

Hey all :) yep it looks like it went down for good this time. Sad, but at least it's not limping on, like a half dead goat, that was sadder.  It's better this way, I for one couldnt be bothered to have to keep logging in to repair stuff or cycling alts to stop stuff going public. It had been left to the vandalisers really, since they made the announcement. Being forced to log in to a broken, crashy, non supported "game", just in case the carrot-on-a-string RV2 ever materialises is no fun for anyone.

Shame we never all got to say goodbye properly though - it was a decent community, save for a few exceptions :P

Anyhoo - just to clear up the Xsyon thing, it thankfully has nothing to do with RedBedlam, or KFR, he stated so himself, very clearly on the RV forums before they went down. It is made by Jooky, who had left the RedBedlam team long ago. If Jooky has any sense, he will make it clear that RB have nothing to do with his new project also.  I preordered Xsyon, as a gesture of goodwill really, my hopes were never high but my faith is waning, its already been delayed, and tbh, if I have it right, Jooky coded RV's broken ass engine, and that is what limited the game so much really, anyway, thats a topic for elsewhere.

What I was really wanting to say was someone gave me this link, not sure if any of you already know about it - I certainly didnt. Brief synopsis, apparently RB have teamed up with another dev company to make a kids mmo.

one game thats seems to be chugging along is Alba..it's made by a few former Rv players if i'm not mistaken.

looks like a fairly decent game...but RB pretty much burn out any trust I had in independant private companies trying to make a go of something decent.

games without mass backing just dont seem to survive to completion or playability. Even swgemu is bogged down with coding it seems. eveyone is waiting on the "Object Restructure", amd thats not even launch.

cancel it on your credit card.  If you bought it but didn't receive the merchandise then you can get your money back.
