The Furry hate, Furries in MMO's & why I think there should be a new big polished Furry exclusive MM

RudyRaccoonRudyRaccoon Member UncommonPosts: 475

I'm not sure what the best terminology is, whether you call them a anthropomorphic (anthro for short) or the more familar term, Furry or Furries, not to be confused with people in Furry suits but basically anthropomorphics are talking animals that can walk and think like Human beings and many have harstyles like Humans. But anyway, why there's so much abuse against these just makes me sad, I have been a big Furry fan ever since the first day I played Sonic 1 on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis way back in 1991 so I was a kid and the classic old school Sonic has always been a nostalgic favourite of mine.

However, the reason why many people hate Furries is because of Furry fetish, I say so what? Men natually have fetish of women so why should Furry women be an exception? I admit I have my lust for female furries sometimes, I really don't see what the big deal is. Furries are not new, they have been around much longer then you think, the Ancient Greeks had Medusa and the Minotaur and the Ancient Egyptians had my favourite, Anubis. Just to let you all know I love Furry characters, whether they have fur or of the scaley kind, they always interest me probably because I love real life animals as well, anything that resembles an animal I think is cool. I know this Furry hating is not ever going to end, the best I can do is just ignore them and be thankful there are Furry communities around in the Internet.

Anyway, what's this got to do with MMO's you ask? Well from my understanding they are not so much of a big thing in the MMO space, there's Furcadia which is such an old game now, a few MMO's have a few opinions of looking like an animal (like a lizard person in Champions Online as an example), Everquest has frogs, rats, dragons and lizards and the juggernaut that is World of Warcraft has people playing as cows and eventually werewolves. May I ask though, why isn't there a big polished Furry exclusive MMO yet? Just look at this cool game cover of one of my favourite games and imagine what we are missing.

I'm imagining a sci-fi fantasy setting, no Human beings what so ever and you could play as whatever Furry animal you want most to play as (you could play as your favourite animal), have a choice of classes and that would be heaven for me. I would add a new class called the Rocketeer and maybe have the Rocket Knight as a class path, have your usual casters like Mage and you can have more modern classes like soldiers with all your different ranged weaponry. Personally I'm not sure why no-one has made such a MMORPG yet, I think it would be something new and interesting to see a big spanking 3D world of all things that look like animals, whether your into the furry mammal sort, reptilians, birds, marine creatures or bugs and they all do the usual war against evil things whether you do the usual quests/missions. It really needs to be made. image

Here would be my sci-fi premise:

500 million years ago, and incredibly advanced alien race Terraformed multiple planets to make them like their home planet. Earth was one of these where evolution resulted in intelligent apes AKA humans. On other planets, different animals evolved greater intelligence. Also some planets had more or less contact with the 'god-like' aliens.

I'd think you could have some nature-based lore, dolphins on another earth run things and are very focused on conquering the land (flooding things), dinosaurs on another, some type of colony animal (ants, termites) on another - with a borg-type pheramone communication system.

    That's my thought.

Don't know what the hate is about. I don't really care what people do behind closed doors if it is not hurting anyone else. Some people are easily scared by what they don't understand. Especially those that try to act like they are not. I don't understand Furry sexuality, but its doesnt affect me.

"Never met a pack of humans that were any different. Look at the idiots that get elected every couple of years. You really consider those guys more mature than us? The only difference between us and them is, when they gank some noobs and take their stuff, the noobs actually die." - Madimorga

The target market is too smalll for a company to spend the money on a "big, polished" game.

As far as the hate, it's simple.  The idea of being a furry is seen by many as being a primarily sexual fetish.  That of course jiggles and shakes the great giant stick that far too many people in this world have lodged firmly up their backside regarding anything even hinting at sexuality.

Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.

There is as much wrong with Furries as there is with roleplayers, guess thats not much. Personally I don't care what your "hobby" is  , the Furries that bother me are the ones that force their hobby on others. I led a large guild in Warhammer and we had a recruit named Foxygirl ( Go figure) who insisted on * I rub myself on your leg* - * my tail flicks your face* etc every damn time I spoke in guild. I also have to question the sanity of the Furries who believe that " We all have a certain animal inside us" and arn't just blowing smoke.

Other than that ...  yah the market is way to small, it won't happen.

As he said, there aren't enough furries (and then enough of them into gaming) to make designing a game to target them worth it. MMOs don't tend to have roleplay servers anymore because there aren't enough people who want to actually roleplay in MMOs anymore either. You target the markets that will make you the most money.

