This saying has to go.

KilltaskKilltask Member UncommonPosts: 37

When someone posts that they're leaving their MMORPG, one or more people usually posts "Can I have your stuff?"

It's so old.  Does anyone remember when you could actually give another character your stuff?  I mean your weapons and armor that you use.

Don't say this anymore, ever heard of Bind on Equip?  Gah!

Now if they said "Can you sell all your stuff and give me all your money?" then that would be perfectly acceptable.

I HAVE SPOKEN!

Most of the gear in Dark Age of Camelot wasn't BoE.

You can dearm everyone by saying one of these:

"Before you ask, no you can't have my stuff"

"My stuff is no-drop / soulbound, so no you can't have it"

Bind on equip killed the free market of virtual property in america. That and level requirements on items.

Damn Blizzard and their socialist ideals!

You know why there is bop on the most valuable items in game?  because the simple fact is if it was all BOE, variuos sites would spring up with peopel auctioning everything for real money, which could go into hundreds and thousands of dollars.  Simple fact is people would be actually willing to pay for the virtual items for real cash if eevrything was bow.  That is why the ebst items in game are bop.

Yes I hate the binding think way the hell over used, it added so much to the social when you could hand-me-down gear to a new guy or a friend or even an alt. As mentioned in another post the level requierments are crap to, conditioning the item worked better you could at level 1 equip the epic gear in games past but like in DAoC your low level of skill would have you breakign it down so quickly that other than for screen shots you would never do such a thing but it did mean that when you where 1 level away from the ideal level you could still use it; none of this using level 10 armor till 20 becuase you can find a decent level 15 set.

And lets not forget instanced dungons . . . remmber when you could meet people in dungons? or when grouping was actualy benaficial not a burden? modern MMOs = single player half assed RPGs with a multi a player loby social MMOs seem to be dead in the eyes of developers. I do stillhold out hope that one of the upcomign MMOs will return to the idea of social play but prolly not; every MMO I play I ask my self why not play a stand alone RPG, they are vastly supperior in the RPG realm and what am I losing? global chat and a monthly fee?

What does this have to do with what the OP has wrote?  Bloody users on here can chat crap about anything i swear.

So, basically, the OP wants the saying 'can I have your stuff?" that people use when someone leaves to be changed "Can I have all your gold, and would you sell all your stuff before you leave?"

    Sounds good to me.

Oh, can I have all your gold?

Actualy I was running a bit off on a tangent but to tie it back in; with the idea of when a player ask for your old gear its not possible as the OP said. I do miss it though not just leaving a game but leaving an areading level 10 still have your level 5 sword hand it over to the new guy there he can get more use out of it than the few copper or what ever a vendor might give.

But your right I whent to far off on a tangent with that last post of mine.

Why do people post goodbye threads in public or official forums anyway?

"Can I have your stuff?" Is just a way of saying, "F**k off, we don't care."

If you want to quit the game, say bye to guilmates, and uninstal.

    Attention seeking little shits.

  • CeridithCeridith Member UncommonPosts: 2,980

I suggest we replace it with:

    "Don't phase me bro!"

Seriously, a very poorly executed game mechanic...

I have to admit, I agree with you there. I don't understand why it's important for everyone and their Uncle to know I've quit a game.

There is a saying that really needs to go. It's statistically impossible for literally *everyone's* uncle to be doing the same thing they are at any given point. If they were, I'd be very wary of the large number of creepy relatives that are too interested in thier nieces/nephews.

    Problem solved.

I used to post on forums if i've gathered a lot of good stuff and was rich off my ass, shame for it all to goto waste, but only if I never planned to come back.

Thing is though it would never go to people who actually needed it (which was always my purpose), it was always equally geared or better players that would meet me in-game after posting "I need this or that", and of course they actually didn't..

So in short my experience is that those who are saying "Can I have your stuff" only want it for making money, i've learnt my lesson and no matter how a person words the asking of your stuff, it actually doesn't matter, you quitting only means one thing to them, money.

Better off just quitting unannounced and going to a starting area to just give it all to random people who actually need it, helps sustain the player base too since these people would be determined to use it all someday.

I agree. It makes it so your gear holds some value. You can sell it to help upgrade your new gear.

You can give players a break on old gear. You can establish a clan warehouse of gear that you can loan to clan mates.

In any case I can't tell you how many people announced they were leaving a game only to see them announce their triumphant return.

I fondly remember when items could be traded more freely and binds were reserved only for a few special items in a game and it's one of the things that puts me off playing most newer MMORPGs.

When top-notch loot was tradable it really opened up the best gear in the game to players from a host of different playstyles which only added to the variety in the community, in my experience.

Today, the best gear in a lot of games is reserved only for people who like raiding the same bosses once or twice every week (and some who clearly don't enjoy it but do it anyway).

Completing a raid once or twice for the experience is fun, but when the best gear in game is the reward and acquiring it is a chore then I'm no longer a customer.

Also, I agree with LodenDSG on level locked gear but that deserves a discussion all of its own.

Lastly, my apologies to the OP for concentrating more on the BoE situation than the saying, but that's what compelled me most.

When people say "Can I have your stuff?" in responce to some long and boring post about how a player hates this and that and is forced to leave, it usually means "I couldn't care less".

but then eve does have alot of illegal sites selling isk and modules....do agree on the BoE shouldnt be in game tho, not like gear aint still being sold in MMOs where there is BoE, several chars being sold. and well it just increase a games life artificially, tho I for one refuse to do an instance a mio times for some rare drop.

On topic: I seriously dislike BoP or BoE items.  Stupid.

Actually, i think originally this was used when people would complain about EQ and then say if something wasn't fixed, they would leave.

Then someone had the bright idea to call their bluff and ask for their stuff.  The other person would usually stutter a bit and then say no, cause they really weren't leaving.

So it was more of a "Put up or shut up" comment.

These days when there are so many other games to go to, its easier to leave (imo).  But OTOH, as many have said, alot of things are BOE.
