E3 Rift Demonstration Video

DataDayDataDay Member UncommonPosts: 1,538

Hello everyone, I had a chance to stop by the wonderfully designed Rift booth on the E3 expo floor today, and here is a piece of what I recorded.

What you will see is Rift being played while a demonstrator lays out what's going on with the game world, and to top it off there is a beautiful booth babe that made it hard (no puns intended) for me to focus on what the guy was saying.

;-)

Enjoy

    Thanks for posting the video.

I noticed the mount looked like a rhino, kinda. Neat looking, and I'm certainly over the whole horse / wolf thing.

Also, they mention the Shadowlands being a realm between life and death. I wonder if that means it's the very early game before you become an Ascended Soul, or if it's a realm you're trapped in if your character "dies" during gameplay.

Last but certainly not least, I FREAKING LOVE the draw distance. Sheesh. Seems like you can see for miles in RIFT. Well done!

You know how people say the genre's been over-saturated with fantasy MMORPGs? Well, to me, still noone's nailed it. Too static, no good story content, lazy work with the class and progression system... They have been way way behind single player RPGs on many aspects.

I have high hopes for this one. :) Dynamic content is the number one point of interest right now, but they also seem willing to throw in some nice twists to old-school systems.

I agree. When I see people say "why make another fantasy game when wow has nailed it" it makes me die a bit inside.

WoW has nailed it for WoW and I think that's great. But I have yet to play the game that I thought I'd be playing when I tried my first mmo back on '04.

    And I'm still waiting.

Fantasy is NEVER ENOUGHT, there always be a combo with steampunk, dragons, asian culture, indian culture and what so on...

And no matter what, chopping orc heads off will always be fun :)

    now: GW2 (11 80s).
    Dark Souls 2.
    future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
    "Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Oh man, if only a new steampunk mmo. I agree there is yet to be a great fantasy game I just prefer fantasy/sci-fi combined. Lazer swords and shields, not so much guns in the fps tps format, but as long as they have bows. Its to bad RF Online was horrible in lots of other ways because its genre was dead on what I like to play.

That booth was hotness. That soul system was what I was waiting to hear about. I'm trying to hold back on being optimistic about a game to the extent I may have in the past, but they are making that hard. You will essentially be able to make a character, get tired of it, and make it entirely different. This system is what the doctor ordered of any altoholic (me) or anyone who loves customization in their characters.

A constantly changing world, the soul system, and the entire rift system it all spells out a great game.

Great vid. And I like what I read about Rift's world and gameplay.

Rift might turn out to be the sleeper hit of 2011/2012. Or maybe not so much sleeper, if they keep releasing a steady stream of info of the kind that has been seen until now, Rift will climb the hype trees as a monkey acrobat.

It would be really nice for a walkthrough to be uploaded on the rifts site that goes over the same stuff so we can hear all of thise more clearly.

    Thanks guys for the videos.

FFA PvP with consequnces at death is more my style of game of choice, but as a gamer enjoy any well made mmorpg.

RIFT looks to be one of the most promising in development for many reasons not the least of which appears to be an extremely talented and focused development group with some of the best art I've seen in a long time.

Very much looking forward to this and it's one of the few games under development I'd really like to be part of beta in.

Thanks again for sharing these vids.
