This is the end of good games with great graphics and a new age of crappy pick up and play pay 4 advancement BS.

The sheeple have spoken, The dawn of the crap game that 11 year olds can program. Nostalgia for retarded gamers are easily suckered into a game that requires very little effort and does nothing but profit the creator a million times over.

If it's good it's good, but this offers nothing that any other facebook Pay4Gold game doesn't. Nothing new or innovative. Way to ruin gaming by supporting poo.

All of a sudden I get the urge to watch Grandma's Boy again.

By the way, props to the kid.  Making a game at 11 year old, no matter the quality of the game, is impressive.   He's got a bright future ahead of him.  I hope he ignores the internet haters.

ROFL at the folks who think he programmed this game.  It plainly states that he DEVELOPED the game, and that he had a team working on it.  Like someone said earlier, his rich Dad hired some programmers to put this crap together - all this kid did was say what he wanted the game to do.  My 10 year old son has great ideas for MMO games too; too bad his father barely has enough money to put food on the table...

To the people mentioning that the kid's family has resources and may be exploiting their child in a cynical attempt to obtain more resources:

Neither of those things is the kid's fault.  I certainly hope for his sake that any help he received was given out of love, to help him develop his potential and work on something that will build up skills he can use in the future.  If it's for any other reason, I feel sorry for the kid, but that doesn't negate the time and effort he put into this.  Most eleven year olds (even very bright ones) don't stick with the same project or goal long enough to finish playing a game, much less make one.

And as for the rest, sadly, the world is full of kids who are as smart or smarter than this kid  yet who will never have an opportunity to do what this kid has done.  There are kids who will never even have the opportunity to see age 12.  They'll starve or they'll die of some curable disease or they'll get killed in an uprising or a war, maybe by an American bomb coming through their roof or by some nut wearing an explosive suit.  Again, not this kid's fault.

I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

I don't understand all the hostility. Still...I do think it is mainly a publicity stunt to draw more players and thus...CHA CHING. It just feels that way. Don't get me wrong...I've met kids that could design a decent game and some that have. (mostly for personal use...friends family etc). The 11 yr old here probably came up with some good ideas...and had a lot of help putting it together. I don't get the impression he programmed it..did any modeling or marketing. Mostly just the idea man..so to speak. I think like this mainly because I'd hate to believe an 11 year old boy would do such brilliant work , touting all the educational benefits and such....then try to rape you at the cash shop. For that, I think we can thank an adult.

I must praise the kid for being able to be part of developing and having a game out on the net that he was invovled in.

However, I ageree with the people who are being labeled "jealous and haters" about the kid's actual position and invovlement. You can't always take a news story at face without looking at the whole "truth". Everyone should be aware of how the Media loves to manipulate info to make it sound much better (or worse) than things are to draw attention.

Checking up on it, there is info about his "support". Unlike what the article makes you want to beleive, this kid wasn't the one who "completed" this game on his own.

I can think of many reasons why such an atricle is written as is. I can think of the possible advantage with the Media and Press coverage (especially fo rthe game and the dev company). Why do you think so many have joined the game? It's b/c articles like this makes people want to check out what's so special about a game "made by" and 11 year old. Would as many people have looked at it if it was not hyped up like that?

So yea, props to the kid for what he has done.

But jeeze, people need to question their "news" more instead of blindly following and taking it all as truths.

    Fixed that for you.

Fixed it further. Did you even try playing the game, Anubisan? The setup makes Zynga look like a philanthropist. It's barely beta-worthy, and they're already funnelling players towards the gold-shop.

Like I said earlier, if the kid actually contributed in a meaningful fashion, props to him. But the game itself is dross and a blatant cash-grab.

Reminds me of the time I made a game about my RE teacher in Collage. Think R-Type with her face. It became THE game to play over the network, and roughly had 3500 unique downloads for it.

She didn't like me for some reason.

An 11yr old making a facebook game is set to revolutionise the Northern Ireland games industry.

Either 1. There is no NI games industry and this kid plus that nerd who lives in the next street are the only devs or

    2. The NI games industry is a sad sad excuse for a games industry.

Still, all props to the kid for making the game.  All my games so far have avoided online/MP due to my hatred of networking.

