Welcome to MMORPG.com.
You're probably going to get flamed for using CAPS, so I recommend not doing that anymore.
There are tons of games out there. Anything in particular you're interested in?
Since you are new to online games, look through this site and find all the free trials. Play a few of them until you find one that you like. Because of the number and variety of games out there, rely on your own judgment and find something that suits you.
Hedonismbot: Your latest performance was as delectable as dipping my bottom over and over into a bath of the silkiest oils and creams.
It's hard to say without knowing what you want, but I'll throw out my some of my games.
First there are the subscription based games, those are the ones that you have to pay $15 a month in order to keep playing. The biggest MMO out is World fo Warcraft. It is loaded with content and if you are pretty casual, it should give you months if not years of gameplay. If you are playing anything sub based, I would suggest playing the trial version of WoW first. This is generally the standard for comparison, though it is not the first in this genre. You should at least get a feel for WoW since in describing a game, people generally refer to WoW for comparison.
As for non-sub based games, there are quite a few good ones.
If you want a fast-paced shooter set in futuristic times, try Global Agenda. It doesn't not have a lot of content yet, but it's being revamped pretty hard right now. It's pretty much a shooter game, with roleplay mechanics blended in. You level up, get new gear, new skills, and so on.
There is also APB, which does cost money to play, aournd $10 a month OR you could buy game hours intead of subscribing. I't s large cops and robbers type online game. A map will contain 100 players who pretty much face off doing good (as enforcers) or bad (as criminals) things to level up and gain new gear/weapons.
If you want the traditional RPG that has a rich story with elements of online, then try Guild Wars. It focus a lot on PvP and is still probably one of the most organized games out. Everything is classified neatly and is easy to pick up.
Those are all the games I have enjoyed most, but I have my own taste. I say, read up on a game, if it sounds neat, look for a trial. All of these games have had trials, will have them again sometime.
Thanks for the heads up splinki and i don't really know yet what i would like to play, i quite like the idea of the real life and fantasy games. I'm gonna take skooma2's advice, play a few free games, see what i like and take it from there.
So what games do you both play, splinki & skooma2?
And how long have you been RPGing for?
@BlahTeeb: Yeah ive heard of WoW a few friends of use to play it a while back. Im just having a look through the game list just now, theres quite alot to choose from.
Once i sort of started to get into RPG, i never knew how big of a following and fan base it had, but i look forward to being a part of it
Also, as someone mentioned earlier Guild Wars is also a decent starting out point, I guess. No monthly fee, all money up front. I personally am not a fan, however, as it is instances too heavily and you don't get that "community" feeling you do with other games.
It really all depends on what you're interested in. There are tons of games out there. Free trials are definitely the way to go!
maybe you can try some new open betas or something like that
Furthermore i like welcome you to the dark side of MMORPG:) haha
you will certainly like it:)

Welcome to the MMO playerbase OP
Like someone mentioned earlier, although it certainly wasn't the first to implement such a design, you might be better off trying the trial of World of Warcraft (a.k.a. WoW). Or Guild Wars. Maybe even Lord of the Rings Online (if you're a Tolkien fan).
There's essentially two recognisable designs for MMOs: "Themeparks" and "Sandbox".
"Themepark" type MMO's offer the player storylines and quests based on story arcs. Like in single player games. Examples of the more popular themepark type MMOs are World of Warcraft and Guild Wars. There are many others though which may or may not take your fancy
"Sandbox" type MMO's are more like what you do in GTA once you've completed all the assignments and the story has ended but you keep running around doing stuff based on your own personal objectives and goals. You're given the "tools" to do it and its up to you what you want to do. One of the most popular "Sandbox" games is Eve Online, which is a space based MMO.
Some MMO's specialise in the PVP (player versus player) playstyle, whilst others offer both PVE (player versus environment e.g. killing animals and stuff) and PVP options. Eve is more PVP than PVE, whilst the likes of WoW can be considered a mixture of both.
Each have their advantages and disadvantages. We can't really guess which you'll end up liking, so try each out. Ignore any possible asshats you meet, and above all else, have fun
I hope that I didn't sound condescending anywhere in this post, it wasn't my intention
Top 10 Most Misused Words in MMO's
HELLO THERE NICE FIND OF YOU THIS SITE IS VERY COOL AND STUFF BUT KEEP IT QUIET OR EVERYONE WILL FIND OUT
You've "heard" of WoW...child. Well there are tons of free MMOs out there, I am currently looking forward to FFXIV to be honest...first MMO to use the same engine that the PSIII uses...and of course Square Enix is behind it, so it has a good production group backing it.
is there a game like world of warcraft n shaiya that has a gunner class like ragnarok wer u can use pistols n stuff n other kind of guns plus has guild war like ragnarok wer there r emperium battle grounds like wow n shaiya and also is there a game like this that is free to play no payments
yea ok
Actually sounds kind of like Aika:
Has a rifleman and a dual-gunner
Has not only guild vs guild but nation vs nation and other forms of pvp too
and its F2P.
Greetings,
My advice would be stay away from World of Warcraft the community is terrible on both sides of the fence. It won't do anything but ruin your mmorpg new experience. I wish there was games like when I first started such as Asherons Call or Everquest II and not to mention Dark Age of Camelot. Most of them games are dead now but those had community and it wasn't about I want that epic drop its mine.
I played WoW up until 2 days ago got sick of the guild leader for the last time threatening me or putting me down. Its happened more than one time, and I use to be in a guild that was #1 on a server and its not any different. I have done it all in WoW stay away.
If I was you I would probably wait till the new Star Wars or FFIV comes out, it would be the better experience instead of jumping into one the games that are just stagnet.

WoW has about the same proportions of clowns as everything does, including these forums. The nice thing about WoW is that if you play it you'll have an idea of how to play 90% of the other games out there because most of them have adopted similar designs and interfaces. Its also extremely entry friendly compared to AC or DAoC, and those communities are more likely to harbor crazy elitests than even WoW due to their age and stagnancy. EQ2 is sorta entry friendly and I recently spent some time playing EQ2 and the community was friendlyish, pity I found the game so bloody boring.
My advice is the same as the others, play free trials until you find something you like, if it doesn't fit quite right, but you enjoy somethings, come back and people will have better suggestions, until you try it, especially being new, ignore any of the bitterest advice and find out for yourself.
