Blizzard announces RealID, to facilitate B.Net's incorporation into facebook among other things (the flaming trolls all over thier forums)..
The flaming trolls get upset (obviously).. So the flame troll post, and get their accounts banned..
SO.. they come here to flame troll how WoW is now going to die...
ROFL classic..
Just remember, I never laugh WITH you.
I don't even play WoW, but I'm looking forward to them making idiots of themselves. I also wouldn't count myself as a troll, what I am concerned about is privacy of myself and others. So please don't jump to conclusions.
IF they do it, probably many other compagny will think about changing their forum tooo, omg amazing finnaly a world with constructive comment and post on a forum !!
GO I hope google going to get into the dance and invented somthing to made this internet world a better world !!!
Woooowwww i love that !
MMorpg.com should do the same, and assosiate their account to the facebook one and after put their real name
ENOUGHT stupid threat and troll and people saying stupidity !!
Even if 90% of their subs quit over this, they would still arguably be the most profitable mmo in the world.
Whether you like it or not, WoW isn't going to die anytime soon. I actually applaud their decision to add accountability to the forums.
Yep it wont die, but dont forget its a company and if company get such huge negative PR the shareholders wont be happy as it would mean the share prises will decrease and what do you think the first will start rolling (CEOs) ? For a such big company image is important (even in gaming industry where you can do a lot of shit).
Yeah that was what i were thinking as i first read about the real ID real names in forum.
In fact i could imagine that they want to become "Farmville for facebook"
Would explain why they "dumb down" WoW more and more over last years.
Seriusoly stop chatting shit, you have absolutley no idea what you are tlaking about, worst case scenario they dont do it, no bloody big deal. So your saying the 0.5% of peopel that post on the forums will quit because they give their real names? then what about 99% of the people that dont post? will they quit as well?
I suggest you to get informed better before flamming.

My first thought was that this is a great change and I still think so. It's kinda questionable, but after this change I might even use the forum again, if I'll play WoW ever again. It's going to impact the discussion so much. Less posting in general and more reasonable posts. I think anyone who is against this, from the socializing point of view, has an active trolling character and/or is way too insecure. Fearing a security risk is very reasonable though.
Edit: Showing your character's name is different story, that might not be good idea, but that's optional so...
I'm Robert Miller, oh wait there are only about 150,000 people with that name in the world. I'm 68,124 if that helps.
Obviously, it is less about the real name than it is about accountability. They will have to have it flexible enough to handle things like duplicate names and privacy and parental concerns so that it really won't amount to much other than it will be track down people that like to harass others.
Personally, I'm less concerned that they can see my real name than they will be able to see the various alts and other games I am active in. Sometimes when I log on with an alt I don't want to talk to all my friends and guildmates.

Well, so far when you log in, you can have 2 separate lists of friends. One with REAL ID, which shows them on any game or character or server by Blizzard. The other just a generic friendlist for that server you are on. The choice is yours.
I personally just put really close friends into the Real ID and then I put just server friends in the generic friend list. Nice and simple.

And if I had a generic name like yours I might not worry much about using real names either. But amazingly, my first and last name combination is unique only to myself in all of the internet (besides my deceased father) and a Google search on it brings up an amazing amount of information about me.
Hence I avoid Facebook, never post pictures of myself, and try my best to disassociate my gaming/forum activities from my real name.
I'm not a criminal, however I've been a victim of identiy theft twice now, had my family threatened by an in game person who did know my real name and where I lived (back when I was naive and trusting like so many others on this forum seem to be) and it doesn't matter if you've never had a problem, I have and I don't care for this policy.
In the end, you'll keep buying Blizzard games and I'll avoid them, pretty simple solution for everyone I suppose.

I didn't mention you, so the only person jumping to conclusions here is you.
However, the fact that you took such immediate notice of my post, while apparantly completely forgetting what the OP said (who did have accounts banned) tells me a few things:
1) You haven't read any of the posts, so you are simply here to troll.
2) Chances are, had my post actually been directed to you, I would probably still be correct.

Think 4chan. Then anything is possible.
Don't be ignorant, you are aware that most of WoW's subscribers are under the age of 18. Why do we need to know the full name of a minor? This is why some social sites like myspace requires ou to be at least 18. WoW is not a social networking site. And yet now its being connected to facebook. But your not thinking.
This can have a huge effect on female players as everyone knows girls have a hard time putting up with name calling and jokes in mmos already. Racism,ID theft, and hacking. I have many friends who have really unique names (like my former teacher) and if he were to ever get searched in pipl by the likes of 4chan it's going to get really ugly.

What is 4chan? And also, why do you care so much about what other people think? To each their own I guess. Which, by the way, leads to the next point. You do NOT have to post thereby taking the responsibility into your own hands of whether your name is on the WoW forums. Real simple.
