This is a bit of a reminder, blended lightly with b*tching about these brain dead fool phishers who have lately found me. I assume my email got spotted someplace and since then (all week) I have been flooded with "your account has been improperly accessed and you must give us all your information so we can confirm you are you" with everything from Aion (which I have no account for at all lol) to WoW and beyond. These pages look semi official but unless your drunk you should not be falling for these scams. However make sure you report them as phishing scams in your email on the vague chance someone ever does something about it.
Cheers!

You don't even need to go to the web page to find that out. Turn on Full Headers in your email client and look at the Sent from address. It's probably Hotmail.
Or just read the thing. The spelling and grammar are usually on about the 8th grade level or below.
Reverse it on them and ask them to verify themselves by paying you a dollar over paypal. I've gotten a few hundred dollars this way.
One of the problems is that people deal with a lot of these email and messenger scammers. We get told that its beyond the control of people who handle the popular email sites and messengers, but its actually them who make deals with people for money to give your information away by accessing those domains...
What I did was I created my own domain...and handled most of my major email from there. Ironically since 2003 I have had this and guess what...I have received no SPAM of any kind ever, nor any of the BS found in most mail. I do use Yahoo for deflection purposes and its amazing how major email servers work.
The problem is not the internet as much as the "give up without a fight" society we have become. Instead of actually forcing the issue, people just deflect the problem. They download the latest Anti-Virus, Spyware remover and all sorts of security junk that slows your system down to a crawl. Lets not forget people download the latest browsers as well...
I know people mean well. Its not that "The threat is growing rampant across the internet and we can't stop it", its more like "we are allowing many to penetrate our defenses intentionally for money and making it look like its a losing fight."Its sad but true...:(
If you want to run a simple test....Just download a Linux OS and run it for a few weeks and you will find almost no threats hit you...that it baffles the mind at how one can just add a few lines of code to a Kernel and then recompile it and literally deal with nearly nothing.
I got mine today and it's pretty darn impressive.
I haven't played WoW for a couple of months and this site, blizzard, and a couple of other game companies are the only ones that can connect that email address to my wow account.
Edit: MMORPG.com, blizzard, bioware, cryptic, turbine, Aventurine, and Icarus Studios are the only companies that can connect that email address to wow.

I got that exact same email wicker. Sent it to the blizzard email you are supposed to forward it to. I knew it was fake, but also opened up the header and it showed it was from some hotmail account.
I got that same email and the only account I ever had with WoW was a trial account.
Here's a new one that is just as good as the other one:

"The liberties and resulting economic prosperity that YOU take for granted were granted by those "dead guys"
I've gotten two fraudulent emails just this week telling me that my WoW account's security has been compromised and that a faction change is pending.
The great part is that, apparantly there is a big market for stealing accounts of people who haven't played the game since bfore WotLK came out and have only one character at lvl 70, and a warlock at that, not exactly the most "in demand" class at this time.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
This it the exact same email that I got a few days ago
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
I got one of those. Which was funny, because it was on an email address that isn't linked to WoW or anything. I'm just waiting for the Starcraft phishing to begin in short order.
Yea i have only played the trial for wow seems my trial account gets hacked a lot lol.
How they got my email from just using the account for 3 hours is a mystery to me.
Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