People hate furries because it is foreign to them, it is in our genes to like the concept of being human so when someone wants to be an animal it feels off. Also the cartoony animal costumes they tend to wear at their meetings just plain bother people, if they were more realistic depictions of animals it would probably go over better. I must say I don't find many things people do to be weird because I don't care what others do on their own time. But furries seem very weird to me. That's not to say I'd beat up some guy if I saw him in an animal costume, I would just look at him and think "Man that's weird" and go about my day.

I have never seen any sort of hate towards fictional furry characters. Games such as Sonic the hedgehog, Donkey Kong and Star Fox are still very popular.

What many people do find disturbing are the furry fetish the op mentioned, and for good reason. These people act like animals, having a fetish for animals is just disgusting.

Generally sex can be considered disgusting, but sex is something grown men tend to think about a lot at times, just like a male bunny you want to mate with the female.

Second Life has furries, a lot of them pretty big community also.

And any Egyptian State or local god shouldn't be considered a furry.

The Furry hate? Oh come on, somebody does not like something you do and that makes it hate? What is a furry anyway, some of the alien races I have played might be considered 'furry' its all down to how you want to perceive something. I also thought some all animal MMO's exsisted already?

How do you know Anubis wasn't a Furry? Just because Anubis was a god doesn't mean it's not possible.

Yeah, stop hating on furries! I'm sure it's just because it's sexual and nothing to do with disliking furries itself. Why would anyone be freaked out by people who dress up in full animal costumes and have sex, or be attracted to fox chicks. Plenty of people fantasize about having relations with werewolves in hybrid form I'm sure.

And how do you know he was? Neither here nor there.

You don't see me claiming to be a zombie and dressing up like Jesus.

    Nor zombie freaks either.

I agree. Second Life is your game. There's plenty of furries for you to yiff with.

Look, a character from Second life:

    And here's another:

    There's even furry amputee fetish:

    And it's free.

    Why aren't you playing already?

As is the entire concept of "yiffing" which I learned about when exploring the idea of playing Second Life.

Examples of sexual aspects within furry fandom include erotic art and furry-themed cybersex.[51][52] The term "yiff" is most commonly used to indicate sexual activity or sexual material within the fandom—this applies to sexual activity and interaction within the subculture whether online (in the form of cybersex) or offline.[53][54]

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furry_fandom

Regular players aren't going to sub toa game with a bunch of yiffing going on.

I will never understand people's obsessions with such wierd shit, especially stuff such as having sex with animal humanoids.

    Currently playing - FF14ARR
Previous games - SWG, World of Warcraft, ShadowBane, Warhammer, Age of Conan, Darkfall, Planetside Asheron's Call, Everquest, Everquest 2, Too many.

No matter how you name it, hentai is basically  child porn.

I had fun playing a Troll in EQ2. Mostly because he was huge, and I like to play large characters, also because he was ugly, AND because I did the betrayal quest, which let me play on the good side, so I was a unique character on that side.

But there was absolutely nothing sexual about the character choice, although non-human, at all.

I don't think the furry people can say that. It's ALWAYS connected to sex for them, and the OP even said as much.

When you go for the sex angle, that's the end of the "game".

And in this case it's not JUST sex, it's deviant sex at that. I'm not judging, just saying it's outside of the normal box.

So, a polished game just for people into bestiality?

    Probably not going to happen.

I disagree. The subjects are generally young, but not prepubescent.

"children" don't have breasts as big as the cartoon characters in hentai.

Sounds cool, but theres no big demand for it at the moment. And there are more things to an MMO than just the character builder content. Like the gameplay, what would you do in it. Just have sex? Or hunter for food, protect from an invader?

Also there are games that do allow you to make a furry. You can play CoX, or Champions online to make a Furry character. You could also go to IMVU to be a furry.

As a concerned furry gamer, I completely agree with your interpretation. It's sad, but it's unfortunately true.

I play games like Ratchet and Clank, Sonic, StarFox, etc because the characters strike me as really badass. They just look cool, their personalities come through better. It's a stylistic choice.

However, I have stopped calling myself a fur because of that hypersexual connotation. I heavily insist that the characters I create in cartoons are not "furry centric", they're just talking anthro animals, because I do not want my work being lumped in with that crowd.

I also left Earth Eternal because it is nothing but furry drama and yiffing 24/7. the mods have all but given up regulating it, and it's become the new furry yiffpit.

Furries... you took something fun and lighthearted and turned it into the most depraved thing on the planet.
