Given that it's mostly the vocal internet minority complaining (you have to keep in mind that most WoW players just pay, log in and play, they don't really use forums or anything) I don't really see anything changing any time soon. I will stop posting on the official forums, though. Mainly because people know almost all of my alts so they could very easily track me down.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.
Wont work. Too many players are dependant unfortunately. Plus it will begin when they will start releasing new shiny features (such as talent trees)
I'm actually enjoying to watch this 'War of trolls'.
Indeed, lke i have said.i have no problem about the id thing,Amusing to watch all the wildest conspiracy theory`s.as i said before sticking up to the man is useless.U will not succeed.
I'll probably get hammered for what I am about to say, but here goes...it is my guess that the posters who are shrugging this off and even ridiculing others who are upset about it are primarily young guys, who have also not had to endure any stalking of any kind or any identity theft and have the youthful attitude that it happens to others, not me, so why worry. The others are most likely older folks who know bad crap DOES happen to ANYONE, who have either personally endured stalking situations or identity theft, or known someone who has, and they know right off the bat that this is not a joke, it is very dangerous, and it sets a gaming precedent that could very well be adopted by OTHER games just to make more money.
There is too much 'fear mongering' going around in the world these days and people are getting dismissive of potential dangers that are too theoretical. Potentially every single thing I do could kill me and the only reason a person can stay sane is to ignore the dangers that are possible but too improbable. Personally I am more worried that when I go out for lunch a car will hit then about identity theft. I will take reasonable precautions but will not panic over it.
If you are going to talk in terms of generations then the younger people are more likely to underreact to an issue. The older people are in turn more likely to overreact to an issue that they do not wholly understand.
The reason I do not see this as an issue is that if I am bothered by my name being posted on the WoW forums, I can simply not post on the WoW forums. A simple choice on my part has eliminated the problem. Others who are bothered by this can do the same thing. If they choose to opt-in into the Real ID thing then who am I to tell tehm that they can't?
sigh i cancelled my account over this, so pissed with this crap i knew it going to get bad with the armory but i never expected this. next instead of character names it will be our real name .
Also i should say i found a blogg with the guy who is forcing this idea on us, it had his home adress phone numbers facebook page facebook friends list , his kids name's and age's there facebook page's everything !
if i was a pedo i now have access to someone's 9 year old kid thanks to just searching someones name on the internet now multuply this by the amount of people that play wow the amount of nut jobs and sex offenders x 50. And that is a rampant issue i was told when i had job interview to become a gm a few years ago.

The result is actually the opposite of what you are advocating. Blizzard is removing my ability to choose. Choosing to participate anonymously and being forced to participate their way or not at all, is not the same. It's not a simple choice.
It won't stop with their forums, that is a testbed. I will be left with a choice I don't want. Choose to play online games.
That is not fear mongering that is a entertainment lifestyle changing consequence. Don't throw any "go outside" rhetoric - this isn't 2002.
Well, if Blizz is willing to pay $750k in order to somewhat purge the forums of trolls and idiocy, then it's not a good deal for them. Or so I believe. Unless they have more to win from this move, medium to long term.

Blizzard will connect with the facebook network, and have a whole array of new addons to play with and make money off of.
It even more or less says so in the new user agreement. The argument that its to protect us from trolls, is so infantile I cringe whenever someone sounds as though they genuinely believe it.
Go look here to see how concerned the CEO is with our flame wars and troll issues:
I don't get it. Whats all the hub-bub with this RealID? It works just like steam, except with real names. So basically you do not invite anyone, but your close real life friends to it. Thats it. Am I missing something?
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Yes. You are missing a lot. Just take the time to read through the posts here, and you'll see REAL quick that it does not stop there.
Trying to convince WoW players to boycott WoW, is like trying to get crack addicts to boycott crack. It sounds like a great idea but until something terrible happens to an addict they won't stop, even if something terrible does happen they likely won't stop.

I cancelled.
I don't use the forums but I do value my personal privacy. I don't want to support companies that don't value privacy as much as I do.
I don't google either for what it's worth.
