Looking for an extremely social 2d mmorpg.

I use to play a game called Tibia for yrs. The levels are unlimited, and if you wanted to you could just train for weeks, to up your skills. I got really good at the game (was in top 300 for lvl when i quit) but the Devs destroyed the game..but the best part about Tibia was the ability to just sit.. and talk, for hours. Sometimes i'd log on, and not even leave the safe zone, and just talk.

So, i want a game like this, i don't care about the grind, i can grind all day, but i want a very social, player ran server, time game, where you walk to a city, and you know people, cause you see em all the time.. if any of that make sense

anyone have any ideas?

not runescape! lol please.. spare me ;P

Download and give this game a try.

    www.graalonline.com

Doesn't look like much, but honestly it is the best thing for what you are describing, and there are about 7 different types of servers with it's own theme.

mmohut.com has a 2d mmorpg section with video and other useful information

I'd google 2d mmorpgs and see what pops up

    Runescape isn't 2D.

Go play a tabletop rpg, alot more fun if you want to socialize.

    Try DnD.

Please do not hype any gam.. oh wait, nevermind... forgot what forum I was on.

Only game I can think of that I played where you can log in all day and do nothing but chit chat with people was SWG. You can also spend an entire day (re)decorating my house and not finish.

Hard to find this type of crowd in mmo's these days.

    You like to slay Dragons?

Well in SWG you can find Giant looking Dragons to slay called Krayts and Kimogilas.

I'd check it out, hardcore.. but i heard it went to hell with an update, that compleletly changed the game? and all i hear is bad things about it, wasnt even sure if it was still really played.. but the player housing is.. i just love games with player housing, its a real "seal the deal" type thing for me lol

Haha yay they revamped the site, not for the better in my opinion. Just go to the Become a member tab. It's very simple and you should be able to find the client download on there, which downloads rather easily.

    Ultima Online.

Most people who play UO have been playing it for several years, so you end up getting to know a lot of the other people on your server. Plus, since it's been out for 13 years now, there is TONS of content.

    Currently Playing: DAOC Uthgard

Previously Played: UO, DAOC, Shadowbane, AC2, SWG, Horizons, COX, WOW, EQ2, LOTRO, AOC, WAR, Vanguard, Rift, SWTOR, ESO, GW2.

UO had its world split into two different shards, Trammel and Felucia many years ago, so as long as you don't go to Felucia, you can't be pk'd.

Completed the 2nd part of the tut, next thing i know i completed the 4th... this whole time i didnt do anything but accidentally pick a class, and then picked a birthday that lowered my str lmao ;P

Believe it or not but Ryzom has that kinda community. Played it for a few months and I can see very easily how you could actualy get to know every player on the server given a bit of time...At least all of them that knows how to use a chat box. lol.

If you like sandbox social MMOs then you might like Ashen Empires.  I've been playing this game off and on for over 10 years.  It's totally free to play upto level 100, then you have to buy the expansions to get to 110, but still 100 is pretty good.  All the expansions cost only ~$35.  Alot of people just hang out at banks and talk, almost everyone knows everyone.  Very friendly, and always something to do since it's sandbox.  Want to fight with a sword, pick one up and swing away.  Cast magic? get your runes and get casting.  Pretty much do whatever you want...well not illegal stuff lol.

Edit: If you don't want 8 year olds pking you, choose the Legends server ;)

  • medmarijuanamedmarijuana Member Posts: 282

could you be a lil more specific when you say always something to do? Like what? What kind of content does it have?

What is the combat system like?  Do people do anything other than stand around in front of banks talking?

I'm looking for a temp game until FF14 comes out.