One thing I'd recommend to the Kid. Change the frakkin name. How brilliant can the kid actually be if he truly did put all the forthought into the game and the best name he can come up with is " Buccaneers and Lobsters". The name is likely the only thing the whiz kid came up with.

  • MilkyMilky Member Posts: 339

I call shenanigans.  Look at the prominently displayed mac product placement in that photo.  There is no way he did all of that completely by himself.  He may have done some of it but he clearly had help.  But it's on the internet so it must be true.

  • FalcanFalcan Member Posts: 36

Not even looked at the game, but seriously, its not that hard to throw a game together these days if you have the time and access to the internet.  If the kid made a good game, thats one thing, but if he made a crap game yet is only 11 years old, meh.

The computer game was developed by Omnisoft Services Ltd. (www.omnisoftservices.com). Big thanks to Jonathan (Lead Programmer) and Peter and Michael (Graphics) and Andrew (Marketing) and of course Peter who if it wasn't for you this game would never have even been considered ;)

So its not like he made it all by himself. He did some of the art and designed the theme. Any 11 year old kid with enough help could do this if they wanted to.

We currently have 3 full time SMO resources based in the UK on the project and are looking for additional support, or more people to ensure the most effective marketing spend possible. This game is set to be the next farmville we hope."

I thought it was obvious but I guess not everyone can see that the kid didn't do all the work.

It more or less sounds more like a sort of finacial investment than making game. Lucky kid =/

i give the kid props for being age 11 and helped produce a MMO styled game (notice i said helped produce, not make)

tho i have not and most likely wont try or play it... im not a fan of pirate lobsters O_O? pirate ninjas maybe... but not sea food...

i really dont get why people are soo exessively negitive... yes we know he didnt MAKE it.. doesnt mean he didnt help produce it. do you really think the CEO of blizzard made WoW??? or SC??? or WC?? fk no he didnt.. he hired some korean guy to lead a team to make it.... but hes still credited with making it... so for the kid... ya his daddy most likely put up funds (all games need capital) and got the crew to make it, doesnt mean the kid sat at home playing with barbies while the guys did all the work.

most likely he put in ideas and input that went towards how the game was shaped and formed... like all game ceo/producers do.... its pretty basic crap..

while i most likely will not bother making a game my self.... never was interested in playing with my interplay learn to program basic cd even after i bought it...

still got to give the kid props for making a game... or atleast having a hand in making it.. even if its a crappy thing like farmville or junk.

who knows the kid might go from that to a producer at EA..... or some crap...

I actually cant believe the negativity here!  its mad

    well said to ichmen !!

So big deal the 'kid' didn't program every last bit of the game, but he's a child!! he is no doubt at school, and kicking around a football most of the time!! he's prob doing more than all of us who are sitting around talkin about him!

I seriously doubt that many good on line games are produced solely  by one person (no matter what age!!) from initial ideas, to development, marketing, programming, design ..............

if you wanted your game to be a success and had the finances available, I don't see who in their right mind wouldn't go out and hire more qualified people to do it!! it would be crazy to do otherwise!!

and as for his family 'using him' etc... if you were blessed with good fortune, would you not want to help your kids in any way possible??! at least this family are creating what could be a career for their child instead of just giving them money and expecting them to do nothing. This may be the first of many computer games/ investments ..... etc for him, and i'm sure he will gain some form of business experience from all of this! lets face it he's 11 and already his CV is more interesting than most!

If you dont like this game--big whoop, 10,000 other users do!  and im sure there will be plenty more! do you think he cares what you sit and say when hes seeing those 10,000 other pple buying gold to play.....

    eh..

    NO!!

    eh..

    NO!!

The negativity here..imo ..stems from the fact that the whole thing is presented like a simple Human Interest story about some wonder kid who creates this educational boon to mankind (o.k. I may be exaggerating)... when all it is is an attempt to get some free advertising for a game with an overpriced cash shop. Oh well..at least they're not trying to use sex to sell their game like everything else.
