SW:TOR = My opinion of what it will be like.

Since it's common practice to make definite statements about upcoming MMO's of which a lot of features haven't been revealed yet and that doesn't have an open beta to experience the actual gameplay yet, I thought I'd make a claim too:

SW:TOR = Massively Multiplayer Mass Effect with lightsabres

The reasons:

- it's the same company that makes the Mass Effect series and SW:TOR, so they'll use the stuff  and mechanics that they found worked well in other games of them.

- they have the spaceship as the playerhouse and base of command, in much the same way as in ME. The devs even stated that it'd be "like Mass Effect".

- Space exploration and travel will work like it was done in Mass Effect.

- Companions are very much the same as they are in ME, with them participating in dialogues, changing their attitude with the decisions you make etc etc

- Extensive use of cover system as seen in ME and ME2

- Quests work the same as in ME, with the dialogue wheel, multiple choices that have meaning, your actions having future consequences, the interrupt system as used in ME2, etc

So there you go, all aspects of SW:TOR that will be very similar to ME.

On top of that, it'll be Massively Multiplayer, with all kinds of quests you can do together with friends and others, there'll be massive planets to explore (even the smallest planet took 0.5-1hr to traverse from one side to the other according to one report), and you'll have space combat.

How cool is that?

And then you still have a lot of features they haven't talked about or shown yet, but of which Bioware designers said they'd add their own unique twist to them.

We still have to wait for open beta to experience all the gameplay elements, but so far already it sounds like it'll be very entertaining. We'll see.

(yeah, I could've gone for 'TOR = KOTOR MMO' comparison too instead. Maybe next time when another mindnumbingly boring 'TOR = WoW clone' blabla troll thread dooms up again)

1st) L2 check the posts before making a pointless new one. There is already a very similar thread here.

2nd) You people must decide at some point. Is TOR going to be a WoW with lightsabers or a ME with lightsabers?

3rd) Where did you get your magic sphere allowing you to see into the future? I want one.

I hope it is ME with lightsabres. I would have much rather have seen a ME MMO as a SW MMO.

WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.

My only response to you and everyone else who thinks this will be some clone with a lightsaber is "Move on, there is nothing to see here."

I mean seriously, if you are that disappointed then go look for another game to be excited about and stop ripping something that you have not even seen or played yet.

Yea ME woulda been a cool one but I doubt they would turn it into an MMO since it's been a cash cow as a single player RPG.

Heh, I see that people didn't get the point I was really trying to make, so I'll be more blunt:

    - I don't think SW:TOR will be a 'WoW clone' or a singleplayer experience with multiplayer features, I do think that SW:TOR will be a themepark MMO with lots of features that make it different from other MMO's - like WoW - and offer its own unique gameplay experience

    - besides what I think, it's way too soon to tell how in the end the gameplay really will be since a lot of the features haven't been revealed in detail yet, nor have we a working beta that we can experience that's close to the final product

    - if some people can so blindly and stubbornly claim that SWTOR is a 'WoW clone' or 'WoW with lightsabres' with so much unknown and not played yet, then I can play fortuneteller too and say that SWTOR will be 'MMME with lightsabres', besides it looks like SW TOR from what has been explained so far has more in common with Mass Effect gameplay mechanics than with WoW mechanics.

So it's not that strange to think that SW:TOR has the potential to be as awesome and immersive as a Mass Effect 1 & 2 was, but added to that all the common polished features that make a great MMO experience like grouping, PvP, crafting, raiding etc. And on top of that cool features like space combat and exploration of the huge planets.

Agree. Mass Effects were the best games since Oblivion and Morrowind.

I really hope it's ME with lightsabres instead of WoW with lightsabres.

I'm pretty sure you can already whip out Shepard's lightsaber in Mass Effect.  I think there was a large Sith uprising in the media over it too.

That doesn't mean the game won't be good, it's just an obvious statement based off of what we've seen. Posts like this are just self righteously retarded.

Hey, enough people are stupid and moronic enough to call every other MMO post-WoW a 'WoW clone' and to call a MMO like SW:TOR, of which a large number of features hasn't been revealed yet and no one  has played the full beta yet to get a feel for all the gameplay, a WoW clone or 'WoW with lightsabres'..

If people are so blind and dogged to call SW:TOR a 'WoW clone' with so little actual info, then it's equally justified to call SW:TOR 'MMME with lightsabres' or 'KOTOR MMO', there's enough material to base those claims on too.

Besides, you have to be really stupid or retarded - or ignorant of ME2 and SW:TOR features - to not see all the features that SW:TOR have in common with ME1 & 2. Nothing that strange in that Bioware decided to reuse a lot of the stuff from the ME series that they thought would work well in a MMO too.

Obviously some people failed to see the humour and irony in the OP's post.

To tell the truth, I've never played the ME series.  But I did play the Kotor games.  If Bioware successfully weave elements from ME into the Kotor lore, and then weave that into a WoW level of quality MMO formula, then they stand a good chance of hitting the mark.  In my opinion.
